Starting mid June, SUPER stoked to finally have a job that does good work. Been over 18 months since i lost my last job in the tech field, so this feels SO fucking good!

Nothing quite as exhilarating as getting paid to do meaningful, beneficial work

Good luck

What a lovely surprise, you get to do a job that can make the world better, and they get a dedicated communist shitposter as a worker

rat-salute

nice! doing good, as day to day work, hits different. hope you meet some cool people at work!

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 11 points 1 week ago

I've been in tech jobs since I was 18. This is the start of something new for me, I can deal with the low pay, im just excited to say "I can wake up and give a shit." Stoked to actually WANT to work.

[–] WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

grats dawg I hope you get to do some good work

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'll be interfacing with other homelessness orgs in the city to coordinate care plans and stuff, so its the best use of my tech/project mgmt experience i can think of!

[–] WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Is it for the Americorp thing or did you get another offer separately?

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)
[–] WizardOfLoneliness@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Ahhh cool, yeah

Hopefully you get a better paying gig at the end of it either continuing there or doing something similar

My partner told me to tell you when you're done with it, something about stretching out the tuition reimbursement/school aid stuff so they don't just apply it all at once, because it's taxed, so you can get hit with a huge lump sum tax penalty that might be better stretched out over a couple years instead. Sorry I'm dumb that's the best I understood what she told me

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So, if you dont mind asking your partner - im fortunate to not have student loans, and no interest rn in continuing education. What should I do at the end of it instead?

Thanks comrade! Hope you're hanging in there as well!

[–] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nice. So what's the scheme? A real estate investment grift where you help get funding to build housing for the homeless that has no obligation to keep its promises after a criminally short period of time? Or just the old-fashioned skim off the top?

... I kid I kid, I hope you do some good work out there and really help some people who desperately need it.

[–] LaughingLion@hexbear.net 5 points 1 week ago

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

You may wanna buy a smaller knife for the scalping. Seems hard wirh a katana. I'm sure I'll pay for itself pretty quick wirh how many extra scales you bring in

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 4 points 1 week ago

Corgi walks into the office, steeling themselves for the exciting prospects of doing meaningful social work (and getting paid!). They walk into the office and are surprised by the door being quickly shut behind them, the windows dimmed, lights low. "So Corgi are you ready to help End Homelessness?"

"Of course!" they say, "I'm ready to get to work."

"Good." As the city manager shifts in her chair the light reveals the faint outline of a poster of Mao Zedong.

"Here's the list of the most powerful landlords in the city. We've already taken legal steps to ensure the tenants will inherit the properties."

The manager unrolls a bunch of tools. Not notepads or tablets. Silencers, garottes, mysterious vials, advanced gas pistols, suicide drones, jammers, you name it.

"Enjoy your first day on the job."

(seriously congrats tho.)

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

[–] sewer_rat_420@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Good work comrade. I'm glad to know there are people with good values working at these sort of campaigns. As frustrated as I am with my own cities paltry efforts at combatting this issue this gives me hope that some boots on the ground and people in the organizations have their head on straight

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 2 points 1 week ago

It's my first venture outside the tech field, but they know how much I value ACTUALLY helping, so let's fuckin go!
