Even though anti-LGBTQ+ Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) recently decided to run for re-election in a different district to increase her chances of success, her plan is already backfiring. In fact, she might not even end up on the ballot.

Boebert switched her re-election campaign from Colorado’s Third District (where many expected her to lose) to the state’s Fourth District. But for her name to appear on the June 25 Republican primary ballot, she needs to collect 1,500 signatures of district residents and win at least 10% of support from the delegates at the Republican party’s biennial convention, according to the left-leaning political website Crooks and Liars.

Even if Boebert collects the 1,500 required signatures by the March 19 deadline, she’ll still need to win over delegates in a district where she has been a relative stranger. Collecting signatures can be a costly process, and the signatures can be tossed out if they’re successfully challenged under a fraud claim.

Furthermore, even if she makes the ballot in the heavily Republican district, Boebert will be joining an already crowded field of seven other candidates, including state House Minority Leader Mike Lynch (R) — and all of them will spend the primary trashing Boebert over her headline-grabbing misbehavior.

headline-grabbing misbehavior.

That article's author knew exactly what they were writing.

[–] Hominine@lemmy.world 31 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Seems they didn't want to jerk us around ..or did they?😏

[–] Nougat@kbin.social 18 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It's incredible what can be done with the stroke of a pen.

It’s not that hard when you have the wits

[–] xor@sh.itjust.works 19 points 10 months ago (2 children)

yeah, this really blew up in her face

[–] xor@sh.itjust.works 4 points 10 months ago

don't insult the intelligence of blow up dolls...

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

I was actually surprised I didn't see a bukakke joke first thing in the thread.

[–] toothpaste_sandwich@feddit.nl 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Is there a pun beyond "grabbing" that I'm missing? This is the Nazi lady with a history in porn, right?

[–] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Google "Boebert and Beetlejuice" and you'll learn more about the Congresswoman you wish you didn't.

[–] toothpaste_sandwich@feddit.nl 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Ugh, thank you... I guess. The vaping while in the audience watching a theater show isn't even the worst part of it, huh.

[–] quindraco@lemm.ee 2 points 10 months ago

Definitely not.

House Minority Leader Mike Lynch ®

This will never not be funny to me, the way ( R ) gets translated to Registered Trademark.

[–] Chainweasel@lemmy.world 50 points 10 months ago (2 children)

a district where she has been a relative stranger.

Unfortunately she's not a nobody, she's been all over the news for years and she's a household name for both parties at this point. Even though she hasn't been part of that district I guarantee every one of the voters have heard her name and since it's a heavily right leaning district it's a toss up as to how they feel about her.
Yes, she's had a few scandalous news stories about her but that's far from a deal breaker for Republican voters, but she's been a hardcore MAGA nut job the entire time and Republican voters absolutely love that shit.

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 38 points 10 months ago (2 children)

She had to change districts due to electability reasons, which isn't a good look for her. She is also going against a state Republican in the primary with deep political connections.

I can see the primary going bad for her, especially if Trump is off the ballot.

[–] TheIllustrativeMan@lemmy.world 28 points 10 months ago

I mean whoever she ends up running against in the primaries (or general) will have a field day with "she represented her district so poorly she had to change to ours".

[–] Chainweasel@lemmy.world 9 points 10 months ago

Let's hope, but the 2016 election taught me a hard lesson about counting chickens before they're hatched. I don't think I'll ever consider any outcome a sure thing again regardless of the odds.

[–] Endorkend@kbin.social 5 points 10 months ago

The fact she's known on a national stage could work against her tho.

[–] fne8w2ah@lemmy.world 34 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Fuck that white trash anyways.

[–] tsonfeir@lemm.ee 7 points 10 months ago (2 children)

You can just say trash, and not make it about race.

[–] FlightyPenguin@lemmy.world 22 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Ibram X. Kendi said something about this that made me stop using the term "white trash". Basically, the idea of the term is that "white trash" don't uphold the virtue of whiteness, that whiteness is goodness, and white trash are white in skin color only. Thus, using the term supports white supremacy, whether or not you realize it.

So thank you for saying something, even if it's unpopular.

[–] tsonfeir@lemm.ee 6 points 10 months ago

I appreciate this comment.

[–] dangblingus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Theres a specific flavor of trashiness that exists only in some of the most oblivious white people, usually at Walmart.

[–] tsonfeir@lemm.ee 5 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago)

Don’t make obliviousness about race. And while I do agree it’s fun to make fun of “Walmart people,” there are plenty of trashy people who can afford to shop at better stores.

[–] N0body@sh.itjust.works 24 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Boebert's gonna need to bring some lotion.

[–] Jaytreeman@kbin.social 7 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Is that a burn or a handjob joke? :)

[–] HWK_290@lemmy.world 3 points 10 months ago

Suffice to say, might not be the only thing blowing in her face

[–] paddirn@lemmy.world 23 points 10 months ago (1 children)

She can always get into porn if the whole… whatever it is that she does–thing doesn’t work out.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 21 points 10 months ago (1 children)

State Rep. Richard Holtorf (R), another of Boebert’s opponents, asked, “Does she think we’re that stupid? Does she think we’re going to be fooled by this trickery?… Seat shopping isn’t something voters look kindly on.”

Well . . . Yeah. The CO republiQan voters are verifiable shit-for-brains idiots. It’s delusional to think otherwise, and that’s why I don’t think State Rep. Richard Holtorf is being anything but hypocritical here. He knows all too well what drooling, fox-news-mainlining, pinheaded chowderheads his voters are, and how they’ll fall for any fucking flag-waving bullshit like BoeBoe.

[–] billiam0202@lemmy.world 17 points 10 months ago

"Judge shopping, however, we're totally cool with."

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 11 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Boebert will be joining an already crowded field of seven other candidates, including state House Minority Leader Mike Lynch (R)

Holy cow I had no idea. That's quite the person to run against. Is he the incumbent?

[–] Kiwi@lemmy.world 5 points 10 months ago (1 children)

No Ken Buck holds the seat and is retiring

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 4 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Why is mike lynch, who I assume already has a district, running there?

[–] Kiwi@lemmy.world 7 points 10 months ago

He is a state house rep, no a national house rep

[–] HopeOfTheGunblade@kbin.social 6 points 10 months ago

He has a seat in the Colorado state House, and is running for a seat in the US House.

[–] reverendsteveii@lemm.ee 10 points 10 months ago

if only her car or microwave would take a hint and do the same

[–] Doorbook@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago (1 children)

It seems as every time there is a news article about her they use a picture with her mouth open.

[–] Dadifer@lemmy.world 10 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I think they're trying to imply that a lot of things have blown up in her face.

turns out that running around giving handies at kids' shows while yelling transphobic slurs at anyone who will listen is no way to run for office.

[–] tsonfeir@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago

Sounds like the perfect thing to do in a red state.

[–] HelixDab2@lemm.ee 3 points 10 months ago

I wonder if she'll go back to being an escort?

[–] yesman@lemmy.world -3 points 10 months ago

The number of misogyny in this thread is too damn high.
