Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Ye gods, America, you had four years and an open-and-shut case and it wasn't enough to get rid of the orange ghoul.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 83 points 4 days ago (4 children)

And just watch the neck breaking speed the Republicans rush through their political persecution cases. I expect to see Democrats in prison by the end of the first or second year.

:(

I envy your optimism in choosing years instead of months.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 8 points 4 days ago

All this stuff is going to take years. It will be death by a thousand cuts. The people who are planning this aren't going to risk moving too fast where constituents of blue states beg for secession.

[–] Mirshe@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I envy their optimism at claiming they'll end up in prison over a grave.

[–] EldritchFeminity@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I don't expect the party to still exist 365 days from now.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 7 points 3 days ago

Don't get my hopes up like that! I can't take another upset right now lol

[–] kandoh@reddthat.com 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Schiff won his new senate seat. It'll be interesting to see if they go after a sitting senator

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 13 points 4 days ago

I don't see why they wouldn't. They'll say "we" went after a sitting president with impeachment so they'll go after anyone and everyone with the fascist cheerleaders on Fox pushing for the death penalty (which they're already doing).

For what? What crimes can actually be proven in court?

[–] blockheadjt@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

Have you been living under a rock?

[–] Aermis@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

I wonder how hard you need to prove anything if the judges issue sentencing without needing much of anything.

[–] hydrospanner@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Implying anything needs to be proven in court when the judge is a Trump appointee.

Hitler went to jail. What good did it serve the Germans?

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Yea, guess we shouldn’t even try. What’s your point?

[–] wildncrazyguy138@fedia.io 3 points 2 days ago

My point is that fascism builds until the root causes and those fanning its flames are rooted out and destroyed ala Napoleon, Mussolini, Hitler; or they burn on and continue to oppress under an authoritarian like Franco, Pinochet or Putin. There aren’t a whole lot of examples in between where an authoritarian relinquishes power after a short term.

I know which one I prefer, and, from example, we can see a little jail time is insufficient.

Shitlibs love making excuses for accepting a tiered "justice" system, they have no points, they just love the taste of boot.

Ya, he was 78 years old when he went to jail Einstein.
