Robert F Kennedy Jr appears with Republican candidate, while congressman promotes state constitutional amendment to disqualify non-citizens from voting

At a Wisconsin rally on Friday, Donald Trump called Kamala Harris a “low-IQ person” and vowed to save the economy “from total obliteration” in a 1.5 hour-long meandering speech that touched on top campaign issues including the economy and foreign policy – but also featured threats to curb press freedoms and a lengthy discussion of his own rhetorical style.

On immigration, Trump’s message was characteristically dark. The campaign played a painful video of a mother describing her daughter’s murder and blaming Harris for allowing the accused to enter the US without authorization. Studies overwhelmingly refute Trump’s claim that immigrants are disproportionately responsible for crime in the US, but such claims are a feature of his campaign.

"We are a nation of many nationalities, many races, many religions-bound together by a single unity, the unity of freedom and equality. Whoever seeks to set one nationality against another, seeks to degrade all nationalities." ~ Franklin D. Roosevelt

"FDR was such a loser. I could definitely have beat him in golf." ~ Trump, probably

"Only a loser needs to use a wheelchair. I like presidents who had working legs."

"I bet he has a high handicap"

Too clever for such a stupid man to come up with. Your throwaway joke while taking a shit is beyond his capabilities.

[–] Johnmannesca@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Can confirm, Abbot is definitely a loser. Talarico 2026 FTW

[–] gnate@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago

He probably couldn't have, though. Not without cheating.

Jason Tyler, a Republican activist who attended the Milwaukee rally, said he was worried about non-citizens voting illegally in the presidential election. Tyler plans to volunteer as a poll observer in Rock county on election day, where he said he will be looking for non-US citizens casting ballots. “My biggest thing I would be looking for is if somebody can’t speak English and start there,” said Tyler, who acknowledged that the bar for challenging a ballot is high enough in Wisconsin that he would not likely succeed in preventing a voter from casting a ballot.

“It’s very difficult – the only thing that I can really do is I can ask for their information, you know, find out who they are, and I can report that, if I felt that there was something weird about it,” said Tyler. “I can’t really tell that person not to vote.”

Tyler added that he’s frustrated with the idea that Trump’s inflammatory comments about immigrants are racist. “It’s ridiculous,” said Tyler, adding that his wife came to the US from the Philippines. “She loves Donald Trump.”

What a tired plot.

If anybody other than the poll worker asks me for my information when I go vote I'll make sure to let them know that they are more than welcome to go fuck themselves.

Say dee na-hooy. It's just that in russian. They'd probably recognize it (:

[–] teft@lemmy.world 32 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I’m starting to think this trump guy might be a racist.

[–] MrVilliam@lemmy.world 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Welp, better late than never.

I would love to be proven wrong, but I'm not sure there's anything in our wildest dreams that could snap anybody in his base out of their trance at this point. What line is there that he hasn't already crossed?

[–] teft@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (2 children)

Honestly I don't get it either. You'd have had to have blinders on for years to not see what a shit person he is.

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

I had a neighbor, 92 years old, who I was helping out by driving her around and buying stuff for her. Took her to the ER a couple times. She has since passed away.

We rarely talked politics. She watched Fox News just about all day. She asked me why I didn't like Trump. I kept it simple, I said he lies all the time about everything he speaks about.

Her reply- "When has he ever lied?"

It's pointless.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

May we come in and rattle on fairly endlessly about our religion for which there has always been zero proof?

[–] haulyard@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago (7 children)

Can someone help with data refuting immigrants as source of crime? I’ve got a family member who believes this and I’m trying to come with an objective response.

[–] originalfrozenbanana@lemm.ee 26 points 2 weeks ago

The FBI uniform crime report is fairly authoritative, but you should prepare yourself that this person can’t be convinced by reality. https://www.politifact.com/article/2024/sep/27/whats-behind-recent-false-claims-about-immigrants/

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.world 11 points 2 weeks ago

It should be common sense. If you're here illegally, why would you commit crime that will certainly get you departed if caught? The consequences for undocumented immigrants for even minor crimes are so much higher than for citizens.

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I’m not sure I can offer any links but the information is absolutely out there. You should also look into rates of policing in different neighbourhoods and, since they care so much about corruption, point how much white-collar financial crime and stuff is done by white dudes.

But most importantly you gotta understand that they didn’t get there by following logic and it will be very difficult to use objectivity to pull them out an argument where being objective is not important to them.

[–] haulyard@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Appreciate it, and the warning too. This family member and I had a long chat through the early morning hours recently. We had civil exchange of differing ideas and concerns, and both agreed we would pick our top three problems on our mind for the election and research them together over the weekend. I have to give it a shot.

Illegal immigration and crime is one of their big items, so trying to learn more.

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh sick! That’s at least a great place to start and Imm excited for you! I hope it goes well :)

[–] haulyard@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Well they ended up going from trump to no-vote. Feels bitter sweet, but the upside is we still had very constructive conversations and I’m taking that as a win.

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

Hell yea! That’s something! Ultimately no one can be deprogrammed in a day and that’s a solid start. Most of these people have been driven by fear for so long that just getting them to admit Trump is also a danger is a big step out of the hole they’re in.

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

So happy you can have legitimate discussion with your family.

We have some dear friends coming over tonight who have been sucked into voting for Trump over immigration. I'm under orders from my wife that I am not to talk politics and ruin the night.

[–] PriorityMotif@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

You can only really measure crimes that are both known and prosecuted. If you know something was stolen and you don't know who did it, then you can't say a certain group is responsible. You can also say that blacks and Latinos are disproportionately scrutinized. They'll show up on crime statistics more than say rich white business owners.

[–] ProIsh@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

Sounds great and good on you, but they aren't looking for any evidence. And if they were yours isn't any they'll believe.

[–] MutilationWave@lemmy.world -1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Has anyone really been fat even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

Sorry to hear about the stroke. Get well soon.

[–] EnderMB@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

Thank you for actually asking for citations. If something is fact, you should be able to prove it.

[–] dalekcaan@lemm.ee 7 points 2 weeks ago

Was that before or after trying to sexually gratify the microphone?
