This reads like a middle school research paper. I couldn't imagine not feeling immense embarrassment if I submitted this to a court.

Judge, in this essay I will discuss how internet man makes me sad nerd

Why are they even mentioning Hasan? He's not being sued...

Since the vast majority of Jews in the United States say caring about Israel is "essential" or "important"

citations-needed

54% [of US Jews] have a favorable view of the Israeli government

https://www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/2024/04/02/how-us-jews-are-experiencing-the-israel-hamas-war/

Wow wonder why they cited the "caring about Israel" poll instead of the "favorable view of the Israeli government" poll phoenix-think

Also, "caring about Israel" could mean you have family or a friend living there, it could simply mean you care about the land in a religious sense (not the state), it doesn't necessarily mean you are a Zionist although I'm guessing most surveyed are Zionists, at least liberal ones.

But still, Zionism is an ideology. You could say the same thing about EK's rants against the ideology of the Islamic republic, except that he is actually doing that from a racial/islamophobic angle rather than actual sensible critique like Hasan and the people being sued give to Zionism, a fascist ideology

The lawyer is from the West Bank. It's a lot easier to win a lawsuit dispossessing a Palestinian of their land then it is to win defamation or copyright suits in CA. What a dumbfuck

Isn't it weird that they're referring to him as "Hasan"? I'd expect a formal document like this to use his last name, either "Piker" or "Mr Piker". It's not even his online pseudonym, that would be "Hasanabi".

Imagine paying lawyers to create SLAPP cases that you will eventually lose

If I was a judge I would bully this counsel for being such a dork.

It’s fascinating to see how absolutely ridiculously hyperbolic they have to be to try and thread the needle of this being a legalistic argument that Zionism is synonymous with antisemitism. The definition of Zionism as “the right of Jewish self determination in their ancestral homeland” is such a disingenuous way to describe what’s being done in Israel. Stealing your neighbors home is not fucking self determination! That definition so conveniently elides the intention and function of oppression inherent to operating a state. Especially one that is ethnosupremacist by definition! This guys really sucks

It also says that h3snarkers watch the show with "orgiastic hatred" lmao. I would love to be in the room when a judge has to read this.

the leftoversh3 subreddit is filled with hilarious examples of why this lawsuit will be immediately thrown out of court

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 19 points 1 week ago

I hope that EK pulls up a picture of Hasans armpit at some point during the trial

[–] MF_COOM@hexbear.net 17 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So uh, what is actually happening here? What is the lawsuit?

[–] Babs@hexbear.net 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ethan Klein made a big video talking about Hasan, the "content nuke". Several other streamers made react videos talking about it, including many left wing and pro-Palestinian streamers. Ethan is now suing a couple of said streamers, for violating his copyright by showing the video on their streams.

Ironically, a long time ago Ethan was subject to a similar lawsuit about react content, which he won by saying that his react video was sufficiently transformative.

Hasan is not being sued. He is only relevant as the video was part of Ethan's obsession with him.

Ethan, a hundred-millionaire who lives in a mansion in Bel Air, is specifically suing much much smaller content creators who, unlike Hasan, cannot as easily fight back.
