So the US is actually banning people for daring to oppose mass murder.

This is such a grotesquely insane timeline.

They don't call amerikkka the great satan for nothin'

[–] ferristriangle@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The US can be trusted to do the right thing, but only after they've exhausted every other option

What is this, Canada‽

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 45 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah I’m not holding my breath that this means they’ll kick out the Afrikaner immigrant that tweeted that Jews are dangerous and trustworthy.

[–] Outdoor_Catgirl@hexbear.net 37 points 2 days ago

Nah, they love antisemitism. If people in the us hate Jews, then american Jews are incentivized to go to the zionist entity and steal land.

I'd be embarrassed to get a visa to the US

This doesn't fit any definition of the word "slop". Slop in the cultural sense is low quality content that is low quality and meaningless. Slop in the literal sense means food that you feed to pigs or live stock. Slop in the sidebar definition says "anonymous" "bullshit"; Anonymous means that you don't know who it is; bullshit means low impact, meaningless, empty.

It seems disrespectful to the people impacted to call it "slop". You wrote in the title that it's an official government action. There have been people already deported for criticizing Israel. There will be more people who are going to be deported for criticizing Israel. If you spoke to them and they told you about their deportation, would you say to them that it's slop?

[–] WrongOnTheInternet@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah it's a stupid community title, you reckon the gossip one is better?

[–] dead@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

I don't think that slop is a bad comm. I think that slop is a fine comm for posting slop, ie bad posts by twitter users or redditors, absurd reactionary things which are mostly inconsequential.

I think that news stories which have real world material impact should be posted in news or politics. Gossip would be like things said by a public figure without direct material impact. Like if Marco Rubio expresses his own opinions, it could be considered gossip. Official government policy said by one of the most powerful government officials is newsworthy.

My personal test for whether I post something in the slop comm is whether I could explain the post to a stranger in public. You could walk up to a stranger in public and say "Marco Rubio wants to deport immigrants who criticize Israel" and they would know what you are talking about. If you walk up to a stranger in public and say "These lemmy.world posters says that anti-war activists should have voted for Kamala to stop the genocide", a stranger won't know what lemmy world is, then it's slop.

Good distinction

It's news if it's a chud in the white house or congress, it's slop if it's a chud streamer or some other terminally online shit

absurd reactionary things which are mostly inconsequential

Unfortunately there is not a clear demarcation and I don't see much value in trying to seperate them

Yesterday's steamer calling for fascism is tomorrow's US political leader, and the absurb reactionary things being posted will be used to justify crimes against humanity

The only thing I care less about than whether something is directly consequential or indirectly and possibly not consequential is the allocation of those posts to two seperate communities created because of some bizarre mod clique about shit that doesn't matter (not the name, which matters in a symbolic way, but having two communities)

And now I should disengage because I've written too much about something I ostensibly don't care about

You can say "fuck america" and they would still let you in, but "fuck Israel"? Straight to jail

[–] GrouchyGrouse@hexbear.net 33 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I hope Marco Rubio is killed and eaten by Clifford the Big Red Dog so he gets eaten, digested, pooped out, eaten again, thrown up, and eaten again

[–] AnarchoAnarchist@hexbear.net 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I like the idea but worry letting a dog eat something this slimy might be unhealthy.

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 11 points 1 day ago

It would hurt my tum tum

[–] dkr567@hexbear.net 26 points 2 days ago

Just united states of israel thing.

[–] CyborgMarx@hexbear.net 22 points 2 days ago

So 80% of the world population?

[–] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 18 points 2 days ago (3 children)

we need a nickname, preferably rhyming, for Marco.

like Dorko Rubio or Asshole Rubio. but maybe something that isn't so crass it wouldn't be said on TV. something in the PG realm of Sleepy Joe or goofy Elizabeth?

I need something to say in my head besides "this fuckin' guy".

[–] culpritus@hexbear.net 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Zio Rubio

Thirsty Marco / Rubio

Snarko Marco

All I got for the moment

[–] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

snarko is interesting.... made me think of "Lapdog" Barko Rubio maybe a visual of his open mouthed head (barking) on a little shitty dog. and then the lap could belong to whatever captains of industry/billionaires. i like that it also emphasizes the guy is an angry little mouth piece that would get bodied in a fight.

ill try to mock something up concise and meme-able / emoji-ish tomorrow.

[–] culpritus@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

immediately got me imagining this from Mars Attacks:

lets-fucking-go

[–] came_apart_at_Kmart@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

ok, here's the beef. that's about all the time i care to spend this morning considering this guy's face.

big format and transparent so somebody can emoji it or edit / give it some ben garrison style features and labels.

Isn't this an 1st amendment violation?

[–] 7bicycles@hexbear.net 19 points 2 days ago (3 children)

there's an easy judicial way out here: just say the 1st amendment applies to US Citizens only

I watched the video where exactly does he say that? Closest I saw was he said "we have implemented a vigorous new visa policy that will prevent foreign nationals from coming to the United States to foment hatred against our Jewish community" - seems a lot more vague than the post title

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Huh? "Those who call for the death of Israelis are calling for the death of Jews, those that call for the destruction of Israel are calling for the destruction of the jewish people."

"After killing two innocents who he beloved were jews he proudly shouted free free Palestine, words that now surve as a battle cry for the death of Jews and the destruction of Israel and the horrors we must never again allow. There can be no compromise with antisemitism"

"Those who call for the boycott of Israel are calling for the boycott of their Jewish neighbors and classmates"

"We will stand with the Jewish people. We have implemented a vigorous new visa policy that will prevent foreign nationals from coming to the United States to foment hatred against our Jewish community"

The guy spends almost the entirety of his speech equating the Zionist state with Jews. "Free Palestine" is genocidal language according to Rubio. He paints the DC shooters motives as antisemitic even claiming he thought they were Jews, when its clear in his manifesto that his motivations were anti-zionist.

All language critical of Israel or in support of Palestine is fair game according to Rubio here. If "Free Palestine" is genocidal language then all critical messages regarding Israel are genocidal language.

He's using all the same language and talking points that the state of Israel uses to equate Jews and Zionism as a unity, when they're not.

[–] MF_COOM@hexbear.net 3 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I didn't say I agree with the speech or his Zionist worldview I said he I didn't see where he said "anyone who criticizes Israel will not be granted a visa to the United States"

[–] RedWizard@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago

He's not saying the quite part out loud, the title is making the quite part loud. Rubio is dog whistling for 4 minutes. The goal is to create a chilling effect in all critical voices through the abuse of the visa system. He hopes you see the abuse and decide to shut your mouth.

[–] MayoPete@hexbear.net 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Fascists are too deceptive to say what they really mean. They need a shred of plausible deniability to stay relevant in "polite society".
