MODERATORS

i was legitimately confused why i was getting zero replies in very active threads. and yes this is just a whine post about how horribly opaque fediverse moderation is these days

rule 1? rule 2? fuck if I know what I said that broke those rules, here's a ban that you don't even get notified about. i probably said fuck too many times. that's "not respectful".

You probably said something mean about Daddy Marx, or pointed out one of the many flaws with communism.

They're a sensitive lot.

[–] empireOfLove@lemmy.one 36 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (11 children)

Actually yeah. i'll guarantee that was it. 14 days ago I was making fun of hexbear users defending russia's war crimes in the memes /c/ of all places... which is weird that they defend it considering russia is very not-communist anymore.

still sucks since many of the largest communities around things like linux and tech are on .ml

[–] Midnight@slrpnk.net 35 points 11 months ago

They're campists; they can't understand any level of moral complexity.

Anyone who opposes the US is inherently good, because surely the west is the only one that can be imperialistic.

That's the Reddit way.

Shadowbanning you without any notification so you're unaware as long as possible.

I was banned from the climate sub by the mod for disagreeing that humanity will survive the climate apocalypse. No message, just deleted comments.

[–] empireOfLove@lemmy.one 12 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Humanity will survive; society as we know it, or in any form higher than nomadic tribes, not so much.
Glad to know Reddit moderator behavior has carried over, it's just like old times!

[–] Nudding@lemmy.world 6 points 11 months ago

Depends on if we start getting super storms or not after we start the dominos falling in terms of tipping points.

[–] Swedneck@discuss.tchncs.de 4 points 11 months ago (2 children)

people really seem to have a boner for the apocalypse, from what i've seen the reality is that poor people will as always get shafted and most people in developed countries will be mostly fine albeit with a lot of change and maybe having to move if you live in a flooding-prone area.

[–] Nudding@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

I always thought a zombie apocalypse would be fun, but a storm planet with insane class disparity full of oil/water wars isn't going to be fun at all.

Interesting take. I’ve always posited that the earth and nature will survive but I never included people in that. It’d probably be a reversion to nomadic and hunter/gatherer tribes to start. The question is would it take as long to rebuild? And would it follow the same path again?

[–] Nudding@lemmy.world 1 points 11 months ago

Depends on if we destroy the ecosystem long enough and hard enough to kill everything over 50 pounds.

[–] quatschkopf34@feddit.de 23 points 11 months ago (2 children)

You‘re not allowed to say anything bad about China or Russia over there. Got banned on a few communities too. The mods over there are pretty petty and enforce the „rules“ as they like.

[–] XEAL@lemm.ee 6 points 11 months ago

Ahhh, the Reddit way

[–] Sailing7@lemmy.ml 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

For real now?

I dont want to have to search all the communities that I subscribed to again.

Does anybody know if there is an easy way to bring your subscribtions with you when opening an account on a new instance?

[–] SomeBoyo@feddit.de 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)
[–] Sailing7@lemmy.ml 1 points 11 months ago

Niice, thanks a lot!

[–] YeetPics@mander.xyz 15 points 11 months ago (1 children)

So a bunch of genocidal toddlers excommunicated you for telling them the truth.

That's a win, friendo.

[–] LemmyIsFantastic@lemmy.world 15 points 11 months ago

100% mods just toss them around to ban opinions they don't like. I even got one for genocide that I'm not even able to see what I said. Good Lord I wish I could see what pissed them off so much.

[–] GBU_28@lemm.ee 13 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

The fastest way to handle lemmygrad or hexbear is to just rile them up real good in their communities.

Rather than me banning them, they all ban or block me. Ezpz.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 13 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Honestly, why even give a shit?

Of all the things to spend time and energy considering about, comment activity and lemmy.ml is an interestingly niche investment choice.

If you consider anything, it should be retrospectively a positive. You're cut from that pointless niche now. Go prosper.

[–] empireOfLove@lemmy.one 10 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

I really don't care, I actually thought it was kind of hilarious i was just yelling into a federated void for two weeks before my slow ass finally realized something was off lmfao hence the meme about the really bad moderation system

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 11 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Wait, how do I check for bans? Because I find it suspicious that I haven't been banned from anything when that happened regularly on Reddit

[–] empireOfLove@lemmy.one 7 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (2 children)

Go to the "Modlog" page at the very bottom of the web interface for your instance. You can search moderation tasks by username, such as your own, and it should show removed content.

