What the fuck is this off of? I remember this; it's old AF, like me, but just barely recall the scene.

My brain is itchy. Help

Spaceballs: The Nostalgia

I hadn't even seen Alien when I first saw Spaceballs, but my god this scene had me in absolute stitches. It's the way he puts on the little hat while eyeballing everyone. It's making me chuckle just thinking about it.

Sure. This looks appropriate. But how does it stay on?

[–] XTornado@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago

In my head the xenomorphs can also spit some kind of sticky liquid and they use it to attach stuff. Either that or like some insects or similar there are micro stuff on the surface that works.like Velcro and stuff gets attached to it/trapped.

Only D makes sense given what the hat supposed to be for functionality wise.

[–] Crozekiel@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Not if you just need it to keep the sun out of your eyes.

[–] mcqtom@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Correct. I'm B 100%.

[–] Mamertine@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

That is a visor. A hat covers the head.

[–] MxM111@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

Proudly and dangerously.

Surely he’d wear one of the collapsible top hats instead?

[–] magnetosphere@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Here’s something I’ve been wondering: in Aliens, weren’t the Marines joking about the possibility of the creature on LV-426 being just a xenomorph? This suggested it was a kind of creature they’d encountered before, and wasn’t a major threat.

How did the Aliens come to be known as xenomorphs?

The simplest answer is that I’m remembering things wrong. If not, though, wtf?

[–] MajorMajormajormajor@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I took that as they have encountered other species before, just nothing like the creature from the Alien franchise. The term xenomorph is just used to describe any creature not found on Earth, aka aliens.

This is backed by an earlier comment made during Ripley's hearing with the company:

Insurance attorney: Are there any species like this hostile organism on LV-426? ECA representative: No, it's a rock. No indigenous life.

Which would indicate they have encountered other aliens, just not this Alien.

The creature was named both Alien and Xenomorph because that's what it is, but came to define the names and took "ownership" of the names, if you will.

[–] magnetosphere@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

Okay. Thank you! I like the “xenomorph is a generic term” explanation. It works with the way people actually use language.

[–] octoperson@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 year ago

Alien is a stupid name for an alien when you stop to think about it. Just like with the creature in Frankenstein, people are going to grab at any alternate name presented, cos it's just too awkward to talk about otherwise.

C is just someone using the xenomorph as a hat rack.

[–] inconel@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 year ago

B looks classy small lady's hat.

[–] XbSuper@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

They probably wear hats designed for aliens, not humans. So none of the above.

[–] mavu@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 1 year ago

Harder than expected. B, would be my #1.
But they are monsters, so probably D

[–] Melatonin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 year ago

Clearly B, D, and E are the only cool looks.

Depends on the occasion.
