It won't ever shut up (brainhole adhd).

It's more what triggers the few seconds of quiet I get blessed with every few moons.

[–] Vilian@lemmy.ca 3 points 6 days ago

Everywhere that why I'm always trying to get my mind the most distracted as possible, and that probably make me dumb as fuck and more forgetful than a clown fish

It's probably because you're not distracted by a phone while doing those activities, and your mind has space to think.

public spaces? are you a... psycho?

[–] MintyAnt@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Public spaces are the gauntlet. Everything in your body yelling at you to be extremely aware while your brain painfully attempts to disassociate. There is no space for thinking there

[–] RogueBanana@lemmy.zip 2 points 6 days ago

I don't usually over think but I just think of some random shit all day long and it's hard to just focus on something unless I am absolutely into it and enjoy it. I don't think I have ADHD but never bothered getting diagnosed as it's not bad enough to worry.

Rn thinking about dot age on the toilet doom scrolling and does anyone play the game? Should I stick with full tomato farms for food or should I try to unlock wheat and switch to it? I only have 2 thinkers pondering at the tree and +4 research doesn't seem to cut it and progress feels slow. But I am expanding a fair bit and nearly occupied the whole map so should I halt expansion and focus on research? This is my first run and halfway through summer.

I wasn't prepared for this question and I'ld rather wish you had directly thrown a wrench to my head.

If you can dodge a wrench you can dodge existential dread.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I can't dodge wrenches .... I also can't dodge existential dread

[–] Brickhead92@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

The five d's of ~~dodgeball~~ life: dodge, duck, dip, dive and dread!

Have a Lemmy gold 🏆

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

I thought it was just: dread, dying, death, decay, die

[–] Twoafros@lemmy.world 29 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I definitely overthink before sleep, I'm relatively calm in the other places you listed. I never thought about where/when I overthink before, thanks for giving me a new way of framing overthinking, I will try my best not to overthink it

[–] friend_of_satan@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Try mindfulness meditation. It has helped me get reins on my running mind, especially when I'm trying to sleep.

[–] Twoafros@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I used to meditate alot and it has helped, using headspace in the beginning but I stopped some years ago. On the bright side I overthink much less than before but meditation couldn't hurt and would probably help

All of course, but you are eight places short for your zodiac substitute wheel. Allow me to suggest:

  • While driving
  • While getting ready to work
  • Upon waking up
  • While on the toilet
  • While eating a meal
  • During breaks
  • While doing tedious work
  • While vacuuming or cleaning floors
[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

I vote for vacuuming to be combined with dishes for a general “while cleaning”. There needs to be a “while interacting with other people”.

With that said, my zodiac sign is “yes”

[–] illi@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago

I have them all, what do I win?

[–] hobovision@lemm.ee 17 points 1 week ago (3 children)

If you are always listening to podcasts or audio books your brain can't over think so you only do it while trying to sleep.

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Jokes on you, brain. I listen to sleeping podcasts. The thoughts will never catch me.

[–] srestegosaurio@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

With headphones? Mine's are not comfortable enoguh to even lie on one side without feeling pain on my ears. :/

[–] garbagebagel@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I actually have the same issue and can't wear earbuds in bed. I went as far as to purchase special sleeping headphones, they're over the ear and really small (they market themselves as the smallest in the world). I can hardly feel them honestly. However, I was cheap and bought the wired version so now the wire bothers me. If you have money to waste, they're called bedphones. Just make sure you get the wireless ones.

I sleep on my own now so I just put the sound on my speaker, but sleeping alone is all its own privilege.

Thanks for sharing! I'll guess it's something I'll try at some point. At the moment I currently sleep blindfolded and with earplugs. I like both absolute darkness and having my bedroom properly ventilated.

[–] gens@programming.dev 2 points 6 days ago

I put something on my phone when going to sleep

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 4 points 1 week ago

You and I work very differently, it seems.

[–] secret300@lemmy.sdf.org 17 points 1 week ago

There's a place you don't?

[–] phdepressed@sh.itjust.works 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Por que no los todos

Idk if that is good Spanish but everywhere

[–] Mothra@mander.xyz 13 points 1 week ago

por qué no todos would be the right way to phrase it, you were close enough though good job

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago

Everywhere?

[–] devfuuu@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago
[–] 2ugly2live@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Wait, you guys can stop over thinking?

[–] uber_chicken@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

Public spaces and my face cannot hide my thoughts.

I get some strange looks

[–] bl_r@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago

For me its when I’m sitting on my bed after showering and getting dressed

[–] FQQD@lemmy.ohaa.xyz 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] NickwithaC@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

And more!

At my desk, at the gym, at work, during therapy, watching TV, eating, at the club, while reading, so many opportunities to overthink!

[–] hemko@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

While going to sleep. Then I don't go to sleep but get up and go smoke or something until the overthink is gone

That's how I get more than 4 hours of sleep every night with this simple trick!

[–] RandomStickman@fedia.io 4 points 1 week ago

Washing dishes is the place of least overthinking, mostly because I have to put something in the background to keep the thoughts at bay. If not it's constant.

[–] MrGerrit@feddit.nl 4 points 1 week ago

Before sleeping. It also always makes me think of this song

[–] WalrusDragonOnABike 2 points 1 week ago

Before sleep and while driving... Harder to have an endless stream of distractions to interact with during those times.

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 week ago

I try not to think if I can help it. Interferes with being nuts.

[–] Samsy@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 week ago

Why not all of them?
