I got Final Fantasy VII Remake. I've been working through the entire Final Fantasy series, mostly in order thanks to the pixel remasters. Currently having the time of my life with FFVII after being extremely disappointed with VI (which surprisingly has been my least favorite by far), and now have the option to play Remake immediately after if I want.

I considered Baldur's Gate 3 because everyone I know keeps gushing about how great it is. It just doesn't look very fun and there is no way I'm going to put down $48 on a video game.

FF VI haters unite solidarity

What kinds of genres are you interested in? I can make some recs.

As for personal pickups, got MGR and Pizza Tower. I also bought Fear and Hunger 1 and 2, I am sus of them but a Survival Horror JRPG sounds too interesting to overlook at their prices. Grabbed Tunic as well, Crow Country, and Hylics 2. Also grabbed Faith: The Unholy Trinity and Crosscode with New Home for easier Steam Deck use.

Pthologic 2 Bachelor route isn't out yet so no.

the deep discounts page is pretty nuts this year, too bad i have everything i want off the list

i picked up terra invicta for 30% off, it's pretty neat. the mod team that did Long War for XCom 2 built a 4x grand strategy with an alien invasion layer to give you a long-term goal beyond simple 'turn map my color' domination. get your research pumping, mine asteroids and the moon, develop a defense fleet to repel the aliens camping out beyond pluto's orbit, all while turning the whole solar system your color!

[-] Comp4@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago

I haven't picked up Terra Invicta yet, but as a project, it seems super ambitious.

I'm going to recommend some lesser known games.

  • Lunistice, a 3D platformer with a 90s polygon graphics aesthetic.
  • Star of Providence, a roguelike twin stick shmup. Used to be known as Monolith until they changed it for copyright reasons, but the cool thing is that there used to be DLC, but it's now included with the game.
  • Ex-Zodiac: what if Nintendo actually made a good new Star Fox game? I think this one is a little too difficult, but it's still worth playing.

i always wait until the last days because some stuff isn't discounted until then

This might be the most mundane game I've bought so far, but I picked up Supermarket Simulator and liked it enough to mod it.

It's so fucking tedious, but I can't pull myself away once I get through the first day. burgerpain

Not planning on buying anything this year, I have enough games to last a lifetime TBH

Spent a bit too much money for my liking this time around, I think I got a bit too excited after getting a steam deck recently... From lowest to highest price:

Lunistice - £3,49 (free demo!) - Looks like a neat 3D platformer with an artstyle that drew me in instantly and has great reviews. Looks like some kind of alternate universe 3D sonic for the PS2.

Chicory: A Colorful Tale - £8,37 - I gifted this game to a younger sibling of mine a few years ago and they loved it a lot. I've been wanting to play it since then to connect to them a bit more (we don't get to interact much in any meaningful way due to transphobic parents) and it seems perfect for the deck.

It Takes Two - £12,24 - Finished this game before with my partner through a pirated windows copy. We had a blast & knew we would want to replay it someday because it switches through gameplay mechanics so many times, plus if we play as the other character, it'll actually be all fresh gameplay. The story sucks and the hetero bickering of the two main characters is a lot to take, but the gameplay carries this thing & thankfully the cutscenes are skippable.

Tchia - £12,49 - I finished playing Alba: A Wildlife Adventure recently, loved it a lot and this seemed like a great follow up for me to play. And it's set in New Caledonia, which makes it extra exciting! Really keen to dig into this one.

Tetris Effect: Connected - £15,49 - The price on this one really stung, but I've been following it for ages and haven't seen it discounted any lower sadly. I've played a whole bunch of it previously through a pirated windows copy and it quickly became one of my favourite games. I've been playing Lumines: Remastered a lot to try to satisfy my Tetris Effect craving, and even though I was having a good time, it wasn't quite hitting the same spot, so I'm excited to be able to get into the tetris zone again.

You're correct—this is the lowest the price ever goes, unless you plan on relocating to Kazakhstan.

I might buy the metal gear collection and some indie titles. Kinda want to buy more but I've already got such an insane backlog.

[-] barrbaric@hexbear.net 7 points 5 days ago

Might pick up the amogus DLC for Vampire Survivors. Maybe Balatro? Idk, nothing really calls to me.

Balatro is allegedly coming to iOS and Android at some point and when that happens it’s over for me

fallout four, I admit accusations

and battlebit

[-] lorty@lemmygrad.ml 3 points 4 days ago

The deals seem better this year but why buy anything if I'll just play the same 3 games?

[-] magi@hexbear.net 6 points 4 days ago

Money is tight, if I did want to play something I'd probably pirate if I can, I'm also patient and will wait on SMT5 coming down in price in a few years. I'm currently going through a load of retro stuff so I'm well catered for games wise

I got Forza Horizon 4 and a couple of fun looking 3D platformers namely Cavern of Dreams and Kao the Kangaroo.

Few friends also got me Street Fighter 6 since it was my birthday recently so I look forward to losing many street fights against them

But yea one of the first sales in a while that has noticeably good deals I’d say.

[-] BynarsAreOk@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago

I realy want to recommend Dyson Sphere Program even though its not on a big discount sadly. 400h on that in the past. I'm also recommending Distant worlds 2 since its very good but perhaps a bit too expensive at full price.

I'm definitely going for X4: Foundations dlcs that I missed for the past 3 years.

[-] imikoy@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago

Nothing... I probably would have bought some games, but I am unable to. Also I'm ok with only having one game (xonotic), since I do need to limit my distractions.

Square Enix fucking sucks at sales. I am not paying $22 for the anime pantyshot sequel to Yoko Taro's Wild Ride.

[-] Kiagz@hexbear.net 5 points 4 days ago

You can get some great indie games for a cheap price right now. Here’s some that you might not have heard of:

  • One night, hot springs. A cute, free game about a trans girl going to a hot spring together with her friends. There’s an expanded version of this game called A Year of Springs, which is currently 30% off.
  • Tails of Iron. Cool game about anthro rats vs frogs in a medieval setting. Currently 88% off.
  • Spirit of the North and Seasons after Fall. In both of these you play as a fox, exploring the world and solving puzzles to progress. Currently 85% and 80% off.
  • Exo One. A beautiful game that takes you on a journey through many different planets. There's no puzzles, you can just relax, enjoy the wonderful scenery and try to get your ball to the highest momentum possible. Currently 70% off.

For anyone who hasn't played it, the Mass Effect Legendary Edition is $6 right now. Super worth.

[-] bbnh69420@hexbear.net 5 points 5 days ago

Sold some cs cases and used it to cop the dishonored dlc, BFV, and frostpunk

[-] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 4 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Dead Space 2 is currently discounted to 3.99€ which is fair but I distinctly remember gifting it to someone a couple of years back and it costing less than 2 euros in whatever sale that was. Then you have the original 2008 Dead Space at 7.99€, twice as expensive, and they list a 5.99€ EA Play sub above the fucking game itself on the store page

The pessimist in me wants to say we're going to see less and less of deep discounts on old games in the future in favour of this fucking subscription bullshit dean-frown

[-] Evilphd666@hexbear.net 4 points 4 days ago

I got Sandland had to pay tribute to Toriyama goku-halal, and Disco Elysium though disco doesn't look like a game style I'd like. Sea of Thieves maybe to troll with my nephews friends. Maybe Frostpunk but I want to research Frostpunk 2 see which one is right for me.

I liked the look of sand land, reminds me a lot of blue dragon funnily enough, think it's the post processing and similar font on the title curious-marx
