I know right? The Dreamcast was awesome.

There’s a non-zero chance that Tim Walz still has his VMUs.

Walz likes video games? Like a third of the entire planet does? What a weirdo, so unrelatable.

[–] ByteOnBikes@slrpnk.net 58 points 3 weeks ago

188.9 million Americans are gamers. What a stupidly broad attack.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 194 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (13 children)

Walz is the guy who will join your 3 man group in Phantasy Star Online at 2 AM to go take down Dark Falz.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 54 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

Walz manages to save your quarter from getting stuck behind the frame for the top display of the arcade cabinet, and lets you have next.

The fact that’s it was the Dreamcast of all consoles puts so much respect on it tbh.

[–] FarmTaco@lemmy.world 56 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

you just know this man was up all night playing phantasy star online with that wide ass dreamcast keyboard

The republicans really, really do hate being called weird, don’t they.

[–] Revan343@lemmy.ca 98 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Conservatives value conformity; they think they are 'normal', and that being 'normal' is by definition good. Pointing out how fucking weird they are hits them where it hurts

they're trying so hard to turn it around. just listen to anything they say nowadays; it either involves calling democrats or leftists weird, or calling what they do normal.

this is why this word is more potent than anything you could say about them. say they're fascists and draconian, they wear that as a badge of honor. fascists love being feared, fearsomeness is the refuge of the pathetic.

but they can't handle being called weird. the entire conservative mindset is about how a set of nonsense beliefs and traditions are "normal" and everyone who doesn't align with that is degenerate. that's what they're conserving after all, the "normal". once that's turned around and everybody agrees that they're the weird ones they lose their fucking minds.

so now they're trying to call everything the democrats do weird. they're so desperate.

[–] Dagwood222@lemm.ee 48 points 3 weeks ago

This guy gets it.

They took "deplorable" as a badge of honor because "deplorable" is a term a high school teacher would use to describe the cool kids who smoke and hang out.

"Weird" is a term the cool kids would use to describe Barbie Bible and her farm boy buddies.

Wow! They're really struggling to attack him! He's gotta be squeaky clean if this is the best they can do!

I despise Republicans so much. Bro your candidate is a rapist insurrectionist who spent all day in the White House watching TV. Now he's using Twitter's AI to make fake images of himself being popular.

Glad being called "weird" is enraging them this bad, though.

[–] Daxtron2@startrek.website 93 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

No charlie, that's not that weird. In fact it happens all the time.

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 37 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

With normal people at least.

I'm really sick of the age thing when it comes to gaming. Tons of middle-aged and older men spend hours watching sportsball every week, but nobody gives them shit.

[–] MashedTech@lemmy.world 43 points 3 weeks ago

HE WAS WATCHING SO MUCH SPORTS AND GETTING SO DRUNK HIS WIFE HAD TO UNPLUG THE TV AND THROW THE BEER IN THE TRASH. Isn't that quirky and relatable? Dare I say demure?

This just makes me respect him more.

Dreamcast was a fantastic console, but it didn't have much success in the US due to poor marketing decisions.

The fact that Waltz recognized its value back then shows good judgement IMO.

I don't find that anecdote weird, but I do find searching through the life events of some politician to find things to signify that he's weird to be creepy and fucking weird.

But that's par for the course for you, Chuckie, you fucking balloon headed weirdo. Get a real job you mutant potato.

Theory: every single American conservative man is completely weird when it comes to their opinions on women.

Kirk:

According to Media Matters, at the TPUSA Young Women's Leadership Summit 2022 Conference, Kirk said that the "biblical model" for women to pursue in romantic relationships is a partner who is "a protector and a leader, and deep down, a vast majority of you agree" and that "if you want to go meet conservative men that have their act together, that aren't like, woke beta men, like, start a Turning Point USA chapter, you'll meet a lot of them."[91]

Kirk has advocated for parents to never let their daughters receive prescriptions for birth control medication for any reason. He claimed that the medication makes women angry and bitter, which he alleged suited the political leanings of the Democratic Party. (Via Wikipedia).

Theory confirmed.

He supports a criminal who openly lusts for his own daughter.

But please, tell me how too much video games is the issue here.

Imagine:

You enjoy your hobbies. And you have a good enough relationship with your spouse that you’re able to keep each other accountable in simple small ways.

What a weird way to live!

Way to lose the gamer vote, Trump

If this is real I smell a “Gamers for Waltz” fundraiser soon

[–] LustyArgonianMana@lemmy.world 54 points 3 weeks ago (7 children)

Walz should host a Twitch stream

Kirk should be very careful about accusing anyone of being weird, a liar or a racist - those are qualities he has on his own resume.

I already like Walz you don't have to sell me on him.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 63 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

That is quite the laboured attempt at insulting Walz. Like the worst thing you can say about him is that he, like so many humans, got hooked on a video game? You're really not finding anything on this guy, Republicans, you fucking weirdos.

I'd say the story shows more character than anything.

Meaning "This politician sometimes knows how to realize when they're obsessed with something and will take steps to make sure they back off of it".

I like when politicians have functioning frontal lobes and can self-moderate. Usually it makes them far less extremist, or likely to be extreme in their viewpoints.

[–] paddirn@lemmy.world 54 points 3 weeks ago

With each new revelation, Walz gets better and more relatable, while Vance gets creepier and weirder. It must be tough for the Republican strategists having to come up with attacks against Walz when this is the kind of material they have to work with.

[–] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 50 points 3 weeks ago

Tinyface McGhee is trying to dictate who is weird? Talk about pure deflection. That clown is basically in a villain group for talentless weirdos (along with Ben Shapiro, Candace Owens, Tomi Lahren, Matt Walsh, and Steven Chowder).

And after all the weird shit Kirk and company have pushed over the years, they are gonna have to do a lot better than Walz being hooked on playing a games console.

[–] Angry_Autist@lemmy.world 48 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

As a lifelong gamer pushing my 5th decade, I think rednecks that beat their wives after watching their team lose at sportsball is a hell of a lot more cringe than a guy with a hobby.

It was reported as a fun relatable story because that is what is was. If he was completely addicted to the dreamcast demon machine would he have been able to be a soldier? A teacher? A governor? Nah, I didn't think so, Charlie. You're just making him more cool and relatable for the voters. This fucking guy.

Bumping up on 50 here. I'll be playing something or other before bed tonight, maybe PC maybe PS5... who knows, but it will be fun... and it will actually be IN BED... and in the background will probably be the DNC nomination acceptance speech. It isn't weird, it is relatable...

Also, if he was playing Soulcalibur on Dreamcast then who can blame him. That was one of the few games my attention span actually pushed through from start to finish.

I've never been a GQ model, but I've not yet understood how someone who literally looks like Butthead has become such a focus. I feel like I missed out on being a pundit.

Anyway, my Saturn crawled so that the Dreamcast could fly.

[–] ChillPenguin@lemmy.world 36 points 3 weeks ago

The stuff they say is cringe af. They try SO HARD.

[–] umbraroze@lemmy.world 36 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

They attacked gamers.
Gamers.

(I don't remember how the rest of the copypasta goes, because I'm a leftist video game enjoyer and try to distance myself from Gamers®.)

That said this probably won't go anywhere. In the Gamergate days the right wingers kept outright insulting Gamers® and the Gamers® just did some mental gymnastics. Political literacy among Gamers® has gone to even deeper depths since.

Are they weirded out that he didn't beat her like a conservative man would if his wife did that? And are they going to pretend there aren't countless women fed up with their manchildren conservative husbands?
