Breadtube if it didn't suck.

Post videos you genuinely enjoy and want to share, duh. Celebrate the diversity of interests shared by chapochatters by posting a deep dive into Venetian kelp farming, I dunno. Also media criticism, bite-sized versions of left-wing theory, all the stuff you expected. But I am curious about that kelp farming thing now that you mentioned it.

Low effort / spam videos might be removed, especially weeb content.

There is a cytube that you can paste videos into and watch with whoever happens to be around. It's open submission unless there's something important to commandeer it with at the time.

A weekly watch party happens every Saturday (Sunday down under), with video nominations Saturday-Monday, voting Monday-Thursday. See the pin for whatever stage it's currently in.

It's just endlessly incredible that people can look at shit like this

and be like no, it's totally normal, his videos are like, charity.

CMON, YOU GOTTA GO WITH YOUR GUT A LITTLE FUCKIN MORE THAN THAT

My favorite part about his videos is that every 5 minutes, the thumbnail seems to change. They SEO the shit out of the thumbnails, it is insane. I don't know if there is a way to see every thumbnail used on a YouTube video without actively pulling it every few minutes and saving a copy, but I know his thumbnails are constantly changing. This was one of the alternates on that video:

This is the current thumbnail for the followup video he made:

They're all so unhinged.

Idk how people see this stuff and their skin doesn't want to crawl, let alone click on it

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 24 points 3 months ago

Because the people who watch them are like 9-year-olds. They have no concept of reality yet. According to him, his metrics are all fucked because 90% of the time kids are watching him on their parents' YouTube accounts.

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 24 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Turbo lib science channel Veritasium did a video about changing images and titles to do SEO and they demonstrated pretty clearly that it works and that every YouTuber should definitely do it. So I'm not surprised that Mr. Beast does...most of the top YouTubers almost definitely do

[–] MalarchoBidenism@hexbear.net 15 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Didn't he interview MrBeast on that video? I recall him showing rows of thumbnails with the same fake forced smile in every one and being like "we found that videos with this face performed better in the metrics"

i-get-it a-guy

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago

You know I think he did actually

[–] alexandra_kollontai@hexbear.net 11 points 3 months ago

At one point he tested open mouth soyface vs closed mouth uncomfortable smile and found that a toothy grin drew 0.5% more clicks, leading him to update the thumbnail of EVERY VIDEO to a toothy grin

[–] BountifulEggnog@hexbear.net 10 points 3 months ago

YouTube makes it very easy to replace titles and thumbnails, there's even a tool that let's you test multiple different ones at the same time and pick what's doing the best.

I think Mr beast actually put out a tool that let's you see all the changed thumbnails/titles videos have had.

Stock tears . png harold-manic

[–] SoloboiNanook@hexbear.net 23 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Good fucking god lol horrific.

That thumbnail is a nightmare but honestly I would probably have like....half the reaction that I have seeing him around if it wasn't for that bizarre uncanny valley smile. Shit freaks me out

[–] SerLava@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Yeah it's a tooth bare, not a smile, his eyes should be thinning but that would make the eye smaller and less noticeable which would be bad youtube SEO, so you get this fucking corpse smile

[–] StreetCash@lemm.ee 12 points 3 months ago (2 children)

The intended audience is kids and teenagers which dont know any better. Clickbait is all they've known too, probably never saw the version of youtube or the web without

[–] SerLava@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago

Yeah I get why kids would just not have the media literacy, I'm more annoyed that older, more intelligent people have suppressed the instinct they ALL had because they saw a few people online just saying it's legit and fine.

[–] ComRed2@hexbear.net 53 points 3 months ago (2 children)

How long, you think, until he starts leaning into the right wing grift because of all these recent revelations?

[–] KimJongGoku@hexbear.net 40 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (2 children)

I asked 20000 people to stay in the ~~circle~~ Square Garden

[–] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I have to actually educate people on the Night at the Garden.

Like they don't teach how America had a viable actual Nazi party and it was a thing here. They just didn't think it was possible. Not only could it happen here - it did. Now we export that and arm them overseas and put them in head positions of corporations and major political instiutions.

Only a few weeks out from now, undoubtedly. He'll somehow have Jordan Peterson participate in one of his dumb stunts

[–] EnsignRedshirt@hexbear.net 42 points 3 months ago (1 children)

This is an incredibly compelling video. The allegations alone are wild, but the video itself is also well-crafted. This level of earnestness, both in the interview and in the presentation of said interview, is rare on YouTube. Here's hoping we see MrBeast get crushed by all this, he seems like a lizard person.

[–] velox_vulnus@lemmy.ml 21 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Apparently, Jake the Transphobe also has a pedo brother-in-law that he tried to hide. His nickname is "Delaware". Ever wonder why they call him that?

[–] EnsignRedshirt@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago

That part was bonkers. And yet, all of it sounds entirely plausible. Freaks like MrBeast who seem wholly dedicated to embody the YouTube algorithm for money wouldn't bat an eye at sheltering sex predators.

"WE PUT JIMMY IN THE DEEP SEBERIAN THUNDRA!"

camera boom pans out to bird sperpective

"HE HAVE EVRYHTING HE NEEDS!"

pands along compressed meal survival rations, watertank and a stack of theory books

"IF HE WANT TO SURIVEVE HE*LL NEED TO FIND FULE TO FIGTH OFF THE COLD!"

shot of tiny little wood stove in the drafty barracks and an axe

"HE'LL GET $10 FOR EVRY DAY HE SURVIVES!

holds up ten one-dollar bills for camera while soyfacing

"IF HE TRIES TO FLEE, THIS SCHOCK COLOR WILL DELIVER 10'000v!"

jimmy get's pushed out from a van that quickly drives off

"THIS IS ... THE 100 YEAR GULAG CHALLANGE!"

[–] sweatersocialist@hexbear.net 21 points 3 months ago (1 children)

this one sounds hard, he might have to go beast mode to finish it (going beast mode is when you don't pay your workers and then message a minor)

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 6 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Wait what's up, there's a minor with this guy too?

[–] booty@hexbear.net 18 points 3 months ago

I like the implication that he can give up on the challenge any time. But the alternative is worse...

[–] FanonFan@hexbear.net 5 points 3 months ago

Tbh I'd hella do that just to take a break from everything and force myself to read more theory

Plz make it $100 a day tho

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 21 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Aw sick, people are still doing (good) contentcop knockoffs? This is a very specific type of youtubedrama I love.

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 12 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I'm a little sus of dudes directly referencing Content Cop in their own content. That shit attracted a lot of unhinged baby right-wing chuds who ended up politically aligned with Sam Hyde.

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 12 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I know it's a low bar, but this guy genders Ava Kris Tyson correctly in the videos, unlike some other people covering the drama. Part of the vid covers a wage gap issue with a Black crew member. I think he's probably a good kid.

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, I get the impression he's trying to mean well here. My statement was more of a general suspicion around idubz fans.

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 7 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

It's a suspicion shared by idubbbz too lol. I'm still suspicious of him though, he reeks of turbo-lib douchebag-surfer California CEO energy

[–] milk_thief@hexbear.net 3 points 3 months ago

I am not so sure, after all the guy interviewed is shown crying and it felt like milking his torture for drama. Otoh, the videos arent monetized and the channel is just for those. No idea where to put him - just offering my observation here and definitely it's good that somebody did these videos, whatever else I may think

[–] Egon@hexbear.net 9 points 3 months ago

Yeah me too, but this seems fine
