Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Image is of a colectivo: an armed group, usually operating in impoverished areas, which act to support and defend the socialist government of Venezuela. They are often derided as vigilante terrorist groups which prop up the government, because cops are only bad when they are socialist and not murdering minorities, I suppose.

Maduro's party, the PSUV, has won the election after a staggering amount of propaganda by the opposition, who said their polls suggested they were going to win and that Maduro's loss was inevitable. The reaction across Latin America is what one would expect. Left-leaning leaders are generally respecting the results and congratulating Maduro, while those on the right and/or are US puppets (such as in semirecently-couped Peru) are calling for recounts, or even that the election was illegitimate. The US itself is also unhappy about the results. We shall soon see if their unhappiness boils over into yet another coup attempt.

Personally, I think they should have ran Guaido again.

guaido-despair guaido

Thank you to @Redcuban1959@hexbear.net for the election coverage here, and everything else they do in the news megathread.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.
More telegram channels here for those interested.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful. Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/aleksandr_skif ~ DPR's former Defense Minister and Colonel in the DPR's forces. Russian language.
https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.
https://discord.gg/projectowl ~ Pro-Ukrainian OSINT Discord.
https://t.me/ice_inii ~ Alleged Ukrainian account with a rather cynical take on the entire thing.

That didn't take long. The most hawkish imperialists in Congress will push for a resolution "recognizing" opposition candidate Edmundo González as "president-elect" (who recognizes posts like that?) and calling for new sanctions. Guaidó 2.0 ladies and gentlemen

Leaked draft of U.S. Reps Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) & Mario Díaz-Balart (R) House resolution to recognize Edmundo González "as the president-elect of Venezuela" and to call for the "imposition of new sanctions" on the Venezuelan gov't and its foreign allies.

I think it's happening tonight folks. All flights in and out of Ben Gurion canceled, airspace is closed over all of Israel, shelters are open, Iranian media buzzing about us "witnessing interesting things" over the next few hours. We'll see, but I've a feeling it's tonight.

EyupLovely pinpoints an itch I’ve had the last week - Kamala is a speed run of Starmerism:

The Americans are speedrunning 2020-23 Starmerism with the coconut tree lady. Same smugness, same guilt tripping about the danger of the alternative, same certainty, same denialism of everything they did as a prosecutor, same height. They don’t know it, but they are doing it.

US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, said in a note released this evening, that after consulting several US allies, including those who adopted different positions, none came to the conclusion that Nicolas Maduro won the elections.

He concluded by saying that "it is clear to the United States" that Edmundo Gonzalez, candidate on the unitary platform, won the elections.

But the Iranian response didn't take place until April 13

This is a pretty funny article on grayzone about trouble with new hires at the NED. On the one hand, critical support for any of these nitwits who join NED without understanding the purpose of the organization (doing coups and regime changes) and then being a wrench in the works out of sheer incompetence. On the other hand, I can think of no more liberal gesture than shredding an Israel flag while being employed as a senior member of the NGO-imperial complex.

This assassination, why now?

They've had a long fucking time to do this and they've not done it. What caused the decision to tip over to "we need to do this now before x happens" ?

Speculation: Was it the coming together of Palestinian groups and the agreement made in Beijing?

Kamala Harris Claims She’s Tougher Than Donald Trump on Border Policies

Vice President Kamala Harris: “Our administration worked on the most significant border security bill in decades. Some of the most conservative Republicans in Washington, D.C., supported the bill. Even the Border Patrol endorsed it. It was all set to pass, but at the last minute, Trump directed his allies in the Senate to vote it down.”

Supporters: “Boo!”

Vice President Kamala Harris: “Right.”

For the second time this year, the Royal Moroccan Navy will conduct several military exercises along the coast of Western Sahara, approximately 125 kilometres from the Canary Islands.

These exercises will begin in September and end at the end of December. During the hours in which these exercises are taking place, no fishing vessels will be allowed to fish in the area.

The part about fishing being banned is important to remember, because fishing is one of the most important food source for Sahrawis

@peoplesforumnyc on twitter:

BREAKING! Tonight, the U.S. State Department released a statement announcing—in contradiction to the official Venezuelan election results—the far-right opposition candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia, as the winner of the Presidential election. This inappropriate and blatant meddling in the democratic electoral process of Venezuela is part of the U.S. government’s playbook for destabilizing and intervening in other countries for their own interests.

