Yes I am a skinny "quirked up" white boy with long hair who grew up in sheltered white suburbia and smokes too much weed. Yes I am a college student who was introduced to communism online and rapidly became radicalized.

It's such perfect ammo and it is ruining me

you need to embrace it, it's the only way, pick up a guitar.

[–] sharkfucker420@hexbear.net 34 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I play bass but started with an electric 6 string. The first music I learned was metal

[–] Angel@hexbear.net 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

6-string and bass don't have to be mutually exclusive, and in my case, they weren't.

[–] frauddogg@hexbear.net 8 points 5 days ago

hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

That is a gorgeous bass

[–] DivineChaos100@hexbear.net 15 points 5 days ago

You are too powerful and society has attempted to hem in your strength by dehumanising you, making you feel ashamed, and convincing you that you are nothing more than a stereotype. If you weren't a threat to them, they never would have bothered doing this in the first place.

Give that stereotype your hardest goddamn "Yes and..." and proudly say "Yes I fit the stereotype and I'm much more than that as well; if you are threatened by my stereotypicality, you can't handle me at my full humanity."

I would challenge you and say that your issues is less being a stereotype and more that you are insecure and feel like your personality or feelings are somehow less valid because you fall into a "type". Do you not like having long hair? Do you not like smoking weed? If you like those things and feel like these are good representations of your truest self...I'd focus on surrounding yourself with people who embrace you for these aspects.

I used to be super insecure when people started labeling me as a "himbo" because I had this idea in my head that cynical snark was a more valid or unique personality type. Trust me: nothing worse or unattractive than being a fake person. Embrace being the quirky long haired pothead child of suburbia if that's who you are. You are valid comrade!

[–] PropagandaIsUseless@hexbear.net 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

To add in, I only have positive associations toward "himbo", and now I realize a lot of the context is negative, and I don't want to use it anymore because it is seen as insulting, and often just is insulting.

I really appreciate those kinds of people, who I see as strong, confident, and sweet. I have always rejected the the of those people being "dumb".

When you live a life seeing physically intimidating people as oppressive, it's a great comfort to meet larger people who are kind.

[–] TrueStalinistPatriot@hexbear.net 13 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Almost same but I live in a flat I don't smoke weed and I became a communist because I learned about Cuba wanted to know more and realized how much of communist "ideology" correlates with the views I already established on my own (for example I somehow managed to recreate the labour theory of value by reason and observation)

[–] Xiisadaddy@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 5 days ago

If you take the time to actually think about it and have any real world experience as a working class laborer its pretty much common sense to be leftist of some kind. "i make the thing but when we sell the thing this dumbass gets all the profit thats stupid" is a very easy position to come to. Its why the rich spend so much money propagandizing and turning the masses into a freakish reactionary horde. If they didnt theyd be overthrown pretty quick. The real accomplishment is having the soundness of mind to not be led astray by literally every piece of media ever made in the west. Its also why jobs that actually produce a surplus of labor value in a really obvious way tend to be looked down on in western society. Like "Burger flippers" produce a shit ton more value with their labor then some office worker. Yet theyre looked down on and office workers are considered to have a "respectable" job.

In my experience that Roald Dahl poem about how a person with kind thoughts can never be ugly is the truest thing I've ever known. I put a huge premium on ways to calm my judgements up to and including swallowing my pride and doing roleplay with my inner child to redefine my narratives.

Take one day a week where you can take yourself less seriously so you can laugh and thank the magic rectangle for the providence to deliver you from cringe by showing you communism. If you can't "separate the art from the artist" then explore that. Do you have a community of people who rely on you to win the day so you have to shoulder the burden? Or perhaps have you grown really attached who you perceive yourself to be in relation to others - are you in love with your narrative? Others might be full court pressed by your responsibilities which sucks and we should work together to make society better so these people have a world worth persisting for.

While we have fun with words like radicalized, it's important to remember that it's liberal terminology, designed more to obfuscate and deride than to accuratelt describe. Like "terrorist", is mainly functions as a thought terminating cliche, a stereotype that provides an easy excuse not to engage with what someone actually wants and why they actually want it. Because if you look at it in those terms, it becomes clear who's actually doing the bulk of the terrorizing to who. So liberals have to abstract everything away into neat little mental categories to avoid dealing with this reality. But they're the ones who want to kill people, stick their heads in the ground and burn the world, while we're the ones who want to save it. They're the radical terrorists by any honest accounting, and the way they talk about the "radicalization" of people turning away from liberalism is as if they're talking about the Rage virus. "Oh Bill got radicalized, we had to put him down." When in reality, in the zombie metaphor, those of us born comfortable in the core are mostly all molded into zombies by default, and sometimes we get lucky enough to be helped into sentience by patient living people.

But anyway, if we put aside the specific liberal terminology, a more neutral description of your "rapidly becoming radicalized" might sound something like "was able to get to the root of the omnicrisis very quickly once given the tools." It's not something that happened to you, it's something you figured out.
