Fun fact: Reddit's main sub for Questionable Content is actually a sub for hating on Questionable Content.

God, don't even get me started. There are people on there who genuinely think that dating a trans woman means that Marten is bi.

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 17 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Keep yourself in a perfect bubble, but the actual majority if people (not the smaller more niche demographic on a place here like Lemmy) would consider any guy dating a Trans female to be gay or bi.

Your response makes it look like you think that isn't true. If you actually believe that, you're keeping yourself in a little bubble/echo chamber of the world, but you are in the minority, not the majority.

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 32 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Transwomen are women. Just because you're closed minded doesn't make you right or anyone else of your anecdotal "majority". If you're a man and you're attracted to women, that makes you straight. Full stop.

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 1 year ago (2 children)

They can feel act and behave like women all they want and that's fine, but if physically you were a man and needed several parts of your body surgically and chemically changed then you're floating in a gray area on how men think about that when it comes to dating. If you aren't able to see that then you're every bit as closed minded as any of the men who would have an issue with that. Full stop.

A straight dude can be squeamish about dating a transwoman, that's something different. Not everyone wants dick, I get that. But a straight dude dating a transwoman doesn't somehow make him not straight. Marten is attracted to women, and is dating one. Nothing about this indicates he's bi. What is there not to get here?

[–] wupasscat@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 1 year ago

Just because you don't think trans women are women doesn't mean every guy thinks the same. Stop projecting.

[–] Kepabar@startrek.website 6 points 1 year ago

Depends on the state of transition.

If fully transitioned then no I wouldn't consider them bi.

If not though, then yes they are bi to some extent

[–] Sharkwellington@lemmy.one 4 points 1 year ago

Dude, this is blahaj. Maybe you should do everybody a favor and block the instance.

Imagine expending any effort on hating a wholesome slice of life comic. Then imagine being a mod for a forum about that.

[–] JakenVeina@lemm.ee 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

That doesn't seem terribly fun.

[–] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 14 points 1 year ago

It's a fact that reinforces how much more fun being here is, though 🤷

[–] V17@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

I just looked through there and those alternate comics that they make are hilarious.

[–] 4am@lemm.ee 17 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Isn’t that exactly what it means?

[–] yozul@beehaw.org 12 points 1 year ago

No. It means reapplying makeup. I guess facial powders aren't as popular as they used to be, but that is where the saying came from.

[–] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 4 points 1 year ago

Depends on context, I guess 🤷

[–] lyam23@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I'm pretty sure it originated in the mid twentieth century and referred to touching up makeup.

[–] DeadWorld@lemm.ee 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Its been ages seince we got Brun. We need more of her and her harpoon

[–] ColeSloth@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I used to read the hell out of QC, but I really thought they went off the rails like 8 (ish) years ago and lost interest. I'm surprised it's still going. Is it still good at all?

I felt the same way, like the characters lost their individuality and original motivations and just do whatever the author needs for his story

[–] cnnrduncan@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago

Not really tbh. If anything, it's gradually getting worse. Still gonna keep reading it though, I'm in too deep at this point!

[–] Ashen44@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

It's my gay comfort food. I don't take it seriously or worry about the story, I just enjoy each new strip every morning, and I think it's a really good comic for that

[–] AnthropomorphicCat@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Dang, some years ago I read Questionable Content in its entirety. I stopped reading when Faye started dating Bubbles, because the page was blocked where I work. I want to read it again out of curiosity, but knowing that I need to read thousands of days just to catch up dampens my enthusiasm.

[–] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yeah, it's very intimidating when you think about it in that way (I know from having been in the exact same situation as you are now), but once you get past that hurdle and just enjoy the comics for themselves, it's no big deal heh.

If you want to start again, I took the liberty of going through the fandom timeline and finding the approximate comic you were at 😁

[–] AnthropomorphicCat@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Thank you!

Also, oh gods, I'm two thousand days behind ._.

[–] Blyfh@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Just read 5 a day! You'll eventually catch up and there's no hurry.

[–] HonoraryMancunian@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

Well it definitely means that in some circles

[–] DoucheBagMcSwag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Jesus Christ I started reading this in high school…are we past just Martin, Faye and Pintsize??

[–] Signtist@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

They've got so many characters now that it's impossible to keep track of them all. Still a fun read, though. I check back every week or so.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I always assumed "Powder my Nose" was girl for "I need to take a massive shit."

[–] VikingHippie@lemmy.wtf 3 points 1 year ago

Probably often is lol
