I'm throwing in for /c/slop or /c/the_trough for replacing dredge_tank
Locking these comms was a mistake, and trying to ban "low effort" posts will kill the site long term. We're a shitposting social media site descended from a shitposting subreddit. Shitposting is part of our culture--a big part. If you ban low-effort posts, you're not going to get more effort posts--you're just going to get fewer posts. A lot of people come here in part because they can post some essay or take by an esteemed Elder Statesman or Media Thinker and say "look at this dumb shit." Not only is that important to site culture and participation itself, lots of deeper engagement comes along with that activity.
Reopen dredge, and change the name of the other one.
The wording of the announcement has been changed several times. I don't think it specifically mentions low effort posting now but it wasn't very clear before it was edited and it isn't very clear now.
There hasn't been any real explanation of what the problem was that merited this change. Afaik only one Dunk tank mod commented on the reasoning and their comment was patronizing, unhelpful, and suggested more of a disconnect between the mod team and the users than an actual problem.
If that's not the reason, then I'm totally puzzled by what the argument even is. I'm all for changing the name, but if we're not worried about post quality, why exactly are we closing the comms?

So little followup about the reasoning for the removal and so on. Not trying to stir up a shitstorm, but I am personally still a little bit confused about the reasoning and so on. One of the users that were dismissive and hostile about the concerns of closing down the two coms, turned out to be a moderator of the dunk tank. I guess I should have thought to check beforehand, but I'm lazy like that. Anyway his comments in the thread and his attitude about the dunk tank and his vibe towards those that liked it gives me a bit of a better idea of what the whole line of thought was for shutting down the comms
Very cool to have someone mod a community they don't like, fantastic
I also like that the solution was to shut down the comm entirely rather than seeking new mods that actually like the content of the comm
I think it gives a hell a lot of context to the Stack Overflow-esque application of Rule 8, if nothing else
I really don't get it
I honestly don't mind the dunk tank rename, we will rise again.
I will say I think the conceptual idea in separating dunk/dredge makes sense in terms of punching up vs sideways (i.e. posts from David Brooks vs ransoms from the Internet), but I also never minded the conflation so 
What if we made a rule that says the have to be labelled as either uppercut or haymaker, then we totally ignored that rule and got all our posts removed like I do whenever main is unlocked?>

I honestly thought UlyssesT made the Dredge tank just for Drej jokes. I forget that we have sidebars all the time and didn't realize it had different rules.
Nah he just had a compulsive urge to drive certain emotes/gifs into the ground and then keep beating that horse months after it's dessicated remains were ground to dust.
