Israel just carried out a widespread bombing of Iran, which has killed a number of senior officials inside Iran (though it seems the leadership is more-or-less intact) as well as a number of civilians. Important facilities have been targeted, but the amount of damage is unknown so far (note that many important Iranian facilities are deep underground, making them both hard to damage but also hard to determine if they are damaged from just satellite imagery, so reports of damage will be he-said-she-said).

It appears the attack took Iran by surprise, given that a residential block was targeted that contained some senior officials - if one saw an attack coming, one would imagine they'd be in bunkers. Nonetheless, like the rest of the Resistance Axis, I suspect that Iran has adapted their military structures to be resistant to decapitation strikes by ensuring that replacement figures are ready to take the place of killed officials.

Iran has delivered a massive missile barrage in response to Israeli aggression, even though Israel is continuing to bomb Iran. Iran is now aware of the location of many important Israeli sites, including secret nuclear sites, due to their recent intelligence haul, giving them a distinct edge.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful.
Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
Simplicius, who publishes on Substack. Like others, his political analysis should be soundly ignored, but his knowledge of weaponry and military strategy is generally quite good.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.

https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.

🇮🇷⚡IRGC chief Major General Salami:

" We have been living in the midst of a comprehensive global war for years, especially in the economic arena, with the aim of economic siege.

The fact that you do not feel the war means you are extremely powerful.

They want to isolate the Iranian nation, but no issue in the world can be resolved without Iran.

We warn the enemy not to make a mistake, as we have been prepared for war with the enemy for years.

We have experienced war and trust in the support of the Iranian people to respond to the enemy. "

Al Jazeera

Huge turnout at a second Dutch protest seeking gov’t action against Israel

An estimated 100,000 demonstrators in the Netherlands donned red clothing and marched to protest the Dutch government’s policy toward Israel. Protesters walked a 5km (3-mile) loop around the centre of The Hague to symbolically create the red line they say the government has failed to draw to halt Israel’s campaign in Gaza. “I don’t want to be complicit in these horrendous crimes happening there, and I want to speak out,” protester Marin Koning said.

The protest sent a “clear signal”, according to Marjon Rozema of Amnesty International Netherlands. Dutch officials must “act now, at both the national and international level, to increase the pressure on the Israeli government,” she said in a statement.

Israelis have been told by their official air raid warning service (Homefront Command) that they no longer have to stay near bomb shelters and can leave home. However missile attacks still possible.

I guess that means all drones have already been shot down.

Looks like the latest wave of ballistic missiles towards Israel was a volley of around 30 missiles, with a direct hit in Haifa, and possibly 2 more hits elsewhere.

More waves are likely on the way in the coming hours.

Here's a video of some Arrow 2 interceptions. Note the massive shrapnel cloud from the large warhead of the Arrow 2 interceptor, which uses both kinetic hit to kill interception and blast fragmentation. This helps explain the large flaming pieces of debris, even if an Arrow 2 doesn't land a direct hit, the Iranian missile re-entry vehicles get shredded into multiple pieces by all the shrapnel, while still continuing on their ballistic trajectory.

It's been over an hour since Israel told their citizens to remain near bomb shelters and observed launch preparations from Iran, with no launches from Iran reported yet... Weird.

Has anyone seen any actual evidence of Israeli fighter jets getting shot down? So far all I've seen is old photos of Russian aircraft being shot down, AI images and dubious ejection footage. Please share if you have any.

Related - a thread of old footage and images that is being shared currently as new footage

News from Palestine bring some hope and a lot of despair:

Thousands join Tunisian-led aid convoy to Gaza after Madleen seizure – the cradle

With aid ships blocked at sea, North African volunteers are turning to overland routes in an effort to break the siege

At least 130 Palestinians killed at US-Israeli GHF sites: Officials – the cradle

The killings come amid what UN officials describe as the worst hunger crisis on the planet.

Something of note I’ve noticed in the past two waves of Iranian strikes: there appears to be far, far fewer anti-missile munitions airborne here than we were seeing in the first few waves of strikes. Either Israel is trying to conserve ammunition or Iran has been successful in neutralizing anti-missile defenses

Just to clear something up. It was reported here that Iran had launched drones at Israel, this has not happened. Iran currently denies launching any drones. Reports seem to state that the drones going to Israel were launched from Iraq.

