Woo woo sage and crystals psychotherapist butted in to say they were definitely separate, because ADHD was genetic while autism was generally caused by outside influences like vaccines.

God I hate him so much. He bragged about spending 9 days in Peru on a Ayahuasca vision quest so I've been rephrasing it to everyone as shitting and puking until he saw god.

I hate the woo woo crowd I hate the woo woo crowd I hate the woo woo crowd

They're so reactionary. All the shit they do stigmatizing autism is reactionary norms-enforcing conformist bullshit. All the shit they do demonizing vaccinations and talking about innate wellness and natural healing is eugenicist and designed to kill the "weak" (or the unlucky).

For a while I thought "oh maybe I was wrong because I do see plenty of leftists into woo woo shit. I mean woo woo is objectively incorrect but maybe it's not as big a red flag as I thought and is not worth struggle sessioning over" and then wouldn't you know it, the same people who were into that also turned out to be really quick to follow along with the liberals when they decided it was fine to feed the entire working class into the meatgrinder of repeated covid infections. Some of us may get disabled by long covid, but that's a price the ruling class is willing to pay.

It's not even that they're maliciously evil, it's that in order to believe in woo woo shit you have to be very good at ignoring evidence and engaging in magical thinking, which are the opposite of materialist analysis, and that leads to behavior indistinguishable from behavior borne of reactionary attitudes like "it's good if the vulnerable die actually"

Antiintellectualism is awful. It's never been easier to study, the gates are wide open. Want to understand something? Welcome, come talk and learn. We will show you how to pirate textbooks, where to watch free lectures, how to find papers. You can easily look up definitions and concepts, mark up and share documents, talk with millions.

It's hard sure, knowing things is hard, no way around that sorry.

You find meditating in front of an amethyst helps you handle stress? Probably true, glad you found something to help you. Well done. You think putting an amethyst up your bum will help with the cold? Please fucking read something more rigorous than a blog.

The cold virus is stored in the prostate fluid, you gotta expel it out.

Exactly. There should be no tolerance for this shit.

Woo woo people are infuriating because not only are they unqualified to provide a cure but they are equally unqualified to provide a diagnosis.

If I complained about my car brakes making noise and the mechanic started talking about negative energies in the alternator I'd find a new fucking mechanic.

How cooked does your brain need to be to not only believe vaccines can cause autism, but that they are the primary cause? So unspeakably stupid . . .

[–] Barabas@hexbear.net 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I'm just fascinated that they think ADHD is genetic and that autism is caused by vaccines. Usually they point to that "nobody had it back in my day" with both (ADHD is usually blamed on parenting or children using [current fad]).

[–] Damarcusart@hexbear.net 4 points 3 weeks ago

It's literally just because they were told that autism is caused by vaccines and the woo woo con artists haven't told their flock of rubes about a special ADHD cure for only $149.99 yet.

[–] NephewAlphaBravo@hexbear.net 26 points 3 weeks ago

which vaccine causes people to think crystal healing is real?

[–] Lavender@hexbear.net 21 points 3 weeks ago

I was hoping he wouldn't bring up vaccines and dead-dove-3

What do people like that say if asked for evidence of the vax autism claims? Why do people believe these things?

[–] AFineWayToDie@hexbear.net 19 points 3 weeks ago

"I know a guy who knows a guy whose son took the AIDS vaccine and he turned into a lizard."

[–] ProfessorOwl_PhD@hexbear.net 15 points 3 weeks ago

This man also told me that "reiki" energy control/healing is based on harnessing quantum fluctuations so the answer is he's scientifically illiterate.

They don't know what evidence is

Jesus, I'm lucky enough to not have encountered those types of peeps. I've only really divulged my AuADHD to certain coworkers I've known for a while. For me what's tiring is the "omg I didn't know!" and I have to explain masking (my work face) and how working in a high stress environment like healthcare helps to hyper focus my ADHD because all the tasks are short term interventions and the scripts I use to talk to people negate me saying something stupid.

i believe the people who brag socially about a plant ceremony are too dim to ever glean meaningful insight from it. basically the sort of people who visit an ancient, remote temple just to take a selfie for the 'gram or linked in.

[–] axont@hexbear.net 5 points 3 weeks ago

Do the woowoo types think vaccines only cause autism in children? Because a lot of people get vaccinated for the first time as adults and I've never heard of an adult suddenly becoming autistic.

I hate the perception that autism is somehow childish, or associated with children somehow

There are a few groups of people it should just be legal to punch in the face, no questions asked, Woo woo people are definitely one of them.
