The other day a dude was using his phone on speaker in the gym. Just sat there on the machine casually having a conversation on the phone and not doing a whole lot of working out.

I asked him if he could use the phone normally and made the "hand to face" gesture and he just mumbled a "yeah" and took it off speaker.

Now if he had considered my request outlandish, presumably there would have been a little friction in this exchange? But no....he knew exactly what he was doing, why it was annoying, and immediately how to remedy it.

Why the fuck are people using speakerphone instead of the God damn normal speaker to have their conversations? They know it's annoying.

I like to stand really close to them and then when they give you the “what?” Look or say anything, I tell them I’m just waiting to use the phone.

This is a pet peeve of mine. If you aren’t disabled use the damn phone as a phone and use FaceTime in private.

I don’t want to hear about the latest drama your ex is involved in and who’s doing who to god knows what. I also don’t want to be in the background while you are standing in line FaceTiming someone and they comment on the person behind them on camera.

And then the people who actually use the phone as a phone but have the most obnoxiously loud one-sided conversation.

I may be slightly biased, I use public transportation and have to listen to this shit every day. I wear hearing aids so I hear everything at one which makes it even more fun.

Don’t join in, just make as much obnoxious noise as possible

Oh hell no. If I'm stuck somewhere and they are having a speaker phone conversation I comment. I did this at the doctors office and the lady told me it was a private conversation and I told here she should have it in private.

I think some people just don't realize it's rude to have a speaker phone call in a public setting. I once had a complete stranger at a restaurant ask my friends and me to be quiet because the person on the other end of the phone kept hearing us.

Are there any justifiable reasons that it's okay to be on speakerphone in public?

Had a lady scream at me because I passed her while jogging and she was "having a private conversation"... On speakerphone... On the street...

Today I was annoyed by a man in his 30-40s that was talking on his phone like he was a reality soap star with speaker on full blast in a doctor's waiting room.

Then I remembered the most absurd moment on the tram some time ago when a two teen girls were talking to a third and the one holding the phone told her friend to go sit somewhere else because they wanted to talk in private. The second girl moves and the first one proceeds to have their private talk on speaker. In a tram full of people and her friend sitting a few seats away.

People using speakerphone in public be like:

That's like those halfwits who talk into their phone and hold it like a slice of (not Neapolitan) pizza.

1. This isn't a reality show
2. You're dumb enough to be on one
3. If it's not working well, shouting won't help. You're actively impairing its noise cancelling and you'll only be more noise to it.

Use your phone like a phone for best results.

I'm convinced people forgot that our huge handheld devices are supposed to still be mobile phones that you are supposed to put against your ear when you call someone.

Pretend it's one of your homies talking to their mom and make loud, sexual moans.

Whenever I hear someone using speakerphone in public, it really annoys me. Often, I will join the conversation. When the party is subject, it’s an excellent time to remind them how fucking rude it is to use a speakerphone in public.
