Jackass star Steve-O has shared on why he changed his mind on getting breast implants, which he first announced in July was part of a series of planned pranks.

The stunt would have involved Steve-O getting his "whole body waxed", with all his tattoos removed via airbrush, and losing weight to "get really slender and petite". Steve-O would then attend a motorcycle rally attempting to capture "big gangs of motorcycle riders" checking him out before he reveals his real identity. "I would walk up to pull off my helmet and say, 'Yeah, dude,' and get this crazy reaction, which, predictably, would be contentious," he shares.

It was this part of the plan that the person Steve-O spoke with found troubling – as the act of deliberately tricking men into thinking he's a woman was planned so he could get footage of being "beaten up at the motorcycle rally", which he previously explained in July is part of doing a "funny endurance" stunt.

“The show still has a bunch of really good comedy from that whole episode. And the extent to which I was prepared to go through with that is hilarious in its own right.”

No, it's not. It's fucking unhinged, jackass.

However, at the time, Steve-O was still determined to see through the ambitious and controversial stunt. It was a conversation he had with a transgender grocery worker that caused him to rethink it.

“On the day that the scheduled surgery was supposed to happen, I was checking out at the supermarket,” he tells Consequence. “And the person ringing up my groceries was evidently transgender, and it struck me as a sign from the universe. So I asked the transgender person if I could run something by them, and I had a conversation with this person that had a profound impact on me.”

sis like, this trans grocery store worker was not expecting to be fucking steve-o's therapist that day what the hell

In terms of cis people seeing a visibly trans person and deciding to asking them random questions, this is way less intrusive than some of the common ones

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 86 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

yeah its not a good vibe to get clocked and be pulled aside by some famous guy but that was probably one of the least bad things he couldve asked her i guess oh-shit

[–] jack@hexbear.net 51 points 3 months ago (1 children)

And he took it seriously! Trans hero crazy-frog-trans

Jesus Christ is that how low the bar is?

[–] MusicOwl@hexbear.net 28 points 3 months ago

A lot of the times, yes.

[–] Diuretic_Materialism@hexbear.net 81 points 3 months ago (2 children)

"Okay should I shove a model train up my ass instead then?"

"Well, I don't see how me being trans is relevant to that question, but yeah probably."

Just reminds me of how many transphobes have literally never met a(n open) trans person.

[–] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 28 points 3 months ago

My mother is politically transphobic, but she like best friends with all my LGBT friends and it's weird. Like when she actually has to interface with people she is lovely and accepting, but the second Tucker Carlson says something she just accepts it without contrasting it with her lived experience.

[–] ElGosso@hexbear.net 49 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I mean, imagine you're just at your job at the grocery store and a dude who made a living out of stapling his ballsack to his leg asks you if his idea is transphobic.

[–] chickentendrils@hexbear.net 33 points 3 months ago (1 children)

who knows he mightve just reconsidered last min and needs to play it off

The anesthesiologist backed out. He's using the conversation to make this more profound.

The surgery was supposed to happen at eight in the morning. And 10 pm the night before, I got a call that the anesthesiologist backed out of it, because he found out that it was me doing it as a stunt.

[–] Belly_Beanis@hexbear.net 80 points 3 months ago (2 children)

You can still get beat up at a motorcycle rally, Steve. Just wear some Clinton 2016 merch and drape yourself in a soviet flag.

[–] invalidusernamelol@hexbear.net 52 points 3 months ago (2 children)

You could show up with a DPRK flag or a Cuban flag and see how long it takes for them to realize it's not Tennessee or Texas

[–] buh@hexbear.net 51 points 3 months ago (1 children)

we salute the red, white, and blue 🇰🇵 🇨🇺 07

[–] ped_xing@hexbear.net 21 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Knowing more than 3 flags is nerdery to a chud. Even if one realized what flag you were carrying, they'd have to weigh the possibility of getting punched and being told to "shut up, nerd" after announcing it. I think you'd stand a good chance of going home safely.

