"Okay, sooooo...with no tax revenue or money, zero education, and no energy.......that's still a country somehow right? How does this work????"

[–] NegativeInf@lemmy.world 46 points 1 year ago (5 children)

Doesn't DoE like do nuclear shit?

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 37 points 1 year ago (2 children)

They also inform the nation's energy policies, meaning taking responsibility for federally funded energy transportation and coordination.

That and more. They have a mandate for nuclear nonproliferation, but it’s more accurate to think of them as America’s R&D lab. The National Labs are fucking incredible! They are so much more than the DoD’s innovation lab. They do a ton of research that isn’t possible for the private sector. They also own and make available equipment that is difficult for individuals to maintain for example: Fermilabs has a particular accelerator, Sandia has the Z machine and a MEMS foundry, and Oak Ridge has one of the most powerful supercomputers and several labs focusing on neutron and nuclear power. Fuck just look up the patents and Nobel Prizes for Lawrence Livermore, Argonne, and Los Alamos. Yes there is a ton of nuclear but they cover so much more. They’re amazing and a national treasure!

Feudalism. We already live in a system of neo digital feudalism where you own nothing. DeSatan master of the Dick Handle state is aiming to bridge our digital and analog feudal future faster than it is happening without him.

Guaranteed he has no idea what the department of energy does.

[–] DigitalTraveler42@lemm.ee 81 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

DeSantis is a Harvard law school grad and Navy lawyer, he absolutely has an idea what all of those governmental entities do, this is just him and the GOP trying to normalize the fascistic accumulation of power, step one of becoming a dictatorship.

Also this is the GOP's plan to do exactly that:

Project 2025

https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/conservatives-aim-to-restructure-u-s-government-and-replace-it-with-trumps-vision

It's just a step by step to purge the government, then whatever else, of undesirables while making an effort to destroy our government one piece at a time. Fascistic Libertarian hellscape here we come! (Also this is nothing new from them, just more open fascism)

[–] orcrist@lemm.ee 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

You can have an advanced degree and still be ignorant about totally relevant facts. It's actually easier if you're ignorant about those facts, because you're more likely to believe the things you say that don't make sense.

I think you've accurately listed a lot of correct information, especially about the well-known plan that the GOP has been pushing for decades, but we shouldn't assume that the guy has knowledge about slightly obscure topics. I mean really, how many Americans actually looked into what the Department of Energy does?

No idea what DoC does either, clearly. This is the problem with these people- no idea WTF they're talking about and nobody holds them to account for that.

[–] earlgrey0@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 year ago

Most people don’t and it makes me sad. Our National Labs are fucking treasures but so few people know how much of an impact they have on our technology and lives.

[–] ViewSonik@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago

Yeah.. same exact thought when I read the article.

Reaganomics was a horrendous failure for this country, and nearly 50 years later here we are with Republicans pushing those policies again on the American people.

What DeSatan is talking about is a continuation of Reagan's terrible "Starve the Beast" policies.

Starve the Beast is a plan by conservatives to reduce funding for various government departments and programs to a level below which those entities can function properly. Salaries and equipment cost money. Below a certain level, you can't do your job properly. And that's what Republicans have been pushing for a few decades now. Cut funding for programs, and then claim those same programs aren't doing their job properly, and use that as the excuse to kill off those programs altogether.

It is a self fulfilling prophecy all so big business and the ultra rich can pollute more, hide their real wealth from taxes, and make our children dumb enough that future generations willingly vote Republican.

as president i promise to dismantle the whole government

[–] Filthmontane@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago

It's more that he wants to destroy the regulatory systems that prevent companies from doing anything they want. This is a big step for fascism. Hitler and Mussolini both deregulated the markets and privatized everything they could. Fascism is simply Capitalism run rampant. After that they usually invade another country and create a slave labor force, which is why he wants to "go to war with the cartels."

So no federal taxes; education; or commerce regulation?

Because that's going to end well.

[–] BeautifulMind@lemmy.world 33 points 1 year ago (3 children)

So basically the plan is to restore the late 1800s and be ruled by corporate barons

[–] VonCesaw@lemmy.world 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I've seen over 200 PragerU videos and they literally believe that it was a better time back then, and would actively invite a lower quality of average life if it meant they could execute the gays/asians/blacks

This is the problem with a party whose entire political platform is to prove that government doesn't work. It wants dysfunction.

[–] TwoGems@lemmy.world 32 points 1 year ago (2 children)

So he'd make the USA into a non-functional country? Sounds about right.

"Folks, I'm just gonna show up at your door, burn your house down, and claim the land. There are too many regulations, and quite honestly, you don't deserve them." -The next guy to up the ante.

Thunderous applause from the gomers

Good luck with infrastructure when you stop collecting taxes. What a clown.

[–] onionbaggage@lemmynsfw.com 25 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Yeah, but you have the charisma of a wet saltine so...

[–] Krackalot@discuss.tchncs.de 19 points 1 year ago

Come on now, that's not fair, if a wet saltine was my only food, I would choose it over starving. If DeSantis was the only candidate I could put on the ballot, I wouldn't vote.

I love how even his childish simplistic plan was over thought. Why get rid of all of them when the IRS will single handedly kill the country if eliminated. That military budget that gets R's so hard goes bye bye.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 22 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

IRS. From the party of law and order.

And with the others, if there was any doubt it should now be crystal clear this is the party of burn it all down.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 15 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And, fiscal responsibility!

[–] Poggervania@kbin.social 12 points 1 year ago

It hasn’t been the party of law and order for decades at this point.

Nixon showed the cracks, Reagan opened the floodgates, and the Twice-Impeached One showed how far they can push people.

[–] Asimo@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago

So his job is to look so bad that trump seems reasonable?

But if it gets support, also yay?

Russia/China are clearly playing the games the UK and the USA have around the world back on them.

[–] Grant_M@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 year ago

Democracy is a nuisance for the fascist RW

[–] PeepinGoodArgs@reddthat.com 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

And that's partially why he's so far behind Trump: because he's exceptionally stupid and can't read the room.

[–] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 12 points 1 year ago

Shhhh. Hes brilliant and should keep telling the general public what they plan to do to make their lives incredibly worse, lol.

[–] Snekeyes@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Lol. This guy

The aim is to starve out communities that rely on it, and sic the military on dissenters
