There's definitely that too, but here I think it's more about the value judgement. "Ukraine should have negotiated a surrender at the start from a position of relative strength? What, are you a Putinist? Do you want every Ukrainian to DIE?" goes to "Yeah, maybe fighting to the last Ukrainian in a war we never could have won wasn't the best thing from a humanitarian standpoint."
