The ruling German coalition - the FDP, the SPD, and the Greens - has been in dire straits since the war in Ukraine began due to their steadfast commitment to destroying their country as much as possible in solidarity with Ukraine destroying themselves too. Scholz is deeply unpopular, with a record low approval of 20%, and his party's approval is even lower.

The German left has been entirely unable to take advantage of this situation, with Die Linke fragmenting due to split opinions on what position they should hold on Ukraine, among other issues. As a result, the major conservative party, the CDU, has gained a lot of voters over the past couple years. Most worrying, however, is the gains that the fascist party, the AfD, has made - from 10% in 2021 all the way to ~20% today. A significant chunk of the vote is likely protest votes due to the lack of an alternative, but a vote for fascists makes you a fascist nonetheless.

Recent controversies with the AfD - including an allegation that they held a secret meeting discussing a plan to mass-deport millions of migrants in an obvious parallel to Nazi meetings planning to remove all Jews from the country - has recently slightly damped approval for the AfD. This meeting generated counter-protests and condemnation from many Germans. It was later revealed that the meeting might not really have happened as alleged, but it doesn't actually matter, because the AfD's stance is being increasingly reflected by the ruling coalition, who recently introduced a bill allowing faster deportations of rejected asylum seekers and significant new powers for authorities in that regard, including potentially the criminalization of sea rescue organizations and imprisonment for aid workers.

The German government is increasingly considering banning the AfD, with their anxiety and motivation to do so rising as the AfD maintains and improves its position as Germany heads towards elections in late 2025. There are intermediate steps that could be done, such as revoking state funding, but if that doesn't work, then the party might well be banned. While I will never argue with fascist parties being banned, this probably won't fix anything, as the underlying economic and social conditions that are fueling these electoral shifts in the first place are not improving. Germany, the largest industrial power in Europe, is mired in a recession, particularly a manufacturing recession, from which there appears to be no escape. It has so far carefully shepherded its natural gas resources to keep the population as mollified as possible, but this has come at the expense of industry. In a trend starting from July 2022, manufacturing PMIs are still well below 50, reaching 45.5 in January 2024, which indicates decline. I suppose if you wanted to look on the bright side, it's better than it was in July 2023, where it was a whopping 38.8, so the rate of decline is becoming a little slower.

And this is just the domestic stuff. Germany has also famously sided with Israel to support them during the ICJ genocide case, has kowtowed to Netanyahu as they bond over being Genocide Experts, and maintains its support of Ukraine, continuing to send military gear and money to be converted to scrap metal by Russian artillery - rather than spending money on doing anything about the cost of living. In the face of a historic economic downturn, it has only more fervently stated its desire to remain militarily opposed to Russia for decades.

Israel-Palestine Conflict

If you have evidence of Israeli crimes and atrocities that you wish to preserve, there is a thread here in which to do so.

Sources on the fighting in Palestine against Israel. In general, CW for footage of battles, explosions, dead people, and so on:

UNRWA daily-ish reports on Israel's destruction and siege of Gaza and the West Bank.

English-language Palestinian Marxist-Leninist twitter account. Alt here.
English-language twitter account that collates news (and has automated posting when the person running it goes to sleep).
Arab-language twitter account with videos and images of fighting.
English-language (with some Arab retweets) Twitter account based in Lebanon. - Telegram is @IbnRiad.
English-language Palestinian Twitter account which reports on news from the Resistance Axis. - Telegram is @EyesOnSouth.
English-language Twitter account in the same group as the previous two. - Telegram here.

English-language PalestineResist telegram channel.
More telegram channels here for those interested.

Various sources that are covering the Ukraine conflict are also covering the one in Palestine, like Rybar.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict

Examples of Ukrainian Nazis and fascists
Examples of racism/euro-centrism during the Russia-Ukraine conflict

Sources:

Defense Politics Asia's youtube channel and their map. Their youtube channel has substantially diminished in quality but the map is still useful. Moon of Alabama, which tends to have interesting analysis. Avoid the comment section.
Understanding War and the Saker: reactionary sources that have occasional insights on the war.
Alexander Mercouris, who does daily videos on the conflict. While he is a reactionary and surrounds himself with likeminded people, his daily update videos are relatively brainworm-free and good if you don't want to follow Russian telegram channels to get news. He also co-hosts The Duran, which is more explicitly conservative, racist, sexist, transphobic, anti-communist, etc when guests are invited on, but is just about tolerable when it's just the two of them if you want a little more analysis.
On the ground: Patrick Lancaster, an independent and very good journalist reporting in the warzone on the separatists' side.

Unedited videos of Russian/Ukrainian press conferences and speeches.