What about showing up to a truck show with a custom communism themed monster truck called, "THE MEANS OF DESTRUCTION"?

Never ceases to amaze me though that Steve-O, of all people in that group, turned out to be the most grounded.

I don't know if any of the others would even care to ask or listen to the trans worker at a grocery store.

[–] Acute_Engles@hexbear.net 59 points 3 months ago

I came here to say something similar stevo destroyed himself with drugs and the various stunts they did if I can give anybody a pass on not being great on some issues it's him. In the same vein the fact that he did decide against it goes to show there is humanity inside him.

I understand that it's a bit of apologia but seriously the guy's been through a lot

He isn’t a bad person, he’s just a massive idiot. Many such cases.

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 64 points 3 months ago

With apparently more introspection than many Americans despite extensive brain damage

[–] HumanBehaviorByBjork@hexbear.net 43 points 3 months ago (1 children)

i would argue that the driving force of his artistic practice is that he's a massive idiot

[–] CarmineCatboy2@hexbear.net 20 points 3 months ago

wish i could monetize that side of mine too

what the fuck what-the-hell

I thought he was going to do something like, skateboard tricks, and then say to the camera "woah dude look at the booba jiggle!"

[–] GarbageShoot@hexbear.net 88 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Watch this sick prank where I take hormones for a year and get top surgery, it'll totally trick those guys!

[–] buh@hexbear.net 75 points 3 months ago (2 children)

pranking everyone in your life by revealing that you were pretending to be a guy for decades

[–] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 33 points 3 months ago

awarding steve-o the "one guy (?) I wouldn't put it past" award here, no matter how problematic

[–] anarchoilluminati@hexbear.net 22 points 3 months ago

He came off as an alright guy, just a bit of a meat head.

A jackass if you will.

is this trans-egg ?

[–] CarmineCatboy2@hexbear.net 52 points 3 months ago

'it is extremely important for the show that i get breast implants. temporarily of course.'

[–] Objection@lemmy.ml 39 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

Omg guys I just got this idea for a prank it would be so funny I'd like trans my gender and get breast implants and like wax my legs and stuff and I would become like, really slender and petite and I'd go to like a motorcycle rally with all these big burly guys and they'd all start coming on to me because I'd be so attractive and feminine and everybody would think I'm a hot girl but then I'd be like, "Surprise!" in a really deep voice and they'd all get really mad and beat me up and it would be sooo funny right guys?

Guys?

Like, what makes it funny is that I'm not trans (obviously), but like, hypothetically I bet I could pass if I got some surgeries done, don't you think? By the way, I was thinking about what name I should use for this prank, if I give you my top five do you think you could help me narrow it down?

[–] StalinStan@hexbear.net 53 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I kinda thought steeve-o was questioning his gender identity as framing it as a prank as an excuse to do it.

He strikes me as a person that always hated society, their body, and rules. This seems like a reasonably GenX way to be an egg.

Having cocaine balloons explode in your ass can do a lot to change a man.

So he understands the violence that trans people face, but wanted to provoke it intentionally as a joke? Please don’t let the TERFs see this they’re gonna have a field day about a cis man literally planning to pretend to be a woman to the point where he was getting breast implants.

[–] reaper_cushions@hexbear.net 34 points 3 months ago (1 children)

His entire career is based on doing stupid and dangerous things whilst afflicting maximum damage to himself for laughs. Like, that’s his entire thing.

[–] TheDoctor@hexbear.net 32 points 3 months ago

I’m not saying it’s not on brand. If there’s anyone who’d get top surgery for the bit, it’s him.

I'm surprised Steve-O didn't die years ago due to some horrific yet hilarious stunt.

[–] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 20 points 3 months ago (1 children)

To be honest, this is more than I expected from someone who was part of Jackass. Didn't one of them give themselves brain damage from one of their stunts?

[–] StalinStan@hexbear.net 25 points 3 months ago

Most of them probably. If not from the stunts from the drugs. Although several of them have spoken about being queer in a way you would growing up having grown up in massively queerphobic times.