I've found actual instance bans don't federate reliably though, e.g i cant see any of my lemmy.ml bans on lemmy.one. so you'd have to check the target instances by opening their web page in an incognito or logged-out browser window, and view their modlog directly instead of your home instances' modlog.

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 2 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Thanks!

I've just seen I had a comment removed from lemmy.ml, for "rule 1" reasons but don't really see what's wrong with the comment other than it goes against the political grain of the community (world news).

[–] empireOfLove@lemmy.one 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

but don’t really see what’s wrong with the comment other than it goes against the political grain of the community (world news).

thats how it do be these days, unfortunately

you'll never get more explanation than that

[–] blackn1ght@feddit.uk 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah. I think it's basically they use it as a blanket rule to sensor content that goes against their political narrative.

I just realised that you can go to the instance in question and view search the modlog, it seems it has more entries. I actually got a ban! No idea why.

[–] ShitOnABrick@lemmy.world 2 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Fanks for the tip m8 just discovered the comment below had been banned for 'rule ' It's nice to know that my comment made an lemmyml admin so butthurt that he actually had to get off his cheese dorito and self injackulation ridden lazyboy chair kiss his little picture off marx lenin and xi jinping and move his mobility scooter two feet to his computer open it up and shadow ban me for half week for no reason just rule 1 i think we all know the reason why they removed the main comment which goes into proper detail I can't remember what if is exactly since its been a week since I posted thid

Yes. I have posted these links multiple times now.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_water_army?wprov=sfla1

Also the fifty cent party a Chinese troll farm based entirely on spreading propaganda for the ccp

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50_Cent_Party?wprov=sfla1

This took me 5 seconds of research. If were being passive aggressive here ive gotta say. are you sure you didn’t get dropped on the head as a baby or eat copious amounts of lead

[–] HawlSera@lemm.ee 2 points 11 months ago

People have talked about a modlog but I had no idea what they meant

[–] Stamets@startrek.website 10 points 11 months ago

You're in good company. The same thing happened to me and my posts. Also happened to Picard M. We both had our posts removed and is banned for reasons we couldn't figure out. I ended up making a second account to ask that instance why my posts weren't able to be seen. Then the same admin (the one who banned us and removed the posts) then contacted us to try to elaborate but has no real answer. Started giving reasons for removal that made no sense within reality, nevermind their insanely vague rules.

The mods and admins are way too inconsistent over there. They do what they want, they don't enforce. It's exactly why I outright left lemmy.ml and don't bother to engage with them anymore. It's not consistent enough to know what to do and what not to do.

They wanna act like petulant children and throw shit at the walls then they can do so on their own.

[–] ShitOnABrick@lemmy.world 8 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

This is an perfect example of the empty room fallacy also a pretty funny meme as well

Essentially the empty room fallacy is where you can't use any public social media platforms or say these things in public but you can say these things in a empty room. Is that still free speech. No that's absurd. The purpose of speech is to be able to communicate share ideas common interests to talk to one and another and to be able to challenge political ideas in a open and free manor and you can't do that on lemmyml. Not unless you want a 14 day ban for thought crime

Ideally we would want to sway away from what lemmy ml is doing even if that involves defederating

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (3 children)

I'm going to be real with you bro. I've come across posts and comments from you before and without reading anything you've said here I can guarantee it's because you had nonsense or uninformed takes on something a mod cared a lot about. Probably global affairs or communism.

[–] SaakoPaahtaa@lemmy.world 9 points 11 months ago

The only uninformed takes I read on this site on communism come from communists themselves.

[–] GrayBackgroundMusic@lemm.ee 4 points 11 months ago

No comment on the topic, just your name made me chuckle.

[–] empireOfLove@lemmy.one 3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

I should be allowed to post my nonsense and uninformed takes however I please and get ridiculed by the community for it, not outright quiet-banned by mods just because they didn't like me. I'm a big boy, I can take the heat.

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 1 points 11 months ago

You sound like the type of person who goes to concert just to tell people the band isn't good

[–] 1984 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

Good thing there are hundreds of other instances. This a solved problem with Lemmy.

No need to even complain about it. You have choice here.

The largest instances are going to be like reddit, yes.

[–] empireOfLove@lemmy.one 4 points 11 months ago

Oh I know theres lots more out there. But I'm uber lazy and like my one comfy account with a specific set of subscribed comfy communities