State media in The Netherlands is reporting extensively on casualties in Israel and about Iranian casualties they just write: Iranian state media is not reporting the amount of casualties in Iran

And then they write how Israel is only targeting military facilities.

Is there a place where I can see actual updates on Iranian casualties?

I’ve become a fan of soccer over the last couple years. One thing I have realized is that when you watch a game - and I mean really watch it closely, not while on your phone or after a few beers - it’s incredibly nerve-wracking. At least half the time, it feels like my team is getting its ass kicked and playing like shit. And then… a few crisp passes, man gets beat 1x1, and then my team is up. Even when my team wins, it never “feels” like they won unless they were playing a clearly inferior team and won 4-0 or something. And years ago I used to watch American football and ice hockey, and I remember feeling similar. Watching things real closely moment by moment, and any negative play feels like a disaster.

All this to say, I think war is no different. We are the first humans to be able to follow war in real time. I’m not sure war is meant to be followed this way. Can you imagine if we lived in the 1940s and could get updates on Barbarossa in real time? I can’t imagine how gut-wrenched that would feel… at least until the tide turned after what, two years?

I am not trying to encourage blind optimism. There are plenty of reasons for negative reactions and feeling to what has transpired so far. War has always given an initial advantage to the side that strikes first, especially when it’s a surprise (even though it shouldn’t have been). This is likely going to be a long war, and the outcome is far from determined, despite the efforts of DC and Tel Aviv to make it seem that way.

100 Iranian drones on the way per Israel w a video https://t.me/nayaforiraq/28385

Could be diversionary ahead of further action

Iranian Army Commander Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi:

We received instructions from the Supreme Leader to punish the perpetrators and instigators of the crime.

Iranian media reports that 200 additional drones have been launched.

Iranian government:

We can only talk to such a predatory entity through the language of force. Today, the world understands more clearly Iran's insistence on its right to nuclear enrichment, nuclear technology, and missile capabilities.

Iran launched another wave of ballistic missiles targeting Israel. The video below shows the space based battles between exoatmospheric interceptors and the ballistic missiles. Some got intercepted, some made it through, some fragments/debris also visible. Warfare in space.

Why the hell did Iran's leadership think they could ever negotiate with the US? After what was done to Hezbollah, they should have realised that the doctrine of "strategic patience" was a failure. I can understand their hesitance to intervene directly at first, but once Nasrallah was murdered, they should have recognised that the entity would not stop until confronted, and in a more meaningful way than the two shows of force in 2024. It remains to be seen whether their error will result in a total defeat or not but it's absurd how they've handled this whole war.

[–] Awoo@hexbear.net 59 points 2 months ago (4 children)

They did this to Russia. They did this to Hamas. They did this to Hezbollah. They did this to Syria. They're doing it to Iran.

US negotiations are not real. They are covers and gambits and misdirection.

Abbas pushes to disarm Palestinians in Lebanon - Electronic Intifada Hexbear Post pflp-octoplushie

On 30 April, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun told Sky News Arabia that Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas had raised the issue of disarming Palestinian factions in Lebanon’s refugee camps at the emergency Arab Summit in Cairo in early March.

It was a remarkable revelation. The emergency summit’s goal was the reconstruction of Gaza. But Abbas had other priorities. Both before and in the weeks since the Arab summit, Abbas has criticized the armed resistance by Palestinian factions on several occasions, especially by Hamas, notably demanding that what he called the “sons of dogs” release the remaining Israeli captives in Gaza.

On remote Indonesia karst outpost, Indigenous farmers fear the silence of the yams - Hexbear Post minecraft

  • The Banggai archipelago is a remote landscape of around 97% limestone karst east of Indonesia’s Sulawesi Island.
  • Extractive concessions on 39 locations on Peleng island, the largest island in the Banggai Islands district, may soon cut into the karst bedrock to mine the ancient limestone for cement, glass and other industrial applications.
  • Indigenous villagers on Peleng Island say they worry the development could catalyze unprecedented local environmental damage, impairing the cultivation of unique yam varieties grown only here.

For anyone wondering about the reported earthquake in Qom near Fordow. It looks like a munitions dump/storage facility was hit, setting off powerful secondary explosions. So not an attack on the nuclear facilities at Fordow, and not a nuclear test.
