Anarchism is a social movement that seeks liberation from oppressive systems of control including but not limited to the state, capitalism, racism, sexism, speciesism, and religion. Anarchists advocate a self-managed, classless, stateless society without borders, bosses, or rulers where everyone takes collective responsibility for the health and prosperity of themselves and the environment.

Erich Muhsam was born in Berlin in 1878 into a fairly well-to-do Jewish family. Soon after his family moved to Luebeck in north Germany where his father worked as a pharmacist (in fact the pharmacy is still there).

He hated the school where he was sent, which was known for its authoritarian discipline and its unsparing use of corporal punishment. Erich was often a victim of "the unspeakable flailings which were supposed to beat out of me all my innate feelings" because his rebellious nature often clashed with the school regime. In 1896 he wrote an anonymous piece for the socialist paper Luebecker Volsboten denouncing one of the school's most brutal teachers. This caused a scandal and Erich was expelled for taking part in socialist activities.

Erich had wanted to be a writer and poet from an early age and he left Luebeck to pursue this aim in Berlin in 1900. He got involved in a group called Neue Gemeinschaft (New Society) which combined socialist ideology with experiments in communal living. Here he met Gustav Landauer who introduced him to anarchist communist ideas. Muehsam contributed to Kampf, the anarchist paper of his friend Senna Hoy, who later died in terrible conditions in a Russian prison.

In 1904 Erich went to Ascona in Italian Switzerland to live in the artists' colony of Monte Verita (the writer Herman Hesse, the dance theorist Laban, the psychotherapist Otto Gross and many Daddaists and Expressionists lived there at one time or other).

He began writing plays there, the first of which, The Con Men, mixed new political theory with traditional dramatic forms. He also continued contributing to many anarchist papers, which drew the attention of the German authorities. He was considered one of the most dangerous anarchist agitators.

He moved to Munich in 1908 and took part in the cabaret movement. He did not care much for writing cabaret songs, but he achieved much notice because of them.

In 1911 he founded the paper Kain which advocated anarchist communism. He castigated and ridiculed the German state, fighting capital punishment and theatre censorship, and prophetically analysing international affairs. The World War that he had predicted led to the suspension of Kain.

At first Erich publicly supported the war, but by the end of 1914 was persuaded that he had been wrong, saying that, "I will probably have to bear the sin of betraying my ideals for the rest of my life". He threw himself into anti-war activity taking part in various actions. He supported the strikes that were beginning to break out. As these became more widespread and began to take on a revolutionary nature, Erich was among those arrested and imprisoned in April 1918, and then freed in November.

With the fall of the Kaiser and King Ludwig of Bavaria, Munich burst into revolt. Muehsam and Landauer as well as Ret Marut (later known as the novelist B. Traven) were among those agitating for the setting up of Workers Councils which led on to the founding of the Bavarian Council Republic. This lasted only a week. The Social Democrats, terrified by the thought of revolution, allied with the right. The Freikorps, a reactionary militia organised by the socialist minister Noske and composed of right wing military and students, crushed the Council Republic. Landauer died under the blows of rifle butts and boots.

Muehsam escaped but was later captured and sent to prison for 15 years. In prison, Erich continued with his writing, composing many poems and the play Judas. Released in the amnesty of 1924, he returned to a Munich in the grip of apathy. He joined the Anarchist Communist Federation of Germany (FKAD). He restarted Kain but this failed after a few issues. He then brought out Fanal (The Torch) where he attacked both the Communists and the far right. His openly revolutionary tone and his attempts to stop the rise of the right made him a hate figure among conservatives and Nazis.

He used satire to ridicule the Nazis with short stories and poems. This came to the personal attention of Hitler and Goebbels, arousing their anger. He agitated for the freeing of the revolutionary Max Hoelz and wrote a play, Staatsraeson (For reasons of State) in defence of Sacco and Vanzetti), in 1928.

In 1930 he completed his last play Alle Wetter (All Hang) which called for mass revolution as the only way to stop the seizure of power by the radical Right.

A few hours after Van der Lubbe had set fire to the Reichstag in February 1933, Muehsam was arrested and then spent the last 17 months of his life in the concentration camps of Sonnenburg, Brandenburg and Oranienburg. His teeth were smashed in with rifle butts, his scalp was branded with a swastika from a red-hot iron and he was hospitalised. He was forced to dig his own grave for a mock execution, and his body became a mass of bruises and wounds. His tormentors tried to force him to sing the Nazi song the Horst Wessel Lied. He refused to give in and sang the International. " Thanks to his will power he resisted all attempts to humiliate him" (Augustin Souchy).

Despite these tortures Erich remained intransigent to the end. Finally he was tortured and murdered on the night of 9th July 1934. After beatings, a Stormtrooper leader administered a lethal injection and then a suicide by hanging was faked.

Never in my life have I learnt

To submit to anyone

Here I am locked up,

Far from my home,

My wife, my workshop.

And even if they kill me,

If I must die,

To give up is to lie!

...

But if the chains broke

Then I would breathe in sunshine

At the top of my lungs- Tyranny!

And I would cry to the people: be free!

Forget to submit yourselves!

To give up is to lie!

