I mean, the NFTs worked pretty fucking well. Dude sold 45,000 of them for $99 a pop in under 24 hours. Obviously, they're a blatant grift, and anybody who bought one is a blithering idiot, but they were incredibly successful regardless. Turns out, a whole lot of blithering idiots love him and can't wait to give him their money for whatever useless bit of tat he deigns to throw at them.

As if to demonstrate the point, the gaudy monstrosity in that picture is already sold out, and they were listed at $399.

It’s just laundering Russian money

[–] FenrirIII@lemmy.world 27 points 6 months ago

And Saudi money.

[–] Signtist@lemm.ee 18 points 6 months ago (1 children)

This is the issue. Sure, we can laugh about all the ridiculous things Trump is grifting, but the fact of the matter is that they're working. Even if they're just money laundering schemes for foreign parties, as people seem convinced they are, they're still selling out in hours, which is a huge win for Trump. And honestly, I know of several republicans who would gladly spend their entire paycheck on some random trump-related thing just to "own the libs." I really think that most of these sales are legitimate, which is a very sobering window into how sad our country is right now.

I can make 45,000 fake wallets and sell some NFTs to myself to make it look like there's demand too.

[–] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 7 points 6 months ago (1 children)
[–] Dkarma@lemmy.world 10 points 6 months ago

Or just lie and say they sold out no one's actually checking.

[–] Teon@kbin.social 33 points 6 months ago (2 children)

These look like a spray painted prop from a really bad B-version of the Wizard Of Oz.
Trump thinks gold is classy but he has the shittest taste ever.

[–] Dkarma@lemmy.world 20 points 6 months ago

In case anyone didn't know.

Gold is tacky as fuck ... Especially anything that isn't classy jewelry or a watch. Even in those cases it can look extremely dated.

Your gold xxxx makes you look trailer fab.

[–] NekoRogue@slrpnk.net 11 points 6 months ago

His taste is pretty much anything an 8 year old thinks a rich guy would have.

[–] nifty@lemmy.world 24 points 6 months ago (10 children)

Seriously though let’s forget for a second who’s hawking these shoes, the sneakers are sooooo ugly by themselves. No sense of style, aesthetics, or design. Who is going to wear these and not feel like a goober?

[–] Telodzrum@lemmy.world 15 points 6 months ago

MBS can order a million of these and not violate campaign finance laws.

[–] fadhl3y@lemmy.world 11 points 6 months ago

FSB just put in an order for $380m of them

[–] fidodo@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago

I kinda feel that way about a lot of niche sneakers tbh...

[–] EtherWhack@lemmy.world 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

It's an easy way to identify the lower IQ/more gullible GOP members. (Quark would love and exploit this feature [RoA#74: Knowledge equals profit])

The stitching on those look amateur as fuck. The uneven stitch line on the soles is garbage. These are likely Walmart quality shoes with his name stamped on

[–] negativeyoda@lemmy.world 10 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I don't know that anyone expected anything different.

These are made in China most likely, correct?

[–] AFC1886VCC@reddthat.com 6 points 6 months ago

The only thing more American than "Made in the USA" is "Made in China" lol

Someone in another comment chain mentioned that Trumkers (trump sneakers) look cheaply made. Would someone with an eye for shoes be able to elaborate?

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 52 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Why wouldn't they be manufactured as cheaply as possible? The entire point is the grift.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 16 points 6 months ago (5 children)

That’s fair, but my pleather shoes keep leaking after 6 months and I’m mostly trying to figure out how to pick better shoes while engaging in the time tested tradition of trump taunting.

[–] Dagwood222@lemm.ee 9 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

Trump taunting aside, Merrell brand boots and shoes are the best. Long wearing and comfortable.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 9 points 6 months ago (3 children)

I just buy Skechers and wear them until they disintegrate, so I dunno. Extra points for alliteration

[–] FunkyMonk@kbin.social 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I second Sketchers, hard to find wide shoes that fit to begin with.

[–] YurkshireLad@lemmy.ca 6 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Skechers are so damn comfortable and they last.

[–] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

My first pleather shoes were skechers and they died after 3 months, sadly. :’(

It does not matter. It's a way for people to mass purchase these and allow them to circumvent campaign contribution limitations.

Just buy 20 containers for resale and then let them rot in a warehouse while trump sells more to his MAGAts.

[–] ArtVandelay@lemmy.world 6 points 6 months ago

Yep, it's the old book deal con except with shoes. Either the Russians or the American idiot class, or both.

Someone told me on another thread that I was bad for judging anyone who would wear $400 shiny gold shoes.

And yet, I still judge anyone who would wear $400 shiny gold shoes.

[–] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 8 points 6 months ago

You are bad for judging people based on their choice of clothes ...

But not as bad as someone who wears $400 shiny gold shoes! Heyo

[–] FlashZordon@lemmy.world 12 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Glad the SneakerCon folks boo'd this.

This will be the first sneaker to be reverse scalped.

I'm not encouraging violence or anything but... if I saw someone who was getting jumped wearing these, I'd pretend I didn't notice.

Gold and T makes me think of Mr T tbh.

[–] MycelialMass@lemmy.world 9 points 6 months ago
[–] aesen1@lemmy.world 8 points 6 months ago (3 children)

They sold out in the first hour

[–] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 6 points 6 months ago

To the RNC most likely

[–] ArtVandelay@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago (1 children)

My guess is on the Russians doing a fair bit of money laundering

[–] fox2263@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago

There’s a lot of magats on TikTok extolling them like they’re the greatest trainers ever produced

He could spray paint a bottle gold, fill it with piss and they'd buy it.

Nice pimp shoes. How appropriate.

[–] ohlaph@lemmy.world 5 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

I would rather shit in a sock, put my foot in it, let it harden, and use that as a shoe than wear that ridiculous pile of piss-like footwear.

[–] tsonfeir@lemm.ee 4 points 6 months ago

Make in GINA

[–] littletranspunk@lemmus.org 3 points 6 months ago

Cool, I know exactly which shoes to spit on now

[–] michaelmrose@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago

At least it has the correct number of stars for the number of states where he's going to win the popular vote in after being a convicted traitor.
