MODERATORS

On this day, 4 years ago the site was first launched (then a day later the first post made), Formed from chapotraphouse remnants, the old admins decided to make a site using Lemmy as its base. Originally called chapo.chat, Hexbear has grown into one of the biggest instances in the lemmyverse.

Despite various sitewide struggle sessions, wrecker incursions from other forums and federation drama, Hexbear has keep growing strong in its 4th year, now with 4 megathreads, over 4 million comments, 300k posts and much more.

Its being great running the general megathread for a bit over 3 years, since i took over i have tried to get it mostly in time and just one unlike during the old times, i like to think i have done a decent job, plus i have also added a bit of reading material to them so you nerds can learn from them and i like to think you have been reading them garcia-cock-shotty, its also nice to see the new megathreads how they have slowing grown up to the size to the old general mega in the time of the old admins.

dont have much else to say so have a good day nerd. also

Whats has been your favorite post/event from last year (july 2023-july 2024)?

I wont lie, all the fedidrama has been fun to read, especially when libs wander here

I got fucking WHOOPING COUGH, my dudes!

I haven't gotten the results back from the swab test but the cough I have is UNMISTAKABLE and very unique and it's gotta be. I am an infant, apparently.

I really should start asking my clients to wear masks in my office; this shit is so gross

Not a fan of Kopala, but it is funny watching all these right ring spaces fall into misogynistic angst over the slightest possibility of a female president.

A shitty kop witha proven record of slavery, torture, abuse of power, and violent contempt for the poor? They should be thrilled, they win either way!

I was at a coffee shop this morning, and the barista asked the lady for her name on the cup and she said β€œKamala”. The white lady in front of me shouted β€œYou go girl!”. The line started cheering. The whole coffee shop was clapping. A man wearing a MAGA hat threw it to the ground mumbling slurs under his breath as he left.

I hate this town

I think you could describe Connor O'Malley's stuff as having a sort of Midwestern Gothic bent. There's a strong sense of regionality (fucking Rod Blagojevich turns up in the "Fuck Coin" video), and his style feels very influenced by the southern gothic undercurrent a lot of early Adult Swim stuff had going on.

My cousin told me something really sweet today. We're both in our 40s. He's very into classic rock, and I also still love the bands I grew up listening to. What I didn't know until tonight is that one day when we were about 11 years old, he was over at our house and I played my dad's Abbey Road cassette, and he was totally floored! Before that, he'd only heard pre-65 Beatles, and he had no idea how much their sound changed. So he was talking about what a big impact that moment had on him and all the music he discovered after that. It was a really cool memory to share with my cousin!

I literally missed both the trans pronoun and vegan struggle sessions as I was too busy with work. Probably good I missed the former, my thinking had not yet developed on this matter.

[–] ashinadash@hexbear.net 17 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Sorry, but the trans mega will soon be subsuming the entire site. All megas will be trans megas in future sicko-lea

Recently I have seen instances of revisionism where users claim UlyssesT was a "bad poster". Such perverse liberalism will not be tolerated.

Someone in another group I work with got promoted to manager. I thought they were already a manager because they don't really do anything, but I guess there's always the possibility to do less.

I love reading the history in the megathreads, thank you for taking the time to write these up and educate us!

My favorite post/event was when UlyssesT left to go kill Kissinger. I miss reading his rants against treats, but I also really like that Kissinger is dead.

It's pretty interesting that in English the word for "translate" (from one language to another) means moving from one place to another, but for example Chinese and Finnish use words relating to rotation instead, the opposite of translation. Do any languages use a metaphor for reflection or dilation for this?
