I guess first quarter is usually the worst time in the year to job hunt but holy shit it’s fucking bleak out here. I live in a well populated college town in the south and 90% of job listings are nursing or something highly specialized. Slim pickings for the rest of us. Feels like my biology degree is totally useless when I can’t even get a call back from McDonalds lol. I’m so cooked

ITS HISTORICALLY LOW UNEMPLOYMENT, reject the evidence of your eyes and ears, EMBRACE the cherrypicked data coming from the mouthpieces of the billionaire class

[–] Krono 30 points 9 months ago

He's created many jobs in the arms industry.

You screwed up when you chose biology, the real money is in killing brown children.

remember when all the new jobs were gig app bullshit

[–] moujikman@hexbear.net 24 points 9 months ago

Interest rates remain high so the squeeze is still happening.

[–] emizeko@hexbear.net 19 points 9 months ago

you didn't get a job at the curing cancer factory?

[–] RION@hexbear.net 19 points 9 months ago (1 children)

technically you've got a job if you work even one (1) hour a week for any money, in which case you don't count as unemployed statistically very-intelligent

[–] ClimateChangeAnxiety@hexbear.net 21 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Also if you’ve given up on looking for work because you can’t find a job you also do not count as unemployed

[–] JohnBrownNote@hexbear.net 14 points 9 months ago

they don't count us because we're supposed to die and whatever the rest of that ebenezer scrooge line is.

God fuck I’m just starting job searching also in biology and I am not looking forward to it

Work for pharma or go back for a PhD and more debt to work for less than 6figs.

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 8 points 9 months ago

I shit you not after years of depression making me meander through life, I'm settling on getting a master's in STEM for this very reason lol.

Why don't voters understand that the economy is doing great????????

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 12 points 9 months ago (2 children)

smuglord: "Silly wokist, have you even been listening to us? It's STEM only, why would you get a degree in bio....oh....I mean, you should have just read our minds and realized what we really meant was engineering or GTFO."

[–] Great_Leader_Is_Dead@hexbear.net 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Even engineers are struggling a bit right now. My sis is an engineer and she just landed a job after 9 months of unemployment after a lay off.

In a cruel irony this economy is better for baristas looking for work than it is STEM nerds. Just learn to make lattes!

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 7 points 9 months ago

Most efficient economic system, everyone!

More business than ever, but since employers are satisfied with the labor they got. Gen Z is fucked unless they are exceptionally talented (and then that exceptional becomes the expectation of gen Z. Fun)

Actually college was wrong all along obviously I should have gone to trade school

sadness-abysmal

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 7 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

Oh yeah, I forgot that's the new thing. Everyone and their mother is now "supposed" to learn a trade because porky decided college should not be an option anymore because....reasons. Capitalism literally wants to decide people's careers for them.

I wonder what the next excuse will be when they refuse to hire people in trades.

EDIT: Wait....inb4 social media gets flooded with the same picture of some smug military recruiter with a shit-eating grin poses at a table gloatingly gesturing at a chair.

smuglord: "Awww, the professional world didn't want you? That's okay, you can be porky's personal hitman! Have fun getting traumatized for life if you're lucky, or having your life cut short. You snowflake do-gooders care the environment, right? Think of it as solving overpopulation!"

I have a similar experience....it fucking sucks

[–] Diablosmacc@hexbear.net 7 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It sucks because I feel totally trapped. I can either go back to school and live off student loans and accrue a shit load of more debt, or I can keep working retail or in kitchens for pennies. I wish I had just stayed in the workforce post high school instead of bothering with higher education at all

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 4 points 9 months ago

It sucks because I feel totally trapped.

I feel the same way... I'm hoping to be a bit strategic these next few years so I can leave my awful country (which is abysmal in my industry) and get hired somewhere else (hopefully China).

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 10 points 9 months ago

He built back better. Can’t you be grateful tankie

[–] ImmortanStalin@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 9 months ago

Have you looked into medical labs? They're perpetually understaffed and some will hire Bio majors and train them on the job.

[–] CloutAtlas@hexbear.net 10 points 9 months ago

I'm starting to believe Biden was referring to all those children who are working (and dying) in factories because he's lowered/allowed republicans to lower the age of employment.
