Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

The US needs school shootings in order to defend democracy

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 9 points 4 hours ago

Now with his own GeStaPo with a budget bigger than most of the worlds militaries, he can finally eradicate any opposition with ease. Well done, American voters, you got yourself a Führer.

[–] A_Random_Idiot@lemmy.world 12 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Don't owrry, he'll file a spurious lawsuit against them soon, which they will immediately settle, in a totally-not-legalized-bribe means of smoothing over the upset.

[–] BarneyPiccolo 4 points 5 hours ago

It's worked for ABC and CBS, why not CNN? Just threaten to pull their broadcast licenses, and accept a settlement bribe.

I suspect CNN won't be the last.

[–] peaceful_world_view@lemmy.world 6 points 5 hours ago

That sound coming out of China......laughter.

[–] SabinStargem 10 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

If we allow Dogey America to survive, this won't be a joke anymore. Children will be playing with Alligator Alcatraz playsets.

[–] DrDickHandler@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

Don't give them ideas.

I can't believe I'm living though my country's Nazi era. History will not be kind to us. I hate all of this. My sister voted for this and I'll never forgive her.

[–] PenguinMage@lemmy.world 38 points 15 hours ago (3 children)

My entire damned family voted for it... even my closest sibling who had never voted republican in her life... that other side indoctrinated hard... I'm so disgusted, and she even said "I'm so sad ice picked up one of my favorite co-workers!" "And you voted for that" apparently wasn't the comfort she was seeking.

[–] BarneyPiccolo 9 points 5 hours ago

Even if we can finally purge MAGA from our government, and even have it declared a terrorist/hate organization, how do we deal with millions of brainwashed idiots? They aren't going to change their minds easily, and accept that they were conned.

They were conned once, they can be easily conned again.

[–] DrDickHandler@lemmy.world 8 points 6 hours ago

Dumb fucking bitch. Sorry.

[–] sturmblast@lemmy.world 19 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

I mean... these people are ignorant as shit.

Ignorant isn't the right word. There has been a coordinated propaganda campaign for 30 years pointing toward this goal. What you're seeing in these people didn't happen overnight. Yes they are also ignorant. Nazi sympathizers were average citizens. Fascist propaganda is a powerful drug.

[–] PenguinMage@lemmy.world 12 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

Too fucking true... just hurts to see it close by. I know she's smart... she's just, well indoctrinated... that cult is a hell of a drug

[–] BarneyPiccolo 5 points 5 hours ago

It IS a drug - Dopamine - and they are addicted to it. The Conservative Propaganda Machine knows it, and feeds it, giving them constant hits of Dopamine all day.

[–] nkat2112@sh.itjust.works 5 points 6 hours ago

I'm sorry for your pain - I can't imagine how hard this is for you. Hang in there, we feel for you.

[–] SnarkoPolo@lemmy.world 27 points 15 hours ago

And they'll bend the knee. Throw some scapegoat under the bus, because this is the new Fascist America.

You chose this, America. Now no one will save us.

[–] SereneSadie@lemmy.myserv.one 15 points 14 hours ago

The shitty press enabled this. Let them fall on their own sword.

[–] WoodScientist@sh.itjust.works 220 points 22 hours ago (13 children)

Daily reminder to all ICE agents. By signing up for ICE, you have signed yourself up for a lifetime of fear and criminal liability. There are Nazi concentration camp guards that were tried for their crimes in their 90s. There is no statute of limitations on crimes against humanity. Your names are recorded; your deeds are known. And you will face justice for your crimes. And do not count on a blanket pardon saving you. Crimes against humanity are violations of international law that cannot be pardoned.

They should also remember that murder peaked immediately post WWII in Europe as people got even with their Nazi tormenters.

Oh cool, a president threatening to prosecute the press for reporting on something factually correct. Cool cool cool.

[–] thefluffiest@feddit.nl 27 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

It’s about this app: https://www.iceblock.app/. Download it, use it.

Why TF has this topic been around for hours and has no one posted this? Why is the drama again made more important than the substance? Don’t let the hysteria win.

[–] Squalia@sh.itjust.works 8 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Here's an ice tracking app for Android called F.I.R.E I saw in a recent reddit post

https://fire-app.net/screens/downloads.html

[–] nkat2112@sh.itjust.works 3 points 6 hours ago

Can you tell us anything more about the app? How safe is it? Is there a discussion anywhere about it? Thank you.

[–] JimVanDeventer@lemmy.world 8 points 10 hours ago (2 children)

Download it, use it.

It is apparently restricted to US iTunes accounts only, for some brainless reason. So a lot of people who could potentially benefit from it simply can’t.

[–] WhatAmLemmy@lemmy.world 10 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

The fact it's not available on f-droid makes me think it's a honeypot.

Apple only, no website, is suspect af for an app that requires maximum privacy.

EDIT: maybe just incompetent devs, which is just as bad as the end result will be equivalent to a honeypot.

[–] BarneyPiccolo 0 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

The website offers an explanation as to why there is no Android version. Basically it's because Android would require them to maintain a database of Android users, which is a security issue if it gets confiscated by the government. They call those privacy concerns "non-negotiable," and suggest Android users but a cheap old iPhone model to use the app.

[–] DiskCrasher@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

The apk could be released outside of Google and its policies. They could even open source it.

[–] JimVanDeventer@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

Even with an iPhone it is inaccessible without a US account.
