There's been an undercurrent of this among TERF forums. In many ways, they're leftover second wave feminists who didn't get on board with the intersectionality that's central to third wave feminism. They tend to drag other things from 1960s/70s feminism along with them, like prattling on about the Earth Mother and healing crystals.

One of the criticisms the third wave had of the second is that the sex negativity tended to align them with far right religious conservatives on many issues. That's a good indication that something went wrong. Maybe it's no surprise they ended up in MAGA.

I too say dumb shit when I'm high, I never thought I could get a high level government job for saying dumb shit while high.

"Well Mr. Doe, I'm afraid it's bad news. We found a mass in your chest, it looks like pancreatic cancer."

"Oh no, so what will we do about that? Will I get radiation, or chemo?"

"I'll be prescribing you a set of positively charged aura crystals, just spend some time near them every day, and let them charge under moonlight at night. I've also scheduled you a time with our resident chiropractor, he'll try to realign your chakras. Until then you could also try to stay away from Virgos."

We're all laughing but next up guys sort of shit will be picked up by US pharmaceutical companies who crank up the cost of s good chakra cleansing to the point where nobody can afford them without going bankrupt, then what are we going to do?

[–] plyth@feddit.org 2 points 1 day ago

Same as with regular medicine, book a flight to India or Mexico.

[–] kevin2107@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I truly want to know if these people are brain dead zombies.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 1 points 1 day ago

The brain dead zombies have complained about the association.

Weeelll, humans are out of touch with the Earth and we are depleting it's life force. I spend a great deal of time in several ecosystems, have some education in general science, botany, biology, etc., and a great deal on interest in all life sciences.

I think about this a lot, and don't want to write a wall of depressing shit, but our ecosystems have changed drastically since I was a wee lad in the 70s. And nobody notices! When I point out a given fact to people my age, they're clearly taken aback, had not thought about it. "Remember when cleaning bugs off your windshield was a common task?"

I can go on for an hour, but all is see is death, or rather an absence of life. If I could teleport a 20-something to the 70s, they would freak out over the abundance and variety of animals, in the city. We had more mammals in my mid-town Tulsa hood than I see on the edge of town in NW Florida. Again, I'm outside a lot, I'm looking.

Walking around outside Aldi yesterday I was looking at the perfect grass. Where most see a well kept lawn, all I saw was a barren desert. How much insecticide and herbicide did it take to make that perfect monoculture? Money says you couldn't dig an earthworm out of that "soil". Know how I used to find worms? Pick a random spot of dirt and dig for a whole minute. Now I don't even see them crawling around after a rain.

Another random fact: Global warming has ponds drying up in the summer that didn't dry up even 10-years ago. Dragonflies take 2-years to mature underwater. Put that together and enjoy all the mosquitoes.

Good news! My efforts have brought frogs back to my yard. They were deafening last night! Hoping to have mature dragonflies next year, or barring that, 2-years from now after I get the 150g pond set up.

(I know that's not what she's talking about, just had to get a bit off my chest.)

A tangent, but I do wonder about all the people that played Final Fantasy 7 and just didn't get any of the pro-environment message. The protagonists are literally eco terrorists who blow shit up to stop the antagonist corporation from bleeding the planet dry.

It's like people who listen to rage against the machine and don't take any politics away.

Here in Central Florida, love bugs have been a spring and fall problem for decades. They are an invasive species, so they have always been a concern.

We could count on them coating our windshields every spring, and their sticky, acidic guts eat away at the paint on our cars. Special bug removal additive for your wiper fluid was commonly stacked up on the aisles of stores in the spring. Cleaning your windshield and washing your car was routine.

But over the past few years, they've all but disappeared, which seems like a good thing, but the scary thing is that scientists have no idea why. For some reason, they just stopped breeding a few years ago. Nobody saw it coming, just after a year or two, people started asking "Where are the lovebugs?”, and scientist don't have an answer.

One scientist said since they were an invasive species, there is no grant money to study the issue. If an invasive species goes away, who cares, right? But scientists are concerned that whatever could wipe out an entire species, even if it's invasive, may be wiping out other species as well.

