The ironic effect of Hexbear has been to significantly reduce my time on the Internet, because almost everywhere else seems so shitty by comparison.

Sometimes I try to go to reddit to talk about my special interests but holy shit everyone there is so fucking dumb. It's not even politics sometimes, just terminal reddit brain and absolutely 0 media literacy. Hexbear is also the only "social media" site I've been a part of that isn't just constantly enshittified.

Y'all keep me sane. I love this place so much. It's so nice to not have to deal with shitty fascist white racist liberal genocide apologists.

Good post, I can't explain how much I love this place. Anywhere else on the internet it takes such little time until you come across some liberal/fascist take that tries to push the Overton window all the way to the Third Reich, this is a safe haven I can't do without anymore. Lemmy being a great platform also contributes a lot, but its all of you that make it what it could never be otherwise. I'm gonna really miss you people if this site gets

This is my only social networking anything. I like it here most of the time, and yes, it does feel free of the increasingly enshittified (and chuddified) state of Reddit and related monopolies that have swallowed up pretty much all populated forums that used to exist.

Sometimes I'll still log into Facebook. I have the Purity add-on, which deletes all the unwanted bullshit, and I still feel myself get yet more liberal with all the genetic "we just need to vote harder" posts I'm seeing. Also there's no content warning for dead animal pics (non vegans here: we really appreciate it).

Lots of terrible mod decisions done by liberals and fascists have driven me off of social media. The time I got a ban for arguing with a guy who was posting anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim stuff on was the last straw for me there.

it honestly seems like everyone on those sites is completely insufferable and every post is designed in some CIA laboratory to make me irrationally angry

When you're immersed in that sort of background radiation of liberalism and chuddery you develop a resistance to it, or even the ability to tune it out. So when you go on Hexbear for a long while and your resistances to that sort of thing drop, if you try and go back on Reddit or Twitter or whatever, the little dogwhistles everywhere very quickly get to you and drive you up the wall. To the people on those sites it looks like you're totally overreacting to certain sentences or phrases or words, but you're now educated enough about these sorts of quirks that they instantly raise your blood pressure. I genuinely, physically roll my eyes whenever I see a word like "authoritarian" or "totalitarian" or "regime" now because, thanks to e.g. the Masses, Elites, and Rebels essay, I know what these libs are doing, whereas before, I could just tune it out and keep going. I know that these people are smug nationalist Americans who denounce any attempt to break free from US hegemony, rather than merely a dude harmlessly expressing their opinion on the internet.