Pro-Russian Telegram Channels:

Again, CW for anti-LGBT and racist, sexist, etc speech, as well as combat footage.

https://t.me/Slavyangrad ~ A few different pro-Russian people gather frequent content for this channel (~100 posts per day), some socialist, but all socially reactionary. If you can only tolerate using one Russian telegram channel, I would recommend this one.
https://t.me/s/levigodman ~ Does daily update posts.
https://t.me/patricklancasternewstoday ~ Patrick Lancaster's telegram channel.
https://t.me/gonzowarr ~ A big Russian commentator.
https://t.me/rybar ~ One of, if not the, biggest Russian telegram channels focussing on the war out there. Actually quite balanced, maybe even pessimistic about Russia. Produces interesting and useful maps.
https://t.me/epoddubny ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/boris_rozhin ~ Russian language.
https://t.me/mod_russia_en ~ Russian Ministry of Defense. Does daily, if rather bland updates on the number of Ukrainians killed, etc. The figures appear to be approximately accurate; if you want, reduce all numbers by 25% as a 'propaganda tax', if you don't believe them. Does not cover everything, for obvious reasons, and virtually never details Russian losses.
https://t.me/UkraineHumanRightsAbuses ~ Pro-Russian, documents abuses that Ukraine commits.

Pro-Ukraine Telegram Channels:

Almost every Western media outlet.

According to reporters in Gaza the US-backed zionist extermination bombing campaign of Rafah has begun.

There are over 1.4 million displaced people in this tiny region of the Gaza Strip. The Cradle used sattelite imagery to show the population density change recently as displaced Palestinians gather at the southern border which was designated as a "safe zone"

Hamas warned yesterday that an invasion of Rafah will lead to "tens of thousands of martyrs". Today they said there will be no possibilities of negotiations or ceasefire if Rafah is invaded.

May Allah protect the brave people of Gaza and grant peace to the martyrs.

It’s really funny how Trump and Biden have 24/7 security details that observe every single thing they do, and they didn’t report their illegal retention of classified material. In fact, they likely transferred the material in their vehicles.

Are they not going to prosecute the security and staff members who retrieved the material, or would that be a slippery slope because then someone might prosecute their security detail in the future if they assist in keeping secrets?

Iran asks FIFA to ban Israel over war in Gaza

Iran’s football federation says it asked world football’s governing body, FIFA, to suspend Israel’s football federation over the country’s war on Gaza.

In an announcement posted on the Iranian football federation’s website, Iran asked FIFA to “completely suspend” the Israeli federation “from all activities related to football”.

The request also asks for “immediate and serious measures” by FIFA and its member associations “to prevent the continuation” of the Israeli “crimes and provide food, drinking water, medicinal and medical supplies to innocent people and civilians”.

The Islamic Republic doesn’t recognise Israel, its sworn enemy, and prohibits all contact between Iranian and Israeli athletes.

Civilians storming the legislature, with only a few indirect deaths, in an attempt to keep the sitting President in power? Horrible evil authoritarian treason.

The President ordering the military to shell the legislature, directly killing many, in an attempt to keep himself in power? Cool and good, actually.

I'm not one to go on about how great presidents used to be because they all suck in different ways but goddamn this Biden drama has reminded me of this Abraham Lincoln quote. Like just imagine any president in the last 50 years saying anything close to this coherent:

From whence shall we expect the approach of danger? Shall some trans-Atlantic military giant step the earth and crush us at a blow? Never. All the armies of Europe and Asia...could not by force take a drink from the Ohio River or make a track on the Blue Ridge in the trial of a thousand years. No, if destruction be our lot we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of free men we will live forever or die by suicide.

Like that goes hard and actually uses poetic language, meanwhile politicians now can barely form a sentence

The Saudis appointed a new Guaido for Yemen:

Yemen: New head of government appointed

The "internationally recognized" Yemeni government, which is being kept alive by Saudi Arabia in particular, has a new prime minister. On Monday, the former Foreign Minister Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak was appointed as the successor to the previous head of government, Main Abdulmalik Said, as reported by the Saba news agency. However, the government no longer has any legitimacy due to pending elections. In fact, the Ansarollah, known as Huthis, control large parts of the country on the Arabian Peninsula.

guaido

From Naked Capitalism about The Interview:

Further update: This talk was flabby and Tucker blew this opportunity. Given that Putin often does 3-4 hour press sessions, and Tucker said there was no time limit, Tucker ran out of gas due to his difficulty in engaging effectively with Putin, as contrasted with the Stone interviews. Putin shut it down and Tucker didn’t offer any reason to continue: “Shall we end here, or is there anything else?”

I don’t think Tucker was knowledgeable enough nor did he compensate with preparation. He appeared ignorant of many key issues germane to Putin’s decisions to invade, such at the US refusing to give written responses to Russian proposals in 2021, Zelensky asking for nukes in the February 2022 Munich Security Conference, and Ukraine increasing shelling of Donbass then as it was also massing troops. He might have been able to banter with Putin during his discussion of NATO expansion, for instance, but Tucker exhibited almost no independent point of view or meaningful preparation.

lmao for those who watched it, is this true?

The verdict seems to be that the Oliver Stone 4-part interview with Putin (which I did watch) blew this one out of the water (not surprised at all). Glad I dodged this one.

