"This war will destabilize the whole region and set off a global Shockwave of anti-americanism, and this is pretty good for our interests"

I don't buy the whole "oh the US ruling class had no idea Iraq would be such a boondoggle". They knew, and they knew it would send the region spiraling, and this is good for the US and Israel.

I wouldn't be surprised to find out the Bush administration knew 9/11 was going to happen and they ignored it so they could have a pretense for plundering Afghanistan.

It's not quite "Bush knew 9/11 was gonna happen", but Blowback season 1 and 4 pretty much shows all the ways the US was ready to go to war and how 9/11 was just a convenient excuse.

Oh yeah he definitely was ready to jump on it. He campaigned on boosting the military and increasing US involvement/adventurism overseas.

Umm

But the Iraq was a loss in very way for the USA

Both on the propaganda front (not in the beginning but eventually) and on control of the world

Sure they got rid of Saddam and destroyed Iraq

But it didn’t work out that well tbh

it would send the region spiraling, and this is good for the US and Israel.

how so?

counter argument would be something like: iraq is mostly controlled by iran now and used to smuggle weapons to militia groups across the region: egypt, libya, lebanon, yemen, syria

the one caveat is Assad/syria in which the US arguably is better positioned now than it was 2003

Predicting ISIS was a nice pull, even if kind of obvious in hindsight of the brave Mujahideen fighters

[–] Anomalocaris@lemm.ee 5 points 1 month ago

is it a prediction?

like predicting shooting yourself in the dick will result in a gun wound in the dick
