At least 239 election deniers have signed up to Trump’s ‘election integrity’ conspiracy theories, survey finds

Fears are rising that the vote count in November’s presidential election could be disrupted as a result of the proliferation of Donald Trump’s lies about stolen elections and rampant voter fraud in the key swing states where the race for the White House will be decided.

A new survey of eight vital swing states reveals that at least 239 election deniers who have signed up to Trump’s “election integrity” conspiracy theories – including the false claim that the 2020 election was rigged against him – are actively engaged in electoral battles this year. The deniers are standing for congressional or state seats, holding Republican leadership positions, and overseeing elections on state and county election boards.

The report by the Center for Media and Democracy (CMD), a watchdog group focusing on special interests distorting US democracy, reveals the extent of denial in the eight critical states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. It shows that corrosive efforts to damage public confidence in elections have proliferated there despite the drubbing the election denial movement received in the 2022 midterms.

Solution seems simple to me: get rid of the freakin' electoral college.

That way, if there was massive voter fraud (spoiler: there's not), it would have to be carried out nationwide (and be heavily diluted in the process) rather than focused on 8 well-known weak points we call 'swing states'

The electoral college is ass but getting rid of it would actually make the specific problem you're describing worse. If the election were decided by popular vote then the margins change but so do the attack vectors. Now instead of being forced to successfully change votes in multiple locations in multiple swing states you can potentially alter the outcome by changing the tallies in one highly populated county. Doing something like that once is a lot easier than doing it 8 times simultaneously.

I still think getting rid of the EC is a good idea but we should make sure we fully understand what that means.

If most counties are like 53-47, 55-45, maybe even 65-35, having one county where it is like 90-10 will be dead obvious manipulation.

If I've learned anything from the Trump years it's that it does not matter what is obvious, it only matters what the courts will act on. Once those votes are tallied and the final results are submitted the outcome isn't changing, especially if the manipulation benefits conservatives. And let's be real, that's the only scenario in which this has a realistic chance of happening.

Hey. Hey - member, member in early January 2021 when trump was all like "I totally won, everone come destroy the Capitol for me!" and a bunch of Qanut hicks were, like, crying "sir! yes sir, sir!" And loaded up their bazookas and three-sided daggers and mall ninja shit and left work on a Wednesday to go to DC and perform The Stupidest Coup in History?

And member how everone saw that and was like "holy shit this motherfucker is calling for a coup right there in DC in front of little baby Jesus and everybody"?

And member how the corporate news was like "SOME fear that trump may be planning some sort of disruption, but the FBI trump controls says everything's fiiiine" member that?

And then, right, and then he's all up there in his little glass box with his gross high squeaky voice going "everyone kill! Attaaaaaaack!" and all the MAGA nutjob hicks are wagging their little guns going "hoo hooo hoo hoo we big" and member the corporate news was like "trump seems to be making some statements that DEMOCRATS feel are incendiary and THEY SAY there could be some trouble down at the Mill!"

Member all that goddamned obvious stupid fucked up shit?

Here we go again. This article is just one of many like it - "Maybe" "could" "Fears raise" "warning" etc. etc.

Here we go again. This article is just one of many like it - “Maybe” “could” “Fears raise” “warning” etc. etc.

A-fucking-men!

All this if if if is fucking insane!

I get they need to be "impartial" but there's no way in hell this is "if" or "maybe" it's fucking plan B! Plan A is just win of course, but this is their actual plan.

I'm normally a pessimistic person so take this with a grain of salt, but I have absolutely 0 hope that we actually win this. I'm 100% convinced the fix is already in.

Still vote! But I completely expect Trump to be handed the election...

This has been being prepared by Republicans for a very long time, out loud and obviously, and democrats have done functionally fuck-all about it. They continue to be blind to someone "not following the rules."

Everyone has known this would happen for three last 3 years. Have the dems done anything at all?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 26 points 5 days ago

Well, yeah. That's their plan.

[–] Snapz@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

Don't be afraid, plan for the eventuality.

Dang, if only someone warned about how unstable and un representative the USAs elections are since they vest the deciding factor to a small handful of states whos own state government is shakey at best.

[–] Asafum@feddit.nl 16 points 5 days ago

I literally just posted comments in 2 other threads expressing this concern.

I absolutely expect if Trump "loses" he'll not only have lost the popular vote, he'll have lost the electoral college vote, but they'll refuse to certify to solidify that fact and he'll "win" by ratfuckery. Having the election tossed to state votes which the Republicans have the majority of...

I don't expect Trump to lose this election no matter what happens...

Still vote of course. But y'all better riot when they pull this shit. And unlike J6 crybabies, do it knowing it's civil disobedience and that we'd deserve the jail time we'd get. Expect it, it's the "right" thing to do.

[–] Badeendje@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Lot of people gonna end up in jail with actual election interference charges. And since all these voting places have cameras it will be easy to prove. I'd also suggest all election workers and security have bodycams for the day..

[–] Professorozone@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I don't think you are aware of how this works. If Trump wins, stolen or not, no one on his side gets prosecuted and the video from those cameras was doctored; fake! Look at the cases against him that have been dropped since the supreme Court ruling saying he has limited immunity.

[–] Badeendje@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

Yeah.. if he wins it will be horrible. The US will go down a dark path and I fear they will drag the whole world with them.
