The only cutting edge culture I'm in is the one where you cut off edging because it violates the volcel pledge

Luke, 22, is a land of contrasts.

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 29 points 2 months ago (4 children)

Fuck Cumtown. Shit is garbage.

[–] LanyrdSkynrd@hexbear.net 29 points 2 months ago

Cumtown was on a list of leftists podcasts I saw before I'd ever heard of it. I got some clips of it in my YouTube feed and it was all racial jokes and jokes where the punchline is someone is gay.

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 24 points 2 months ago

"Being gay is a punchline" should have ended in the 90s. debord-tired

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 23 points 2 months ago

You're completely correct.

[–] TheDoctor@hexbear.net 16 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Stav’s standup is good. No idea why the podcast was the way it was. I’ve heard people say the podcast was unfunny on purpose, but that will never convince me it was good. I just don’t get it.

No idea why the podcast was the way it was.

Nick's self destructive/self sabotage tendencies.

I think they did have some incredibly funny bits. Liberal elmo (CW racism) and the CIA recruitment ad (CW CSA discussion) are just pure gold and did not punch down at all. The same obviously can't be said for the vast majority of the podcast, since most of the time they were making insensitive and inflammatory jokes just with the purpose of being on the edge of what could be acceptable. That caused a lot of harm and it still affects the culture of the online left in a negative way. Was it worth it? Probably not. Did Nick Mullen go on Fox Red Eye and bully John Bolton (CW: Fox, racism, Nick Mullen, misogyny)? Yeah, he did do that. I don't have anything else to say.

Fair play. This should narrow down the interested parties to only those he should take a REAL interest in. Unless some Habsburg descendant with a jaw shaped like a tennis ball and a brain stem shaped like a question mark misinterprets the "looking for my queen" bit, but then we should at least get a romantic comedy out of it.

[–] Comp4@hexbear.net 41 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I think an approach like this is far better than trying to appeal to as many people as possible. I had "FUCK [local] right-wing party" in my profile and that I’m left-wing/ Pro BLM, and I talked with my now-partner about politics and Palestine five sentences into our first convo.

To imagine, I could have dated a liberal! cringe

[–] miz@hexbear.net 25 points 2 months ago

[on a blind date] You listen to a lot of NPR? That's cool, I hear the tiny desk concert things are pretty good. What do I listen to? Well there's this thing called Cum Town and today I caught an extended segment where an adolescent Ben Shapiro gets his prepubescent testicles crushed inside the ass of child sex predator Mr. Feeny from Boy Meets World and that's the backstory to why Ben Shapiro's voice is so shrill in the voiceovers for those Nissan car commercials. Wait, why are you leaving? I thought this was going well?

Don't understand the uncalled insult to Taylor Swift.

[–] SuperZutsuki@hexbear.net 59 points 2 months ago

Taylor Swift is a billionaire who takes 30 minute private jet flights to avoid being in traffic. Fuck her.

[–] JoeByeThen@hexbear.net 52 points 2 months ago (1 children)

ACAB includes the billionaires that hold their leashes.

[–] Alisu@hexbear.net 23 points 2 months ago

All billionaires are bastards

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 35 points 2 months ago

Probably just trying to keep the swifties off his tail.

[–] HamManBad@hexbear.net 13 points 2 months ago

It's not wrong but it's oddly specific

[–] EllenKelly@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago

Telling somedude whining about guitar bands are dead that I know several women who learnt to play because of Taylor Swift and then leaving the room

I dont trust a guy who leads with 'I dont like this woman', and I dont even care for Swift or her music

WSB split off from Socialist Alternative; I did not follow and later left Socialist Alternative (which I wrote about here). Unfortunately I think that new WSB's central idea - that the moment is ripe for a cross-union mass membership organization of workers that's not a communist party - is incorrect. They are currently campaigning for Jill Stein and Kshama says that a successful "spoiler" vote for Stein that resulted in a Trump win would lead to the creation of a major third party, which would be great if it were true but it's not. Unfortunately their deviation from SAlt has only made them worse; they still share SAlt's bad theory on Israel and presumably some of the leadership culture.

But it was a nice moment and although we made some mistakes with the unionization work at Amazon KCVG it was still a good thing overall.

[–] Barx@hexbear.net 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Ah, it was an RIP for your involvement. I thought you meant WSB was going defunct or something.

Can confirm that SAlt is too Trot. And known for doing cultish things like cutting you off socially if you leave. People you considered friends abruptly never talk to you again, that kind of thing.

Glad to hear KCVG things went okay. While I was dubious due to the SAlt connection I got a union to throw money their way instead of at Democrat electoralism.

[–] macerated_baby_presidents@hexbear.net 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

WSB will now be supported by "Revolutionary Workers", which has less money and people than mainline SAlt, so we'll see if it survives. RW is mostly from the Seattle SAlt chapter. Luckily I didn't make any real friends in the org - I was "all business" - so I don't know about getting cut off or whatever. Thanks for supporting KCVG.

I don't keep up with celebrity news, any idea why "fuck Taylor swift" in particular?

[–] 12022081631@hexbear.net 45 points 2 months ago (1 children)

might be something to do with her thirty jets + permanent immolation gasoline shield that protects her from low level cretins

if its not the eco thing or the general bourgeoisie thing, its might be her weird appropriation (she sang for the first half of her career with a fake accent) when her dad got her the job

or maybe its the hoisting up of feminism to glorify/normalize bourgeois lifestyles and attitudes

or maybe he hates her music

ME PERSONALLY, a Universal Music Group hyperfan, I hate her for her BETRAYAL of the trusted name + institution

[–] AmarkuntheGatherer@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 2 months ago

Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I knew she was bourgeois, but didn't expect this level of conduct.

Her carbon footprint is huge and the constant commentary gets annoying. I also don't like her music tho
