Interesting, given he has such a large fan base...It would bring Linux to the forefront. His honest reply about the state of Linux Gaming might sway some of his audience to experiment with Linux.

Before commenting, I did check and saw that he cleaned up his act after that white supremacist shit he was peddling. So that's good, having positive role models for young people only makes the world better.

His honest reply about the state of Linux Gaming

I'm betting it's far from anything 'honest.' Stir up a little controversy (even if it's as stupid as linux/windows fanbois arguing in the comments), get more clicks and rewards for 'engagement' from the algorithm.

Maybe he is happy with linux as a system, but I bet this was thought over before it was posted.

There's always that element too, but he seems to be in a post growth stage in his YouTube presence. He hasn't been as aggressive about growing...However, old habits are hard to banish, which means there is a chance this could be a calculated move designed to farm his audience and others for engagement in the algorithm. It could simply be born out of his own satisfaction with the Linux distro he's currently using. Since he didn't go into great detail, his motivation is up in the air. It seems to come from a genuine place, but that doesn't mean the comment does originate from a genuine place. I suppose that I merely hope it stems from his honest opinion, only time will tell.

PewDiePie isn't my first choice for role model, but I don't really have a say in that. So yeah, I'm happy when a public figure challenges their assumptions and tries something new.

Good on them, I hope it encourages curiosity in young kids.

[–] LostWanderer@lemmynsfw.com 5 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I do too, I hope he can make a lot of people curious, not just children! Yeah, it helps others challenge their own assumptions and trying something new when a public figure tries (fails a bit on the way, but ultimately succeeds). Doing something new will mean you stumble a bit here and there, the fact he didn't hesitate looking things up during the process is a good reminder to constantly ask questions and find answers.

Role Models aren't chosen, they just end up resonating with people and helping shape positive changes within others...He has a lot of people who resonate with him and are inspired by him. The fact that he considered his ideas before going deep into the racist pipeline and turned it around makes him a good role model in my opinion. He took a break from YouTube, reflected on his choices, and came back after making a decision to shows others there is a better way to handle controversy. He didn't double down, sink deeper into the cesspool of racist ideology, he resurfaced as a better person instead. That says a lot about his character, it makes him a positive influence. All people stumble along the road of life, but that doesn't mean you have to fall to a level that some exist on; you can become an elevated person instead.

Exactly.

I'm not going to start watching him, but I'll give credit where credit is due.

[–] LostWanderer@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 1 hour ago

Jolly good, I'm only giving him props too...I don't plan on watching his videos though.

Just a reminder for people here: People can change and do better.

A lot of his old content are basically edgy, toxic, and too much. He basically did racist joke towards various groups of people, just for the sake of anger them. Even a lot of his fans also often recognizing those mistake and asked him to do better.

He's now a husband and a father. He's not doing any these joke anymore. He already recognizing his past mistake and do much better these days.

All of his content is now simple wholesome and even inspiring. His several drawing content is actually often being shared among art community.

Let's celebrate when people recognize their mistake and doing things better!

EDIT: I recommend to watch his video: I Drew Every Day for 100 DAYS! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJDtQTTAogk which highly regarding on art community for its art journey. Even a lot of illustrator, both professional and hobbyist started reacting to it.

He is and has always been one of the most wholesome personalities in yt gaming. Man said a slur one time in 15 years. the overzealous puritanicalism that got him cancelled is why we have trump in the oval office.

[–] Cethin@lemmy.zip 2 points 32 minutes ago

I'm happy he's doing better, but I feel no need or desire to celebrate him. Many more deserving people have changed or never done wrong and have no platform, recognition, or wealth. He'll be fine whether he gets money out of my views or not.

Are you saying the nazi pipeline is dead?

[–] nasi_goreng@lemmy.zip 7 points 3 hours ago (4 children)

He was never a nazi in the first place. His basically a classic trait of toxic gamer, making a racist remarks towards everyone.

Back when he did Hitler joke stuff, he instantly got backlash from his own community. He recognized the mistake and stopped doing it again.

I can assure you, these people are often doing it for banter or just for edginess. Never actually hates people.

I'm from SEA region, and people in SEA online gaming community did this all the time. Mocking each other ethnic groups or nationalities, while not actually hating each other, except for small minorities of course. Making Hitler joke, N-word, and other local edgy jokes.

Not saying this is a good thing.

Again, even his fans constantly asking him to do better all the time. And he's now a better person.

I recommend to check his video about 100 days art journey: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJDtQTTAogk It's one of high-regarding art journey video that even contantly get shared and reacted among art community.

Isn't he the one who dropped n bombs on camera?

[–] steeznson@lemmy.world 6 points 1 hour ago

Ah but you see those were merely "gamer moments"

[–] nasi_goreng@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 hour ago

He did. But as far as I know, he never said again in any video in the last five years (or even more, 6-7 maybe?).

[–] midimalist@lemdro.id 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

What kind of nasgor do you like?

[–] nasi_goreng@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago

Nasgor kecap from overnight rice made by my mom. Simply with rice, garlic, fresh chili, and butter instead of cooking oil.

I always add shredded carrot more texture.

[–] theacharnian@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 hours ago (2 children)

Where's the video where he acknowledges the harm he did and he pledges to take concrete action to undo it? Has he actually even apologized?

[–] kilgore_trout@feddit.it -2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

He never did any harm through public online videos.

Ghost might be better for you, as it's aimed to be a more complete distro with an installer and desktop environment.

I mean, you computer's wifi still won't work, but at least you'll have a nice UI to show you all the ways it does not work.

[–] vikingtons@lemmy.world 22 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

But how will he say gamer words whilst playing pubg?

bellend

[–] Yerbouti@sh.itjust.works 11 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Will he switch to not being a racist loser too?
