Of the two famous horse drugs, why on earth did people gravitate towards ivermectin and not ketamine? Truly, we live in a dork world

[–] Majorllama@lemmy.world 61 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I have lost some family to ketamine. They are doing both don't you worry.

[–] rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world 21 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm sincerely sorry for your loss. Drugs are a seductress, especially when things are so tough. I hope you're doing okay mate.

[–] Majorllama@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago

Oh I'm fine. I don't even drink anymore. I take the occasional edible, but because so many in my family struggle with or struggled with addiction I am careful not to take edibles too often and especially not if I am overly emotional in any way.

Nice for a fun day but bad to rely on to stay happy.

[–] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Why does it have to be anyone in your family and not Elon Musk?

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 29 points 1 month ago

Because Ivermectin is far easier to get, and perversely, they don’t want ketamine because it actually does shit to you.

[–] justOnePersistentKbinPlease@fedia.io 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Because the rich fucks like Muskler want that precious ketamine all for themselves.

[–] rayquetzalcoatl@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Hasn't affected street prices, and I'd honestly rather be snorting that shit in a basement with my mates no matter what it's cut with than doing it in a bajillion USDollar penthouse alone like Musk does, the fuckin dork

Guy might have worms or parasites. There were some studies that showed a weak correlation between ivermectin and better COVID-19 outcomes, but it turns out that only studies from third world countries showed even that weak effect, and yeah if you get rid of other problems like parasites, the body can fight off COVID-19 better.

Article talking about the studies, and HN comments

[–] Darkard@lemmy.world 37 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Or maybe it's totally made up bullshit?

All it's missing is "and then everyone clapped" at the end.

[–] m_f@discuss.online 28 points 1 month ago

Oh totally that's the more likely explanation. My point is that even steelmanning the argument, it's still wrong.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago

I read one story of a guy who swore Ivermectin saved him from Covid. He's completely cured now thanks to horse dewormer with no lasting effects.

(Except for losing half his lung capacity). But it prevented all bad covid issues, flawlessly perfect outcome!

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 66 points 1 month ago (1 children)

If you believe in the medieval theory of toothaches being caused by tiny worms, it sounds a lot more reasonable.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I mean, they're not wrong. It's just the worms are REALLY tiny.

[–] Worx@lemmynsfw.com 9 points 1 month ago

Everything is worms if you believe in string theory

[–] Gerudo@lemm.ee 52 points 1 month ago (5 children)

There are people on nextdoor that constantly ask where they can source ivermectin, and raw milk has been popping up lately too. I just don't get it.

[–] stinerman@midwest.social 32 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

They want to feel smart so they seek out esoteric "knowledge".

[–] FabledAepitaph@lemmy.world 30 points 1 month ago (1 children)

This basically sums up a lot of right-wing BS. They want the drama and excitement of plain-truth facts being incorrect in the face of exciting convoluted conspiracy theories that nobody can prove.

[–] ulterno@programming.dev 3 points 1 month ago

Because the stuff that's actually exciting and unknown, flies miles above their heads.

[–] dumbass@leminal.space 9 points 1 month ago

Natural selection is back from its holiday.

[–] Nomecks@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 month ago

It's just the gene pool cleaning itself

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 month ago

Try to find out where they live.

America is barreling toward a bird-flu pandemic and they're turning the headlights out on the clown car for safety in the dark.

So, estate sale coming. Cheap house.

(I kid, I kid)

[–] _stranger_@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Mix up a 5 gallon bucket of malt powder and whatever liquids you have laying around the garage and sell it to them as "stabilized " raw milk, no refrigeration required.

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 48 points 1 month ago (3 children)

The rural South gobbles that shit up.

I've literally talked to doctors and nurses here who believe this nonsense. Not just a few. It's a very common sentiment.

What do you do when you don't feel like you're safe in their hands? Get into herbal/folk/witchcraft remedies?

[–] Noodle07@lemmy.world 28 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] burgersc12@mander.xyz 22 points 1 month ago (2 children)

You make it sound so simple

[–] Noodle07@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

It's not, ask any migrant

While fermented garlic and honey are actually pretty good for you, (probiotics from fermentation, certain anti-microbial properties of both garlic and honey, etc), it's not actual medicine.

Home remedies are great at making you feel a bit better while your body fights something off but they're no substitute for medicine to actually help your body fight off your infection.

I'll swear by hot tea, honey, lemon with a splash of some kind of liquor and some chicken noodle soup when dealing with a sore throat but I'm also taking cough medicine to actually manage the symptoms in addition to those home remedies.

Mint for nausea

Honey for sore throat

Antibiotics for fucking infections

Maybe these people all have parasites?

[–] federalreverse@feddit.org 24 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Sounds like something the AI cookbook would give you.

@BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world you consistently bring us top notch stupidity, and for that I am extremely grateful.

[–] BonesOfTheMoon@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

You are most welcome. I can't believe how stupid these people are.

From the same species that invented space crafts and laser-based communications.

[–] MeatPilot@lemmy.world 22 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What's worse is people who see this and praise it instead of calling them out.

[–] SkaveRat@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 1 month ago

Get them out of the gene pool faster

[–] meowmeowbeanz@sh.itjust.works 20 points 1 month ago

Local dentists hate this one weird trick! (So does the FDA)

[–] thesohoriots@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago

Medicine for people who steal their dog’s xanax

[–] FireWire400@lemmy.world 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Alternatively you could just go to the dentist.... oh wait... no, you probably can't

[–] pseudo@jlai.lu 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

How about dentistrycraft ?

[–] marcos@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

What? Do you believe in dentists?!

No, deworming drugs are the way to go to improve your dental health. What do you think dentists do? It's certainly not that.

(\s obviously, but if somebody needed me to point, it's here.)

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Guy just loves garlic.

I do too.

Please give me more of said witchcraft.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 6 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Forget the ivermectin. Honey and garlic sounds like it might be kinda good. Ever try hot honey on, say, pizza? Yeah.

[–] Fashim@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Yeah was gonna say, honey and garlic is probably a pretty good naturopathic concoction. Friend of mine used to brew a chilli tea for colds, sounds like garlic honey would work well with it

I'll pass on the ivermectin though

[–] sxan@midwest.social 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Mmmm. With some pineapple, Canadian bacon... sounds delish.

[–] magnetosphere@fedia.io 3 points 1 month ago

Pineapple… uh… order your own pizza lol

[–] QuantumSparkles@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago

Pretty sure that’s just a jar of literal poop water
