DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — Chad’s government said it is ending a defense cooperation agreement with France, its former colonial ruler, to redefine the nation’s sovereignty.

The decision marks a historic turning point since the Central African nation gained independence more than six decades ago, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Abderaman Koulamallah said in a statement Thursday.

Chad was one of the last countries in the region in which France maintained a large military presence, having been ousted in recent years from Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso after years of fighting Islamic extremists alongside regional troops. Those countries have inched closer to Russia, which has mercenaries deployed across the Sahel, the vast expanse below the Sahara desert.

This month's Critical Mass bike ride is starting at High Park. Unfortunately they only use Facebook to organize, but the poster is directly from them.

Kind of a bummer as it was a very minor offence and she's been making all the right noises as Transport Sec, but she's right to resign: Cabinet members should be above this kind of thing. Can't have a return to the corruption of the Conservatives

A UN Security Council report has found that since the Taliban resumed ruling Afghanistan in 2021, the country has returned to being a shelter for terrorist organizations, increasing the chances of conflict on the Afghanistan-Iran border

The al-Qaida terrorist organization is having a resurgence in Afghanistan under the ruling Taliban, setting up eight new training camps alongside five madrasas, Islamic educational institutions, around the country, a report from the UN Security Council in late January has revealed.

Welcome, wrestlefriends, to SCZ's first ever "Fantasy Booking Friday"!

Hangman Edition

Each Friday, we'll be presenting a scenario for a fictional wrestling storyline or premium live event, and it's up to you, dear wrestlefriend, to play armchair booker and decide how you would make it happen. Your submissions can be as straight forward, or as goofy as you like, the only rule is: keep it in the realm of wrestling (Death Battle already booked Goku vs Superman).

This week's scenario:

The year is 1995, Vince McMahon and Ted Turner have (mostly) set their differences aside to put on a one-time WCW vs WWF pay per view. However, there are caveats: Vince refuses to let any of his "New Generation" wrestle against Hulk Hogan, and neither promotion can make the other look weak by dominating the card.

Just to be clear, this is not a contest, there are no prizes to be one. This is simply a space for fantasy booking and the discussion that comes with that. Also, this is fantasy booking, you're allowed to misremember some historical details. No one's going to cancel you if you can't completely recall which wrestler was working for which company 3 decades ago.

I'm in need of a little help. I wasn't able to successfully budget for my bus pass this month. So I just need the $25 to cover that. With my wrist still broken, I can't ride my bike. So that at least saves me the hour plus walk home at the end of the day. The buses don't run at 2 and 3:00 in the morning when I go in to work, but it's still saves me about 4 miles a day.

The good news is, to anyone who's been paying attention to my posts over time, as of December I will finally be caught up on my rent, no longer have to pay late fees every month, and only have to come up with $175 each week to put towards rent. That's entirely reasonable, even though it's about 50% of my take-home. I've just been behind for so long, paying so many late fees, that I've just not been able to catch up no matter what. I finally caught a break because my complex offered a $300 renewal credit towards December. So I should need a lot less help here very soon, I hope. That will help my mental health immensely as well.

PayPal is sgriffith0891 at geemail.com

I do have CashApp, but it's overdrawn and the way the bus depot runs the transaction, it doesn't really like to spend the money that way. My PayPal is positive, so that should work. The bus depot must process it as an ATM transaction or something, which is strange, but whatever.

Thank you all so much for all the help you've given me in the past! I'm really excited to hopefully be able to help others here soon. I won't have a lot of extra money, but I will finally be above water, be able to pay all my bills, and maybe even have money left over to buy things that I need!

I've loved this song since I heard it on American Dad! It took me an embarrassing number of views to realize that the older and younger couple are supposed to be the same people, though. (Knowing Portuguese might have helped.)

Original Title: TIL the Nuremberg Trials executioner lied to the US Military about his prior experience. He botched a number of hangings prior to Nuremberg. The Nuremberg criminals had their faces battered bloody against the too-small trapdoor and were hung from short ropes, with many taking over 10 minutes to die.
