My upbringing had slightly more nuance. It was like, believing in God gets you into heaven, but if you really believe then you'll do good works as well. It's not the good works that get you to heaven, but without them are you really saved? Then again, most of the people who preached this were pretty devoid of many good works, but ah well.

The book we're supposed to read before taking any tests does say that drivers should do everything they possibly can to avoid hitting a pedestrian. Even if someone walks into the road right in front of you, you don't have the "right" to run them over if you can avoid it. Of course, that's not the mindset of many drivers.
Funny how in this hyper-"woke" world there's still soul-crushing capitalism.
And I think Biden was in decline. Not to excuse anything he did, just as he freezes and jumbled his word. Not shame for being in decline, but maybe don't be the president at that point.
Don't know about Asterix, but Tintin is good for playing MUDs. Has a terminal multiplexing, an auto-mapper, and lots of commands to configure stuff just right. I played a game where I had an input bar, the main window, a chat window, and a map window all in one terminal.
The technician (lowest license level) license is fairly easy if you take some online practice quizzes, or study the old-fashioned way if you want. But you're right, you don't need a license just to listen. A Baofeng handheld radio and maybe an upgraded antenna should be all you need to listen to local repeaters. You can look up your area online and find the frequencies and settings to access them. Transmitting without a license can get you into trouble, but exceptions are made for emergencies.
I did end up getting into ham radio, and one of my motivations was to keep in contact during a weather emergency as we get wild weather this time of year too. Thankfully there's a repeater nearby that talks about the weather and has spotters getting together when severe weather does come. I mostly rely on them these days. I think they are led by NWS staff, but amateurs from all over the area talk on there.
Isn't this what Fox News's The Five is? Dad has it on sometimes when he gets home early enough.
A lot of them have in their mind that Putin is seeking to re-create the USSR. If only!
Conversely, this implies that if the US were to defeat a foreign power, they should expect to be slaves to us. Apparently you either are a slave or a slaver. In no world can we just be equals. Wild idea for the people who think seeing US history as oppressors vs the oppressed is misrepresenting history.
Allowing assisted euthanasia? Sure. Pushing people towards it? How is this not considered outright murder? Or attempted murder?