So the love bug problem solved itself, and we have no idea why.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago

Love bugs are top of mind when I think about this shit. When I moved here 20-years ago they were straight obnoxious. And YES! People advised me to get the guts off my clear coat ASAP. As you said, acidic little fuckers.

Last year I saw some in the driveway, didn't realize it was that September already. "Ah hell, here we go." That was the last of them I saw in 2024. I expect none, or close enough, this year.

[–] wondrous_strange@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I wish more people had your perspective

[–] MacAttak8@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

Literally talking to my wife today about how bugs on the bumper/windshield isn’t a thing anymore in 90% of places. It’s sad. Like you, all I see is death.

[–] spacesatan@leminal.space 4 points 1 day ago

I'd much rather the new age movement align with the right and make them be the ones who look stupid by association. Do not want to make room in the tent for that shit, thanks.

[–] selkiesidhe@lemm.ee 5 points 1 day ago

If the future of medicine is light then I don't want to see any of you MAGAt morons in a hospital or doctors office. Go sit outside and pray away your sickness in the sunlight, dumbasses.

People laughed when leftists talked about the yoga studio to fascism pipeline…

In all seriousness this is utterly fucked.

[–] Enkrod@feddit.org 19 points 2 days ago

Brown Esotericism was always a thing in Germany, there's a german wikipedia page about it, psiram wiki has a chapter about "National Socialism and extremist right groups today" on their page about Esotericism.

This has been going on since the Third Reich and is one of the pipelines to bring economically better off people into right wing rethoric and thought patterns.

[–] compostgoblin@slrpnk.net 72 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Naomi Klein talks about this in Doppelgänger, and it’s really interesting. She argues, compellingly, that the yoga/spirituality/wellness types were never so much truly left-wing as they were counter to the medical establishment. Which wasn’t inherently harmful - yoga and meditation are good, and modern medicine doesn’t solve every problem. But then COVID came along, and it stripped away all the control these people felt they had over their health. And then it became revealed that they were never so much far-left as they were far out.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

the current yoga is a white womans assumption that they can connect witht he universe, its basically co-opted from the religion from india, which is a different thing and turned into a huge industry for targeting mostly woman of a certain demographic.

[–] orcrist@lemm.ee 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The herbal remedies / yoga / crystal gems people were always selling snake oil. No surprise that they'd get along with Trump. (Which is not to say all herbal remedies are worthless, but many are, and if you don't believe me, have fun getting scammed. And yoga can do a lot for your fitness, yes yes, we agree.)

[–] dylanmorgan@slrpnk.net 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, there’s a big difference between “this herb has some naturally occurring anti-inflammatory compounds” and “this berry is a cure for cancer and lupus and the common cold.”

Regarding yoga, stretching and bodyweight exercises are definitely a good part of fitness, but the mystical side of it is complete horseshit.

My mom died last year because she thought she could treat her cancer by "resonating with the world's vibration." Fuck this woman, and fuck the people who decided to put her in charge of healthcare.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

certain demographics are very into the cult of homeopathy and naturopathy, and pseudoscience. its usually woman in thier mid 40s, and midwesterners. Chronic lyme is one, i once ventured into communities across various site. they all have undiagnosed mental illnesses, delusional parasitosis(they deny they have it).

they were taking supplements and antibiotics to the point of causing serious symptoms unrelated to the actual infection.

Same thing here. Grandmother and uncle (early 40s) Blake, you died nearly two years ago now. The herbs and vitamin C were never going to save you. Cindy, not even a year yet. I can feel nothing but sadness and sorrow for the way they were decieved.

The lockdowns and subsequent vaccine drama turned a huge amount of previously assumed "liberal" new-age dumbasses into full-throated right-wing dumbasses. It was surprising to watch at first, but it makes sense when you think about it.

[–] Ledericas@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago

i watched some yotubers turned to rabid magats, after all the vaccine drama+ some controversy that kickstarted it all from thier declining channel, they couldve connected with alot of POC in the community, im guess thier true colors of sucking off trump and musk was thier true value.

The MAGA Nazis are welcome to don their track suits and red sneakers, and take their poison, and wait for the next comet to take them to Heaven.

Well if only they could stop polluting the world so we can get some of that clean living.
