Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

In the aftermath of Trump surviving an assassination attempt, many professional opinion-havers are now talking about the scourge of "political violence" that has overtaken, or will soon overtake America, and how we must not let chaos rule. This is, of course, patently absurd. The American government and its allies have been the greatest force of political violence on the planet since the beginning of colonialism, and the foundations of the country are made of corpses. Today, America commits political violence by forcing Ukrainians into the maw of Russian artillery instead of trying to reach a peaceful settlement, which Russia has repeatedly expressed interest in and offered Ukraine relatively favourable terms. They supply Israel with endless weaponry to destroy entire cities and populations, while Biden supporters insist that somehow things could be worse than daily massacres and mass starvation.

In May 1945, French police fired on protestors, causing retaliatory attacks on French settlers, killing about a hundred. In response, the French murdered 45,000 Algerians in a little under two months, in a frenzy of political violence called the Sétif and Guelma massacre. As the massacre was being completed, the International Court of Justice was established. It goes without saying that Algeria never benefited from the ICJ, and the War of Independence from 1954 to 1962 was made inevitable. Over a million Algerians were killed before France could bear the fighting no longer and gave up, and Algeria won itself a state. Comparisons to the ongoing war of independence and genocide in Palestine are obvious.

While the means of colonial violence have evolved over the centuries, the basic structure of it has not. As in Algeria, Vietnam, and Cuba, resistance groups in and around Palestine are fighting for a world with less political violence. The American government would drown every city in the developing world in blood to prevent peace.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful. Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

Full indictment document: https://www.justice.gov/usao-sdny/media/1360711/dl

For example, as described in more detail below, in or about June 2022, TERRY participated in a private, off-the-record group meeting with the U.S. Secretary of State regarding the U.S. Government's policy towards North Korea. Immediately after the meeting, TERRY met her primary ROK NIS point of contact, or "handler," and passed .him detailed handwritten notes Tr~~ " ·? that meeting. Weeks later, at the request of her handler, TERRY hosted a happy hour for Congressional staff under the auspices of the policy institute, or "think tank," where TERRY worked. 1 TERRY's handler attended the happy hour - which was paid for by the ROK NIS - posing as a diplomat, and mingling with Congressional staff without disclosing that he was a ROK intelligence officer.

Fun insight to spy work.

The ROK Government repeatedly rewarded SUE MI TERRY, the defendant, forher services. TERRY's ROK NIS handlers gifted her, among other things, a $2 , 845 Dolce & Gabbana coat, a $2 ,950 Bottega Veneta handbag, and a $3 ,450 Louis Vuitton handbag. They took TERRY to meals at upscale seafood restaurants, sushi restaurants, and multiple restaurants with Michelin stars. They also offered to provide TERRY approximately $37,000, worked with her to devise a plan to mask the true source of those funds, and deposited the funds into an unrestricted "gift" account that TERRY controlled at the think tank where she worked. And ROK Government officials paid TERRY on multiple occasions to write articles in both the U.S. and Korean press conveying ROK Government-provided positions and phrases.

Fun insight into how cheap these spies are.

Joe Biden diagnosed with Covid-19 and cancels speech in Las Vegas

US President Joe Biden was diagnosed with Covid-19 on Wednesday (17). A speech scheduled for an event in Las Vegas was canceled. The White House said that the Democrat will remain in isolation.

Earlier, in an interview broadcast by BET News, the president said he would consider abandoning his bid for re-election if his doctors indicated that a health condition was developing.

AOC is such a fucking little worm. The GOP is going to sue if the Democrats don't nominate Biden?! Their is no official party nominee until the convention, and the courts have repeatedly ruled that the parties get to decide their nominee however they want. The primaries aren't fucking binding, otherwise Adlai Stevenson wouldn't have been the party nominee in 1952.

Sometimes I’ll get some angry Reddit liberal talking shit at me. I decide to respond based on their posting history. I don’t bother If they’ve done nothing but obsess over NATO and “lefties” with a series of 30 posts in the last couple of hours. It shows they have no interest in a conversation.

I know straight white men are the stereotypical Reddit posters but I’ve found most of my more aggressive stalkers have been queer liberals, ex-Muslims, and bougie libs from the global south.

Just saw some post on reddit saying stuff like this:

"You do not have the privilege of getting the exact person you want in office. Accept this fact, and help us get CLOSER to where we CAN, because I can guarantee you we won’t get what we want under Trump."

Whoever the Democratic party pick as their presidential nominee, you HAVE to vote for. If it’s Joe Biden, you HAVE to vote for him. if it’s someone else, good, but you have to vote for them!!!

