Born in Croatia on May 25, 1892 of a native peasant and a Slovene mother.

Kumrovec lies in the Croatian Zagorje and Croatia was still under Austro-Hungarian rule. Broz worked as a mechanic in small workshops. During World War I, he served in the Austro-Hungarian army. He was captured as a prisoner of war and transported to the Russian interior. He joined a Bolshevik group while in prison and after escaping, he joined the Bolshevik Red Guards several months before the October Revolution.

He was registered as a member of the Communist party. Back in Yugoslavia, he continued his revolutionary work as a secretary of a metal union. He was picked up and spent six years in prison. He was released in 1934 and joined the Comintern in Moscow. Visited Moscow several times and was appointed Secretary of Yugoslav Communist Party in 1937. His success was due in part to the internal rivalry of communist leaders. In January 1939, he was officially appointed general secretary of the Yugoslav Communist Party.

After Nazi invasion, set up his Partisans in Southern Serbia in 1941, and led by far the most powerful resistance movement in Europe. By end of the War, Tito’s forces had control of the whole country. Refused to take Stalin’s direction, and was expelled from the Cominform in 1948. Remained leader of the country till his death in 1980.

From then on, Tito had a major voice in all the ensuing phases of the Yugoslav revolution. During World War II, he became commander in chief of the partisan armed forces. In 1943, the Second Session of the Anti-Fascist Council of the National Liberation of Yugoslavia established the second Yugoslavia as a federal socialist republic of six republics. Tito had to make use of all his charisma to convince his comrade-partisans that all peoples of Yugoslavia should be granted equal rights. The partisan struggle ended with a complete victory of the communists. Supported strategically by their allies, both of the West and the East, complying formally with some demands for a multi-party system, Tito could form his first government on March 7, 1945.

More dangerous for Tito’s political career was the clash with the USSR. The Cominform conflict led to a break with Moscow. Tito’s internal power base was threatened as well, and large-scale purges in the party were bitterly needed. Needed also was an alternative ideology. In the beginning of the 1950s self-management was rediscovered in Marx’s writings and step by step introduced in Yugoslavia.

After the fall of hardliner Ranković, economic and political liberalization broke through and this threatened the party monopoly anew. At the same time, on advice of the Slovene Edvard Kardelj, he pushed through constitutional reforms to take the wind out of the sails of nationalism. By granting more autonomy, responsibility and formal self-government to the republics, he hoped to reduce the tensions between the federal units. In the same spirit, he set up a federal presidency structure to ensure the continuity of the system after his death.

In international affairs, Tito profited much from the rivalries of the two blocs during the Cold War. He played a leading role in the movement of the so-called Non-Aligned Countries.

Tito died in May 1980 and the structures set up to ensure continuity functioned more or less satisfactorily for a few years. Then, divergent aspirations could no longer be reconciled and the federal structure exploded.

Current harebrained scheme:

Buying a renewed ipad off Amazon for ~$130 that google is giving a trade-in value of $399 AKA the whole price of a pixel tablet. Total price is ~$160 post tax assuming no issues with the trade-in, or about 60% off! Hoping this can pick up the slack on my aging laptop until I get a job and can afford to replace it

So after a lot of trial and error I managed to get through a few days of playing Skyrim VR without any issues. Good!

Then yesterday Steam dropped a major update to Steam VR, and now it doesn't even start for me anymore agony-deep

edit: okay so you can set SteamVR to use the previous version sweat

Drinking the brine from a pickle jar mixed with whiskey. It's not exactly "good" but it's not exactly bad either

Dark Souls 3 review!

I just beat the soul of cinder. It was kinda by accident, I thought it would take way longer. I wasn't taking it that seriously until I noticed that it was on 25% health in its second form and then locked the fuck in.

Do I like Dark Soils 3? Yeah, I want to play it again now. It's the only Fromsoft game I've played but I want to play all the other ones now.

Did I like Dark Souls 3? Not all the time. I bought it about a year ago and only just finished it because it kept frustrating me. I got stuck on Champion Gundyr for weeks, and the Lothric princes burnt me out on the game for months. It felt really annoying and unfair to die to attacks that I felt like I couldn't have seen coming.

The overworld looks amazing, all the time, especially when you get to look at the sky. The game has such a cool aesthetic. But there were some times (swamp) when I felt like the game was a slog.

For a long time I thought ds3 wasn't for me. I still don't like how the game is so obscure with it's information - I should understand a game's mechanics without having to look on a wiki. I barely looked at the wiki, so I never learned how magic works or what the good weapons are. I also didn't like getting constantly burnt out on a game that I would have definitely enjoyed more if it was easier

So why have I come around on it? Unironically, I think the formula to enjoying ds3 was right in front of me the entire time: git gud. The game feels so good to play in a way that anyone who's played it will understand. The movement and combat has a great sense of feedback and weight, landing a hit is satisfying every time. The game is about learning attack patterns and getting better at timing dodges and attacks and managing stamina, and it feels good to improve at that. No shit. That's the point of the game. But honestly it's come as a revelation to me that I like Dark Souls, so that wasn't obvious to me.

Now I've started journey 2 and I still have all my items and stats? That's an absurd new game+ I don't get it. Are you supposed to just charge through the entire game with your endgame character?

Re: wikis; for better or worse all the souls games have challened the community to experiment, learn, and compile knowledge together. Personally I enjoy it and From games are the only ones I'll pre-order so I can be part of the rush to learn and explore from the first day. I understand why people dislike it, it pulls you out of the expience to have to look on forums and wikis.

I'd suggest giving Sekiro a try next. It's widely regarded as teh best souls game from From. You will be forced to learn parrying!

Ng+ in fromsoft games(with the exception of ds2 (and maybe demon's souls/bb which I've not played)) is just enemies have more health and hit harder, and in ds3 I believe you can find better versions of some rings. It keeps scaling up to ng+7 at which point nothing changes anymore.

Ds2 actually changes up things in interesting ways in ng+ and I'm disappointed they've never revisited that.

What's a funny disease that carnivore diet assholes are especially vulnerable to? I really loathe my roommate's brother and hope there's a comradely parasite that can take my energy.

Proposal: on every anniversary of Hexbear we close the site as a joke which isn't okay and have 3-4 pre voted for subreddits thar become hexbear for that day whether they like it or not. We treat their subreddit exactly like here, maybe tag which comm it would be posted in and don't explain.

Not sure if this is worth it's own post in !drugs, so I'm just posting here. If a mod wants me to delete and post there I will.

talking about weedIdk if it's just the difference in how weed feels when I'm depressed vs not (it's been a while) but D8 sucks ass. Barely any euphoria and harsh as hell on my lungs. I mean the cart's a little sus but still. Tried getting as much in as I could before fucking dying coughing (used to be fine with a normal d9 vape), and it still sucks. Just feel fuzzy headed. D9/bud was like the best feeling in the fucking world. Maybe it's just because I'm not going from such a low but still disappointing. Never felt that way about weed before.

I bought this thing called a K-Safe, which is a plastic safe with a timer on it that doesn't open until the timer is up, to stop me from getting high during the day. I have been setting it for 8PM, but it's 6:30 right now and I really hate want to hit my vape. I need to replace weed with exercise lol.

I wish my dad would understand that sometimes I just don't want to talk to him. I got nothing to say. And he'll be yapping away saying nothing of value and I really don't want to pretend to laugh. I know he just wants to talk to me but I don't want to talk at all sometimes

What's the difference between 'on the principles of political economy and taxation' by David Ricardo and 'principles of political economy' by John Stuart Mill? Capital illustrated mentioned the David one but when searching, the John one seemed to have gotten more traction?
