came very close to winning

lost by 15,000,000 votes

Okay

Must be the same math Paul Krugman uses to determine inflation isn’t a problem.

[–] Thordros@hexbear.net 19 points 6 months ago (1 children)

"If you simply only count ~~white~~ REAL voters, the Democrats... ate shit so hard they made Walter Mondale look like a rocket surgeon. Making them the victor!"

  • Paul "Wimp Lo" Krugman
[–] PKMKII@hexbear.net 14 points 6 months ago

Libs mostly seem to be pointing to “if only the college-educated voters were the ones that counted”

[–] MemesAreTheory@hexbear.net 18 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (2 children)

At the final count, Harris only lost the popular vote by about 2.5 million. She received 6 million less votes than the previous election, but of course thanks to our bull shit system none of that really matters because 7 states get to decide our entire election.

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 16 points 6 months ago (1 children)

You're right. She actually got 15 million fewer votes than Biden iirc

[–] MemesAreTheory@hexbear.net 5 points 6 months ago

That was the initial count. As I said I'm my comment, final count has her at about 6.5 million less

[–] BlueMagaChud@hexbear.net 4 points 6 months ago (1 children)

who's Bill Shit? is that the Poopsmith's real name?

[–] MemesAreTheory@hexbear.net 3 points 6 months ago

ppb-gigachad this is Bill shit

[–] huf@hexbear.net 6 points 6 months ago

they may have lost the votes, but they won the moral battle, so it's more of a draw really

** Loses presidency and congress, performs noticeably worse in areas dems had previously dominated **

"We were pretty close though, better stick with the same strategy."

Honestly though, I could absolutely see the democrats winning in 2028 purely from the sort of incumbent burnout we get in this country.

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 17 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I think the only reason they have gotten this far is knowing how much the carrot and stick effect helps them. Trump steps in now with the the ridiculous tariffs, 4 years of that will make people beg for Democrat incompetence again.

I've been thinking about this lately. The average American probably fucking hates America without realizing it because they've been propagandized on American exceptionalism their whole lives. So instead they just think they're deeply unsatisfied with whatever the current leadership is. No, it couldn't possibly be that our great country is a top to bottom failure that can't be reformed, we just need someone to make better choices for us. So it'll just bounce back and forth from either party forever with Americans getting more pissed off every 4 years until, I don't know, nothing probably.

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 13 points 6 months ago

This is a direct result of winning the cold war. All alternatives to the status quo are unthinkable, so constant decline into a neoliberal dystopia is the only possible future. Americans can't imagine a better world, they're allergic to structural change.

[–] miz@hexbear.net 11 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

someone posted a meme version of dennis sipping a coffee on the couch explaining how america goes back and forth back and forth until it just sort of ends and I wish I had saved it rn

We were so close to barely winning that all we need is a bit of luck next time. We should change nothing. Definitely don't run on healthcare, reform people love their healthcare insurance. I am a professional consultant.

[–] OprahsedCreature@lemmy.ml 24 points 6 months ago (1 children)

For what this asshole probably gets paid, I'd be a professional consultant too, and I'm most assuredly just as qualified.

[–] huf@hexbear.net 16 points 6 months ago

[–] DragonBallZinn@hexbear.net 42 points 6 months ago (2 children)

broaden the coalition

Have you tried appealing to the non-voters who were interested in Bernie?

[–] AmericaDelendaEst@hexbear.net 30 points 6 months ago

They've tried nothing and they're all out of ideas

[–] BlueMagaChud@hexbear.net 6 points 6 months ago

hell no, disgusting, we're going to continue the search for the billions of never-trump republicans that must surely exist somewhere we just have to believe they exist and they will

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 28 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Is there a term for using the concept of intelligence as a shovel to dig yourself ever deeper into stupid holes? I know "too clever by half" exists, but I don't feel like that quite applies to the Democratic party

[–] FnordPrefect@hexbear.net 16 points 6 months ago

I like 'irrationally rational' for people who will use sophistry and bad-faith use of statistics to lie to themselves/others

[–] Cammy@hexbear.net 25 points 6 months ago (2 children)

Lol they lost but don't need to change anything. Good strategy. Surely the environment will become more favorable in four years

[–] Real_User@hexbear.net 17 points 6 months ago

The environment is a thing that just sort of exists, and there's simply no way for them to control whether or not it's favorable either.

Yeah, Kamala came shockingly close, she only lost both the popular and electoral vote (making her worse than Hillary), and even though Biden got around 16 million votes more than Hillary did in 2016 while she got 15 million less, clearly she was doing really well.

(Hey, is this the same Eric Levitz from the other post someone made about insurers changing their plans to pay less for anesthesia?)

[–] Dessa@hexbear.net 20 points 6 months ago

"No, it's the children who are wrong!"

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 19 points 6 months ago

Let's keep doing the same thing forever and pretending like maybe next time it'll be different! That's how you can tell America is the greatest country on earth! They just keep doing the exact same thing repeatedly forever and expecting a new outcome! amerikkka-clap

[–] miz@hexbear.net 19 points 6 months ago

I sincerely wish I got paid to be this dumb and stubborn. It sounds like a sweet gig and would mesh well with my natural talents.
