Saw an acquaintance on hinge and sent them a message. They messaged me back and I don't really know what to do. We already have each other on signal and see each other around every now and then so it's not like I'll lose all contact if I don't get back to them. I think they're very interesting, intelligent, and attractive and would love to go out with them but no idea how to approach that. The message I sent was a comment on one of their pictures. Basically, "Hey, this picture is kind of scary lol" and they responded with "Haha, yeah I think so too". No idea how to proceed from here with my
brain.
You can only message if you both liked each other right? Please do not do the thing where you both like each other but neither makes a move
I have no idea how to talk to people on dating apps. I was in a very long relationship until just a few years ago and never really dated. Every relationship I've been in since has evolved from being friends first. I have no experience making moves via text.
I was in a long relationship too! 11 years. Ask them out on a date and explicitly say its a date. Pick whatever, you know them better than I do - movie, mini golf, coffee, whatever.
why does it being on a dating app matter? just strike normal conversation and see where things go. be confident & interesting and if the vibes are right a lil flirty.
that's what I'd do but I've never been on the apps so ๐คทโโ๏ธ
It's mainly a lack of social skills due to never dating the way most people do combined with autism. Being social in a situation where I can't see or hear the person is really difficult unless I know them extremely well. I'm always worrying that I'll say something stupid and fuck it up.
I'm autistic too and i know exactly what you mean; I matched with my current girlfriend a year ago on a dating app and chatted with her. We had met once at the gym so I thought she was just being nice you know? I ended up deleting my account and the app.
I tried again a few weeks ago and matched her again and this time i actually figured it out and that she was interested. (it still took a couple days though)
I have found that 'would you like to get coffee sometime?' is pretty safe but if there's no flirting you might end up in the same position at the coffee shop. But you'll be in the position to see and hear them at least!