And for those who haven’t watched it, you MUST watch the Oliver Stone interview series. It’s that good.

The Greek government is selling off the last silverware: airports, highways and seaports are to be privatized in the coming months

In Athens, the government is initially selling its 30 percent stake in Venizelos Airport. Having already sold the two million square meter site of the old Ellinikon airport to the Greek real estate mogul Spiros Latsis and his "development company" Lamda at a low price of around 900 million euros and a 99-year lease, the Venizelos share package is now being released, which is supposed to pour around 785 million euros into the coffers of the former “bankrupt Greeks”.

The Greek government expects a total of 5.77 billion euros in revenue from privatization measures for 2024. In addition to the Egnatia (Igoumenitsa - Turkey) and Attiki Odos highways, this also includes the seaports of Heraklion and Volos, as well as Lavrio, from where left-wing political prisoners were once sent to the prison island of Makronisos.

The Greeks were able to observe in practice a year ago on the Athens - Thessaloniki railway line what economic and social consequences the unbridled privatization drive of the head of government and his henchmen like Latsis can have. On the night of February 28th, near the small town of Tempi (Larissa), an express train from the capital, filled mainly with young people on the way to the University of Thessaloniki, collided head-on with a freight train. Result: 57 dead and more than 200 seriously injured. Cause: Staff cuts and incompetence of the new Italian owner Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane of the former state-owned Greek railway company OSE, which the government in Athens sold off for a ridiculous 45 million euros in 2017.

Everything must go

Ukraine's war effort looks fucked to the point of collapse. Avdiivka might turn into a shut cauldron any day now. Russia looks like it could break through at various points along the front. Ukraine has very serious personell problems, leadership problems and ammo shortages.

Maybe Russia will run out of steam at some point, but right now the Ukrainian collapse is accelerating.

I mean look at this (WP, archive):

Oleksandr, a battalion commander, said the companies in his unit on average are staffed at about 35 percent of what they should be. A second battalion commander from an assault brigade said that is typical for units that carry out combat tasks.

Asked how many new soldiers he has received — not including those who have returned after injuries — Oleksandr said his battalion was sent five people over the past five months. He and other commanders said the new recruits tend to be poorly trained, creating a dilemma about whether to send someone immediately onto the battlefield because reinforcements are needed so badly, even though they are likely to get injured or killed because they lack the know-how.

“The basis of everything is the lack of people,” Oleksandr said.

“Where are we going? I don’t know,” he added. “There’s no positive outlook. Absolutely none. It’s going to end in a lot of death, a global failure. And most likely, I think, the front will collapse somewhere like it did for the enemy in 2022, in the Kharkiv region.”

Sweden closes Nord Stream sabotage case without result

Prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist announced this at a press conference on Wednesday morning. The German proceedings will nevertheless continue.

Seems like ancient history at this point, but they're still pretending like we don't know who did it.

Edit: Some more tidbits from the Tagesschau on this:

Initially, the states bordering the Baltic Sea investigated separately and did not share all the investigation results with each other. Access to the Swedish evidence is therefore an important step for the German investigators.

The investigators from the BKA and the Federal Police are apparently interested in parts of the severely damaged pipelines that were seized by the Swedish military shortly after the explosions in autumn 2022. The German investigators want to compare the traces of explosives found on the pipes with those they found on the sailing yacht “Andromeda”. According to local investigators, the ship remains the hottest lead that could lead to the assassins.

It's very funny to me that apparently they haven't even shared information to confirm if the explosives are the same. pooh-wtf

It just occurred to me, and I don’t know why it took so long, that the reason the GOP house leadership has been so “principled” about consistently opposing Ukraine funding is because they have traced the blank checks and found that a ton of it is recycled back into the Democratic Party and their allies. It’s purely partisan and about cutting off the unlimited spigot of hundreds of billions of corrupt dollars all going to their rivals, who will then use that money to further take power.

The GOP is being very pragmatic and materialist in obstructing all of government to stop Ukraine funds. Democrats think they are controlled by Putin, GOP members spout some America first isolationist BS they don’t believe (they are fine with other massive imperialist projects such as Israel and Taiwan, just not Ukraine).

Basically, for whatever reason Democrats who engineered Project Ukraine have tried to monopolize the Ukrainian imperialist superprofits for their own partisan allies instead of spreading it around a bit to ensure bipartisan support. That seems like a major fuckup from the Democrats, not inviting in the neocons and petty bourgies to have a slice of the pie.

Journalist and son killed in Israeli air strike

Nafez Abdel Jawad, who worked for Palestine TV, was killed in a bombing of a residential building in the as-Salam neighbourhood in Deir el-Balah in the central Gaza Strip last night.

His only son also died in the air strike and other injuries have been reported. Footage obtained by Al Jazeera shows civil defence and ambulance crews attempting to evacuate victims of the Israeli attack.

More than 122 journalists and media workers have been killed in Gaza since the outbreak of the war in October, according to United Nations reports. UN experts have condemned deadly attacks on journalists and media workers in Gaza
