Love how rebuilding isn't until phase 3 (if it even gets past 1)

Step 2: A permanent end to hostilities

Real "draw the rest of the fucking owl" vibes from this one.

An apartheid state seems pretty hostile to me.

Mr. Biden, welcome to the resistance.

Withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas in Gaza

So the IDF is going to put up a fence around Rafah to turn it into the world's largest cage so they can claim they're adhering to the terms of the proposal?

[–] zed_proclaimer@hexbear.net 33 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Or they will depopulate as much of Gaza as possible to minimize the “populated areas of Gaza” sq. mileage

[–] ReadFanon@hexbear.net 27 points 4 months ago

I mean, they have already done that and it wouldn't be a stretch of the imagination for Israel to argue that Rafah, which is a mere 64 km², is the only populated part of Gaza and thus they're going to help themselves to the rest.

[–] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 7 points 4 months ago

Notice that the specific wording very much leaves it open for Israel to put settlers into the unpopulated parts of Gaza.

Hamas approves!

🟢 Hamas: — In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, views positively the contents of President Joe Biden's speech today, 31/05/2024, in which he called for a permanent ceasefire, the withdrawal of occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, reconstruction, and the exchange of prisoners. We consider this American position and the reinforced conviction on the regional and international stage of the necessity to put an end to the war on Gaza to be the result of the legendary steadfastness of our struggling people and their brave resistance.

The movement reaffirms its readiness to engage positively and constructively with any proposal based on a permanent ceasefire, complete withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, reconstruction, the return of displaced persons to all their homes, and a serious prisoner exchange deal, provided the occupation declares its explicit commitment to this.

The Islamic Resistance Movement - Hamas Friday: 23 Dhul-Qi'dah 1445 AH Corresponding to: 31 May 2024 AD

That's because this proposal is very close to what Hamas has been offering for months. And also why Israel doesn't seem to actually be accepting it.

The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, views positively […] President Joe Biden

Karl Marx, Vladimir Lenin, Vladimir Putin, and now Hamas would vote for Joe Biden, yet tankies think they’re too good for him.

In his speech, Biden said that Israel already agreed to it. If that prune actually pulls off a peace deal I might stop pissing on everyone's Biden Harris signs, at least during daylight hours. That's a joke, obviously. Literally no one near me has Biden Harris signs out

[–] Xx_Aru_xX@hexbear.net 18 points 4 months ago

Problem is that Israel never follows the agreements made, for example the agreement in 2014 promised the opening of an airport in Gaza

Obama chimes in how great genocide joe and tony the butcher are:

[–] Deadend@hexbear.net 32 points 4 months ago

Calling it a tragedy is gross. This is a siege

[–] carpoftruth@hexbear.net 28 points 4 months ago

Damn how did all those Palestinian families get shattered in the subsequent war? Who shattered them Obama, who was it?

[–] PolandIsAStateOfMind@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 4 months ago

Barack "12 wars" Obama have an insight on yet another

[–] pmarcilus@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago)

What Palestinians are experiencing: targeted murder, rape, sent to a concentration camp, live burying, mass murdering, force separation of child and family, tortures

What genocidal Obama is seeing: shattered by war

[–] PoY@lemmygrad.ml 5 points 4 months ago

Palestinians were merely waylaid under buildings while Israelis were catastrophically exhausted by having to protect their own human existence!

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 27 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Some hostages' remains returned, partially, because we are compromising, you see. centrist

[–] regul@hexbear.net 14 points 4 months ago

You want a toe? I can get you a toe.

From the BBC it sounds like hes already rejected it

Netanyahu releases statement A statement has just been released from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office.

It says he has authorised the Israeli negotiating team to "present an outline" for achieving the release of all hostages.

However, the statements goes on to say the war in Gaza will not end until all goals - including the "elimination" of Hamas's armed wing and organisational capacities - are achieved.

itcontinues: "The exact outline proposed by Israel, including the conditional transition from stage to stage, allows Israel to maintain these principles."

[–] CarbonScored@hexbear.net 22 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Sounds like Biden just failed to mention phase 0: Let Israel finish genociding all palestinians

[–] goferking0@lemmy.sdf.org 10 points 4 months ago

But if they do that then they'll have a paper record!

[–] jackmarxist@hexbear.net 26 points 4 months ago

Phase 3 ain't happening like ever with NATO.

And what about the thousands of Palestinians held hostage by Israel since the last few decades?

[–] robinnn@hexbear.net 21 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Can they have some backbone, like "if Israel doesn't agree to these terms we cut weapons sales and funding"?

[–] pmarcilus@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 4 months ago

Pls be considerate, they have a ludicrous business to run there.

[–] Mardoniush@hexbear.net 18 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Is Biden cogent enough to realise the level of political humiliation this is?

Honestly it's getting increasingly weird that no one is acting. The USA being cowards I get, but Israel has just broken it's own treaty and occupied the Egyptian side of the buffer zone. I'm honestly shocked that the arab states have kept restraint.

[–] Amir@lemmy.ml 2 points 3 months ago

The arab states are, ironically with the image created of them by the west, the civilized ones

[–] rando895@lemmygrad.ml 17 points 4 months ago (1 children)

It "gives the protestors what they want", making it sound like the empires idea, and bides time for Israel to recoup, while potentially deflating the movement.

Obviously I want an end, but Israel needs to leave, otherwise it's just a pause in death.

[–] zed_proclaimer@hexbear.net 20 points 4 months ago (1 children)
[–] rando895@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 4 months ago

I meant "leave this plane of existence"

Withdraw of forces from populated areas in Gaza

and

Palestinian civilians can return to their homes in Gaza

Are contradictory statements that are probably going to result in more Palestinians being murdered by Israeli Occupation Forces and being able to say, "We though the areas were not populated."
