I think they definitely prey upon the "negative engagement is still engagement" phenomenon. YT's recommendation and search algorithm is really screwed up, it used to be much worse a few years ago. YT used to show dead bodies and other strange things when I was trying to just find some funny videos. I think it stopped recently, but what was that? And it also showed legit hentai and hardcore eroguro videos when I searched for something in Japanese or Chinese.
