I know Game of Thrones got a ton of hate after a while, but I loved the intros. They were unique to the setting where the episodes were going to take place.

The worst intros are the long ones that never change, but are on every episode.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 9 points 1 month ago

The series went to shit, but the intros got me hooked from the very beginning (like, holy hell, what is this?) and I never skipped a single one, even at the end when I was pretty much done with it all.

Also, remember the single episode that just started with the Hound? That was a trip, when you expect the music and map.

[–] Whitebrow@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They evolved to show the status of the elements on the map as events unfolded, it was honestly a really good subtle recap of major happenings up to that point in the story

And helping people understand westeros. The geography was such an important part of the story, it was a great way to show a map without being boring.

I loved Game of Thrones and Westworld. The music was bangin’ and the visuals were just amazing.

[–] BigBananaDealer@lemm.ee 1 points 1 month ago

not sure why it got so much hate, i was expecting s8 to be terrible and it wasnt 😂

[–] jonesey71@lemmus.org 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I find the Peacemaker intro quite catchy.

I know it is a spoof but even though I hate it I will watch Too Many Cooks all the way through when it pops up.

[–] Kyle@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 month ago

Too many cooks is the best wrong answer. Must resisted watching this again.

Sealab 2021. It's been 20 years and it's still stuck in my head

[–] The_Che_Banana@beehaw.org 3 points 1 month ago

Sealab intro was amazing

[–] InverseParallax@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Storm warning.

[–] miss_demeanour@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 1 month ago

The Wire - same song, different take (Tom Waits, no less)

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 14 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Lots of bests, but here's some I didn't see.

The Expanse.

Babylon 5, especially season 3(?) change with "It failed."

Old school original Battlestar Galactica.

Knightrider and Airwolf.

Worst? If you can't remember them, they must be bad.

[–] undeffeined@lemmy.ml 7 points 1 month ago

The Expanse intro was so good

[–] the_crotch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

especially season 3(?) change with "It failed."

I just watched Babylon 5 for the first time last year, and that part of the intro got an actual spoken "fuck yeah!" out of me

[–] owenfromcanada@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago

Gotta say: The Simpsons. Danny Elfman made one of the most iconic intro songs, and while I'm not sure the Simpsons was the first to do it, the varying intros was another iconic element.

I really like the intro for Disenchantment as well.

[–] LambdaRX@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 month ago

Two Severance's intros are great: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NmS3m0OG-Ug https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKT5bwMkOAw Also many animes have epic openings.

[–] minibyte@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 month ago

Best and worst - Star Trek Enterprise.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Best (that haven't already been mentioned by others):

(The rest are so iconic I'm not even gonna bother linking them.)

  • The Twilight Zone
  • Gilligan's Island
  • Golden Girls
  • The Wonder Years
  • The X-Files
  • Cheers

Worst: I dunno, because my criteria for "worst" is being forgettable.

Polarizing/YMMV:

  • M*A*S*H
  • Cops
[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

The first season of True Detective had an excellent intro sequence. HBO generally does a good job with their series.

[–] BurningRiver@beehaw.org 8 points 1 month ago

Peacemaker. It’s so corny, but it makes me laugh and I couldn’t ever skip it.

[–] The_Che_Banana@beehaw.org 8 points 1 month ago

MASH

yes I'm old

[–] Skavau@lemm.ee 8 points 1 month ago

For me:

Babylon Berlin intro captures the art, the deco, and the fear of what the viewer knows is going to come of that time period.

Black Sails just perfect

Raised by Wolves I was hit and miss on this in many ways, but this intro is great - albeit I think slightly misleading as to its overall tone.

Pennyworth I thought S1 was a bit silly, but what an intro.

Warrior

Happiness This is just fun, and fits the show brilliantly

See also isn't bad

Song of the Bandits The song on the YT video isn't great here imo, but they actually mix it up in the show proper and use different songs. And some really fit the theme.

If we're talking about music in general through the show rather than just the intro - The Korean High Fantasy series Arthdal Chronicles. Some stunning, music, throughout, the show. It was also kinda like watching a JRPG (even if Korean).

[–] Reddfugee42@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Westworld intro is fuckin great

Simpsons is pretty original

[–] zipzoopaboop@lemmynsfw.com 1 points 1 month ago

Original version way too long though, and the HD version is awful

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 7 points 1 month ago

I'll always enjoy the intro to stargate atlantis just because the whole concept of the city (and it's appearance) is so fucking cool, even with the noticably.. Sufficient.. CGI it's so inherently neat that it'll remain impressive.

Great intros: Psych, Wynonna Earp, Leverage, Motherland: Fort Salem, Stargate SG-1, Buffy, Angel, Dark, Yellowjackets

Worst intros? Any that are just the name of the show for a few seconds

[–] klu9@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 month ago

The one that started it all?

[–] helpmyusernamewontfi 1 points 1 month ago

have you tried leverage redemption?

[–] WarlockLawyer@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Arthur and the Knights of Justice: awful show but badass 90s cartoon intro.

Clone High: more shows should give me a theme song I can recite to explain the show to others.

Daria: amazing show and the intro just fits the era and mood perfectly

[–] scbasteve7@lemm.ee 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Weeds. I believe starting in S2, they start doing the same song, same intro, but in different styles. I believe they even had green day cover it at one point.

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

I loved the S01 intro!

[–] End0fLine@midwest.social 5 points 1 month ago

I never skip Star Trek Voyager’s intro. I love both the music and the visuals.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 4 points 1 month ago

The Captain Scarlet Intro goes hard.

[–] helpmyusernamewontfi 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I don't know any bad TV intros. My favorites are Burn Notice and Leverage, and I'm unsure if it's nostalgia but my absolute favorite was always Renegade

"He was a cop, and good at his job, but he committed the ultimate sin and testified against other cops gone bad. Cops that tried to kill him, but got the woman he loved instead. Framed for murder, now he prowls the badlands. An outlaw hunting outlaws, a bounty hunter, a renegade."

[–] undeffeined@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 month ago

The White Lotus Season seasons 1 and 2. I find the third season intro really flat in comparison.

[–] xye@lemm.ee 3 points 1 month ago

Disney absolutely butchered the art of intros for its Star Wars shows by simply…not having them really. And I think it sucks.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 3 points 1 month ago

I sometimes still randomly hum/whistle the theme for Doug.

[–] raparperi11@sopuli.xyz 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Someone just reminded me of Marienhof theme the other day and damn it still slaps even if the show is just a German soap opera.

Legendary intro: Mr Bean

Dan da Dan. Show itself is alright, but the opening fucking SLAPS