We saw a similar plot unfold in 2019 when the U.S. recognized “self-declared” Juan Guaidó as President of Venezuela. The U.S. has no place to determine or “verify” the election results of another country’s sovereign democratic elections.

Especially during the Trump presidency, the U.S. imposed hundreds of economic sanctions and coercive measures on Venezuela that were deliberately designed to create economic suffering, hunger, social instability and emigration. As the economic noose was tightened, hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans fled the country in an effort to find relief from this economic reality. Economic sanctions are a diabolical warfare that impose suffering and death on the population as a form of collective punishment by the United States and its principle allies in NATO. This policy has been imposed on Venezuela, Cuba, Iran, and other countries in the global south that have tried to chart an independent path.

The people of the world won’t stand for U.S. imperialism’s attempts to defy the democratic mandate of the Venezuelan people. Hands Off Venezuela!

Hungary blocks the EU from releasing a joint pro-coup statement on Venezuela. Only statement will be from the unelected commissioners, judging someone's elections.

Hungary’s veto underlines a fundamental flaw in EU foreign policy whereby decisions — including potential future sanctions on Venezuela — must be unanimously agreed among the bloc’s 27 member countries. This has led several countries, such as Germany, to advocate taking foreign policy decisions by a qualified majority. The Hungarian government couldn’t be immediately reached for a comment on the motivation for its veto.

Some people are saying this is fake news, but besides one newspaper, no other said it was fake.

The propaganda on Venezuela is mind-numbing. A media outlet in Spain invited on ex COUP LEADER and Venezuelan Dictator Pedro Carmona to accuse Maduro of "mega fraud" (with no evidence). Carmona was DICTATOR of Venezuela for 2 days in April 2002, after a US-backed COUP against elected President Chávez.

The Western media is literally inviting on dictators who briefly overthrew Venezuela's democratically elected government in a US-backed coup to accuse elected President Maduro of "fraud". There are absolutely zero standards for media coverage of Venezuela. It is dumpster fire.

US-backed coup leader Pedro Carmona was the wealthy president of Venezuela's corporate lobby group. He met with Bush admin officials a few days before a US-backed coup briefly overthrew elected President Chávez and installed Carmona as unelected dictator.

Portuguese communist party put out a statement congratulating Maduro and denouncing attempts to overthrow the election, followed by the expected outrage and indignation of the professional media class (in debates and tv media where the party is not invited to) and the twitter ultra-left. So "what about vuvuzela, you support maduro dictator" is back as the main anti communist party talking point for now, beating out "skava ukraini you support putin".

There's always this same type of indignation from the soft-left and center as if THIS is the time the communists will drop our support for peace and non-aggression and adopt whatever narrative NATO wants us to, like the other left groups in this country do.

Maybe people will have forgotten all this by the time the party's Onward summer festival rolls around in september 6/7/8 and the PSUV sends a delegation with venezuelan goodies and stuff (last year I got a chavez poster), it's a fun time to be here if anyone wants to visit portugal btw.

In case you hear bullshit fearmongering about Russian and Chinese bombers off the coast of Alaska

This stuff is normal. We do it too. When I wa a in the Navy crossing the Pacific the pilots would intercept each other all the time. It was normal operations and patrols. They would scramble jets. The jets would Intercept, smile and wave and then turn away. Buisness casual.

Things like this only get published when the empire wants to manufacture a threat that isn't there or sell more weapons.

24 States Have Implemented More Restrictive Voting Policies Since 2020

The wave of anti-voting laws over the past four years disproportionately affected Black voters and voters in the South and Midwest. According to the data, at least 65% of Black voters now live in a state that has implemented at least one restrictive voting law. Altogether, 57% of eligible voters live in a state with more restrictions on casting a ballot than they faced four years ago.

Israeli police in conflict with the IOF and right-wing protestors

CW: SA
The Israel government has finally decided to do the bare minimum and interrogate soldiers suspected of commiting a wide variety of sex crimes on Palestinian hostages. The IOF and many right wingers are outraged at this, not disputing that it happened but enraged at the idea of the soldiers facing any punishment. This has escalated to protestors storming and then wandering around the military base where the Palestinians are being held, kind of a mini Jan 6th. No arrests have been made.
