Medieval

Potatoes

My suspension of disbelief is ruined completely.

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 4 points 3 weeks ago

So doth hates potatoes

would be the modern equivalent of "so does hates" which doesn't make sense

"So, doth thou hate potatoes?" or "So, thou hates potatoes?"

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 weeks ago

Thou art no fun at watching movies.

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Potatoes are a New World crop. They didn't exist in medieval Europe.

And i was saying thats (corrected elsewyere to 'early modern') english, so, possibly intended by the writer, possibly not, that language indicates a time they could have had potatoes.

You may proclaim "I am a Saxon" and a squire will protest "So thou doth revile the Normans?"

Pray, heretic, didst I stutter?

[–] DominatorX1@thelemmy.club 2 points 3 weeks ago

I'm using this.

Had this issue recently.

"Vanilla is good."

"What? No, chocolate is good."

"Both can be good. There doesn't have to be a competition."

"NO! Either chocolate is good or you hate chocolate!"

[–] GreenKnight23@lemmy.world 11 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

Exactly! I think we can both find common ground somewhere in the ice cream tub.

Fake banana tastes disgusting but kiwi is delicious

[–] Klear@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Fake banana tastes the way bananas used to taste back in the day, before they were all cavendish.

[–] Flickerby@lemmy.zip 3 points 3 weeks ago

I know, and thank God they got rid of those things

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Where the neopolitan lovers at?

[–] ZeffSyde@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

They can go right to hell! /S

[–] rmuk@feddit.uk 3 points 3 weeks ago

Presumably /s is a markup tag meaning "end of strawberries".

[–] herrvogel@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

I didn't believe opinions could be wrong until I saw this

The people who think this isn't the case for the vast majority of humanity still have some growing up to do themselves.

... most people are fucking dumb, yo.

[–] gandalf_der_12te@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

it has nothing to do with being dumb. people can be extremely dumb and still be friendly. this is just behavior that's looking for a fight.

[–] MotoAsh@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

Being friendly and making illogical assumptions about statements are largely unrelated things.

Taking someone in good faith does not imply words and especially phrasing will be correctly interpreted.

It is waay too accurate.

In this land, in this time, people look for conflict. Even the most minor incident can bring you into trouble. People try to see that most unfavorable interpretation in anything. People truly express their demise and depression in the most crude of ways imaginable.

[–] InputZero@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

What are you talking about?! You're just wrong! Minor incidents don't magically get people in trouble. They're bad people to the core. We want to take them down because it's the right thing to do. ~<In case it's not obvious I was trying to be sarcastic>~

aww you're cute when you're trying to sound angry :) i know you're a nice person all the way down :-)

[–] Slovene@feddit.nl 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)
