It's fairly common in culture nowadays to have sympathetic, non-malicious demon characters in fiction, and I can't help but think there has to be a connection with the fact that the church has a long history of demonizing (quite often literally) marginalized people.

the caricature of the modern demon is literally just demonized off just pagan celtic/greek mythology. Satan wasn’t a thing in the old testament and didnt look like a goat (which were common symbols in pre-Christian europe).
Its always been that way.
i have a long running OC I created as a teen that i think i made for this reason. also was raised Catholic so might have something else to do with that lol. but her character basically cobbled together marginalized humans and protected them.
never really thought hard about this i just thought goth demons were sexy and cool but might explain why i am attracted to that trope
I actually have right now an OC idea kicking around in my head that's a trickster demon whose whole thing is playing jokes on high-up authority figures that make them look embarrassing and foolish. Her whole MO comes from my own realization of how arbitrary and transient many of the rules and hierarchies in our own world are, so it's not a long jump from there to a figure who says "Lol your capitalist realism, I was there when medieval kings were saying that feudalism was an inviolable law of nature, now watch as I make this fascist loser embarrass himself."
ohhhhhh i wish i could draw because i want to draw her so bad i love it
Thank you!
She considers the raising of the Soviet flag over the Reichstag to be history's most magnificent practical joke. It doesn't get much better than a 1000 year Reich turned into a 12 year Reich by the very people it believed itself destined to conquer.
Immortal loki-joker demon doing silly stuff through world history and embracing Marxism yeah this would be a great web comic/series of stories/etc
These people want to fight a bloody civil war and yet they get freaked out by spirit halloween decorations. Deeply unserious weirdos.
I want this on a tshirt
It'd be a great shirt to wear to pride fr
if you grab the image yourself you can take it to one of the custom shirt sites (stickermule etc.) and bang one off for pretty cheap (that etsy one is only $17.58 tho which is hard to beat for only 1 shirt, you can get cheaper if you are printing like 20)
on their mailing list they do specials sometimes where you can get stuff at a really sharp discount for a day or two so I kind of have a stash of images and wait for a deal on what I want

the right are getting better at graphic design and it's making the left nervous
Don't forget to engage in demonic possession this pride month, comrades!

I swear someone here has made this joke positively.
the average person in a xianxia novel is more skeptical of the existence of demons than your average american