From Muhsam's poem The Prisoner

boy I sure love how captchas suddenly had a fucking cambrian explosion of evolution into 10000 different varieties of tedious "hey what the fuck is this, idiot, prove you're human" just like coincidentally with the take off of the AI bubble which I am sure it's entirely unrelated to

love having to answer a captcha just to view a fucking reddit page from a google search on an incognito tab

Perhaps I am getting too radical saying this irl, but it needs to be said

EXACTLY what is happening with billionaires today is what caused Lenin to rise up. Where the fuck is Lenin? I feel like most understand what I mean when I say that there is no one savior but people who embody the values and ideas of previous saviors. Sub a king out for a billionaire and nothing changes. The only difference is that these kings now take the form of nebulous concepts with human rights (i.e. corporations).

Can someone do a what is to be done surveillance state edition?

I don't see how 5 days is a reasonable isolation time after testing positive for COVID. I'd read that the CDC recommendation dropping from 10 to 5 was not based on science but economic considerations, but I assumed the 10 days + negative antigen test was effective.

My partner caught covid, and I slept in the basement and masked indoors for 11 days. We both tested on day 11, both negative, so we stopped isolating based on the research I'd done. I figured there was a chance I'd been exposed and been asymptomatic because we had slept in the same room and kissed 20 minutes before they tested positive.

I caught it immediately, and it had to be from my partner because I didn't go anywhere but to a curbside grocery pickup while they were sick.

My partner had it pretty bad. They took paxlovid, and their physical symptoms weren't too bad, but they were delusional and hallucinating. They were also being super difficult, angry and trying to piss me off for 2 straight days, almost like the way my grandfather was when he had early stage dementia. Thankfully they're better now.

[–] Commiejones@hexbear.net 11 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Never lend anyone money. You can give friends money but lending money is just bad news. It throws off the whole dynamic of a friendship. Also a new friend who valued friendship wouldn't ask to borrow money.

This is mostly me yelling into the void but GUESS WHO FINALLY GOT OFF THEIR ASS TO START WORKING ON FINISHING THEIR BLOG PART OF THEIR WEB TEMPLATE?

I have been working on a WordPress course for the last 2 weeks and it's fucking php and normie css and my God it sucks. I was gonna keep trucking on it today but last night got a bug up my butt and started looking over the unfinished blog code and decided to work on it. It just feels so good to be working with Astro and Tailwind again. Even if I have to do some trial and error with flex and such, it's just such a smoother experience. I def miss saving and having the page I'm working on update without having to manually reload.

But yeah got the styling done and also got pagination plugged in. I was wanting to get it up and running because I might have a client coming up that is gonna be needing a functioning blog lol.

My babiest sister, who is only recently freshly 18, has loved karaoke for as long as I can remember. She, however, had no ability to sing. I've never told her, it's a little rude and it's like her comfort activity if she's feeling stressed or sad. Somehow, for the last 6 years of regular singing she still can't sing. When we went out for karaoke - she has no fear and the crowd joins in.

I wish I could be like her! She's not insecure about her singing, she isn't doing it to sound good to other people, she's doing it to express herself. I get so caught up in how I'm perceived and anxious.

Music is a good thing, it's something everyone should be able to participate in and the artist v audience dynamic is a western delusion of what music really is.

In it's current form, Music has come to mean to me as a way to keep rich kids out of doing worse things to the world.

But honestly theres a useful contradiction there im realizing, like you being involved in the scene is what makes it interesting to these people and just existing and attracting them to the spectacle of a living music scene is also important. In this way you are an ingredient to keeping rich kids out of being an absolute demon.

I guess that's true for all the arts too though

Yo, got some news.

I have reasons to believe that my water pump set is dying or just fully dead. Here's what I got: I've read people online who complained their Corsair pump systems developed a red light error, the one I get during startup. Pretty much all cases turned out to be faulty pumps which needed replacement. Some argued that they developed high CPU temps and I even found one with the CPU Fan Sped Error. I also found out which model I own (found the box), it's a Corsair H80i v2, old model it seems.

Now, I feel like I want to remove it, and this will make sense in a bit. I want it replaced with a normal air cooler. My issue now is that I can't open the front panel of my Thermaltake Versa H35 chassis lmaoo, it's just a piece of metal grid with plastic around it. I found a french guy on YT that reviews it and he basically opens it by sheer force, same method as he closes it. Not good. I need to remove this panel to fully unscrew the radiator unit of the pump and I just can't, it's super shut in and I don't have the strenght to force it open plus I'm afraid I'll break it.

Regardless of that, I bought a brand new 16GB Corsair DDR4 RAM stick from a friend very very cheaply, well below market value. I couldn't let it pass. I got it delivered two hours ago, and I said "fuck it, lets put it in the A2 socket and try". And believe it or not, it worked. The system booted, past BIOS even without showing the CPU Fan Speed Error! The fuck!

However, after some time I began to hear the PC was getting overworked. Some fan was spinning faster. I opened MSI Afterburner to check on temps and it showed 17C, but the PC became more grindy sounding after I opened some windows. I restarted it to check temps on BIOS and then got the CPU Temperature Error or something, it was heating up it seems. This, I think, points towards the Pump as the culprit. I didn't go ahead, I just shut it down to avoid damage.

Should I go ahead for an air cooler? What should I be looking for? I mean for something compatible with my current socket. Is this one good enough, for example?

Feels like I'm reaching the end of this..