If we split the democratic voter base, we will lose 2024 like we lost 2016 when we joked about Hillary, and thus we WILL be killing many American women, trans, gays people!!!

Even if Biden gets nominated, elected, and is then deemed unfit to hold office, Kamala will take over

Think not about what could happen if Biden gets reelected, think about what will happen if Trump is allowed to take control of the country. People will be killed, and it will be your fault if you helped make it happen.

???

But, I thought Biden was the only one capable of defeating Trump and anyone who disagreed was a secret Republican who wanted Trump to win?

Well, don't worry, Biden supporters. I've taken your arguments to heart, and you can rest assured that I'll write in Biden this fall, no matter who the Democrats decide to run. It's the only way to defeat Trump.

Trump and his speeches aren’t exactly going to win over non-voters, but this could be a Hillary case where the hate for Biden is so strong that it overrides dislike of Trump.

Hate to say it but immigration and trans children are on the minds of on-the-fence voters. Hear it all the time when I’m up there, again using my time in Upstate New York as an example. People don’t exactly want trans people dead but they get disgusted at the thought of children knowing about them or having them compete in sports.

Immigration is also something more people have on their mind than they want to admit. I’m not completely in the camp of an inevitable Trump victory, but I do think he still has a very solid shot.

At the same time, Trump lacks a little of the bite he had in 2016 and his speeches aren’t nearly as populist as before. I remember talking to people who thought trump would be anti-war and push for universal healthcare.

There’s a good shot Trump pulls a Rutherford B. Hayes and ends up winning based on some technicalities. People really underestimate just how bloodthirsty Americans can be outside of liberal cities.

I'm even more confident than I was previously that the Democrats force Biden out of the race before the convention. It would be a terrible look for everyone to "gang up on him" and force him out through a contested election. They're going to have his family sit him down with some ice cream and convince him he needs to drop out.

There will be tearful stories and a lot of sympathy pandering all the way up until November.

Grim days for the Democrats, just made me realize how much they missed Neera Tanden - their shitposter in chief. She hasn't shitposted as hard since her shitposts tanked her nomination for the first real job she could've had in 20 years. Say what you want about her, she has a bite and venom that is lacking with the current Biden campaign.

Senior North Korean diplomat defects to South

high-profile North Korean diplomat stationed in Cuba has defected to the South, Seoul's spy agency has confirmed to the BBC.

South Korean media reports say that the defector was a counsellor responsible for political affairs at the North Korean embassy in Cuba

His work reportedly involved stopping Havana from forging official diplomatic ties with Seoul. However, in February, the two governments did establish official relations, in what was seen as a setback for Pyongyang.

New sixty million years old demon candidate for president with dementia just dropped:

FRANCE 24: Alberto Fujimori, former Peruvian leader, to run for presidency in 2026, daughter says

Fighting ongoing health issues and a checkered past, former president Alberto Fujimori will run for office in Peru's 2026 elections, his daughter said Sunday. Fujimori has three convictions on corruption charges and owes about $15 million to the Treasury, according to the Attorney General.

Former President Alberto Fujimori, who was pardoned in December from his convictions for corruption and responsibility for the murder of 25 people, plans to run for Peru's presidency for the fourth time in 2026, his eldest daughter said Sunday. “My father and I have talked and decided together that he will be the presidential candidate,” Keiko Fujimori, leader of the right-wing Fuerza Popular party, said on social networks.

Despite the announcement, Peruvian law says anyone found guilty of acts of corruption cannot run for the office of president or vice president.

(Not that this ever matters lmao)

Fujimori, who was convicted in 2009 of involvement in the killing of 25 Peruvians during his administration in 1992, has three convictions on corruption charges and owes about $15 million to the Treasury, according to the Attorney General’s Office specializing in corruption crimes. The former president was extradited from Chile in 2007 and was in a Peruvian prison until last December.

Fujimori, 85, joined his daughter's party in June, posting a video of the event in which he is seen with Keiko Fujimori along with the phrase: “The founding leader of Fujimorism takes his place in Fuerza Popular.”

Keiko Fujimori, 49, has herself run for president three times unsuccessfully. On July 1, a trial began against her on allegations of money laundering for which the prosecution is seeking a sentence of 30 years in prison.

Alberto Fujimori, who governed with an increasingly authoritarian hand in 1990-2000, has begun to rebuild his image on social networks since being released from prison in December under a 2017 presidential pardon that was revived by Peru's Constitutional Court.

Fujimori reported in May that he had been diagnosed with a new tumor on his tongue that was considered malignant. In July, he underwent hip replacement surgery after a fall, his daughter said.

We in South America are trapped in a perpetual nightmare we can't seem to wake up from.
