This will start a precedent of the office of president being a kind of rubber stamp for influential billionaires and the position will lose all meaning, similar to the Pontifex Maximus in ancient Rome. The liberal party will become openly controlled opposition who will openly flaunt how much of a sham US democracy is. Musk is the sort of glutton for punishment as shown with twitter that if he could he probably would run for president. Unlike say Zuckerberg who dipped his toes and said "you know what? Not for me".
He loves attention and feeling important, and thinks he can just throw toddler's temper tantrum to solve any issue he has. There's no way he would ever turn down the chance to become president.
