i can't tell the difference between alleged campist anti-americans and people who are anti-america on principles because amerikkka just keeps being evil all the time every time.

also fwiw campist and campism are flagged by my spellcheck so they're not common enough to be legit (and no concerted effort to call us that by "legitimate" analysts.)

It's originally actually a Trotskyist epithet with basically the same meaning.

It's not really a thing, and to the extent that it is, it's projection of the orientation of the people assigning the view to others in the first place

Campism is a real thing, but it's what happens when we go hang out in the woods together and the liberals aren't invited. We can only carry so many vegan marshmallows.

Invite me to the camp or I'm telling mum

Liberal epithet

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 25 points 5 days ago (1 children)

If it's not just a liberal thought terminator, I've never heard it used as anything else.

[–] ButtBidet@hexbear.net 9 points 5 days ago

Came here to say this. "Tankie" doesn't feel new or clever enough, so lib-lefts need a new word.

[–] axont@hexbear.net 21 points 5 days ago

Every time I've been called a campist it's come from a person who also wants to say Cuba and China are fascist dictatorships

It's one of those things that I can imagine hypothetically but doesn't seem real in practice. Of course liberal political analysis seems to only take place in hypotheticals so it's real to them.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 14 points 5 days ago

there are pro-US campists for sure but we have better things to call them

[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 13 points 5 days ago

Yeah, like I’m sure there’s some people out there that applies to, but as practical matter not enough to justify the use of the phrase in the discourse.

[–] heresiarch@hexbear.net 16 points 5 days ago

In my experience it's the more polite thing people to my right on international issues call me irl instead of just calling me a tankie or something.

Did the liberals steal another marxist word when I wasn't paying attention?

[–] CrookedSerpent@hexbear.net 11 points 5 days ago
