MODERATORS

On this week this niche leftist forum was first launched (its was the 24th or 25th i think) Formed from the Chapotraphouse subreddit remnants that survived the reddit ban over the calls of violence against confederate slave owners, the first admins decided to use Lemmy as its base. Originally called Chapo.chat (ChaCha) Hexbear has grown into one of the biggest instances in the lemmyverse.

In this last 5 years hexbear has survived many diffent events from numerous struggle sessions, mod clique-users conflicts, wrecker incursions from other instances and sites, this image dprk-soldier, a decent amount of fedidrama with other instances and the domain crisis, we still thrive with over 5 million comments and 375k posts.

I still continue my dictatorial rule over the general megathread for now over 4 years now, this time locked in the chapo comm so it can be more easily moderated, c/indigenous has now grown to 750 subs which im very happy plus now i take care of the empoc mega which has been pretty chill so far.

I still really enjoy the fedidrama, it fun to see all the fedilibs always thinking about hexbear despide the fact that they are on defederated instances and they can ust ignore us, we live rent free on their minds

Person who works at the grocery store and chats me up every time who Im pretty sure has a crush on me and im very sure theyre too young had been using music as a go-to conversation thing, cause I look very punk so it's a seemingly easy in. It actually puts me in an awkward place conversationally where I try to not come off as an elitist when explaining all the music im particularly into is very very underground. She showed my her Ghost shirt, and while I have heard a dong or two and don't like em, I decided it would be best just to say I've never heard a song. If im in a position where I can put on some tunes I can talk anyone's ear off about music, but for a conversation in a store it's kinda hard cause all I can really do is list bands people have never heard of and the occasional one hit wonders from the 80s who have amazing cataloges outside that hit

I definitely put waaaay too much onion in this chili i'm making. I threw in a fist sized glob of heavily caramelized onions and then i realized "wait that's half of an entire bag of onions"

[–] queermunist@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 hour ago

Sounds like you need to add more chili to your onion soup.

Feels bad, feels very bad. I once again have to walk on egg shells when discussing politics around my friends because most of them are in β€œdefend democrats at all costs” mode

Not great

USian socialists need to work "deep state" into their vocabulary. Its not to hard and applicable to most things as a replacement for capitalism, and there are known ghouls that can be used as representation. And with the Epstein shit going down, the public is pretty conspiratorially minded, maybe rightfully so.

I've seen PYM using what might be considered "aggressive" tactics, for instance protesting at the home of an executive from Boston Consulting Group(BCG).

Appetite for revolutionary activities seems to be rising, while most things are shit it still gives me some hope

oh shiiit 5 years? Kinda of wild to think about

Had a Trump supporter in my cab last night, said some shit about Trump being a peaceful president. I replied "tell that to the Iranians"

Guy turns on a dime, starts ranting about how we need to randomly bomb other countries in order to "play the game of empires". I say we shouldn't play any game that kills millions of people.

I think I genuinely caused him to BSOD when I said that Iran has every legal and moral right to pursue a nuclear weapon for deterrence reasons, because America and Israel are the most dangerous and aggressive countries on the planet and it isn't even close. After that he got totally incoherent.

The ride was only like 3 minutes so it didn't really have enough time to get out of control. I dream of someday getting a ride with a chud who crosses the line and I get to kick their ass out of my cab on the side of the highway but that hasn't happened yet.

The year is 4566 CE. Representatives from China and America meet to discuss trade and diplomacy, and mark the beginning of their discussions by ceremonially agreeing to "extend the tariff deadline." This ritual has marked every diplomatic meeting between the two civilizations, encompassing multiple states since time immemorial. Why the two countries do this is debated among scholars and historians, but the origin of the ritual is ultimately unknown.

He retired from performing 50 years ago and retired from academia 20 years ago, so don't worry no one expected you to keep track. It's still kinda sad though.

Been offline more than usual for a bit and I forgot how easy it is to be unaware of what’s going on. You can so easily get lost by the multiple distractions and completely miss what’s developing, and this is coming from someone who lives in the global south. It’s probably a lot easier for normies to be unaware of what’s going on in the world while living in the imperial core.

"The walls are closing in on the trump admin" like obviously this time feels a bit different with half his base pissed but i have almost zero doubt he'll wriggle his way out of this one

I mean think about all good and worthwhile music wasnt made by rich people, if you got money stop doing music and go be a doctor or donate your time. You dont belong here, this is not your lane.

Your art cant even hope to start until you give back to the world in a meaningful material way, not some bullshit free concert. Like give free lessons, volunteer somewhere regularly do something you pieces of shit.

Im riding such a wave right now, i finally feel like a full fledged musician and i did it all by myself. Eat the rich. You cant take this away from me you monsters

I’m sure someone way smarter than me pointed this out, but is it just me or is an underreported strategy of the elite’s class warfare on the poor is lumpenproleization?

Every job and every last penny you have? All concessions the porks hate to make. They hate hiring, they hate when their business has to expand despite it supposedly being a sign of success. But thankfully for them, they can get together and agree to be pickier and pickier when they have no choice but to hire, and more than a quarter of the population in the US is functionally unemployed (including underemployment).

In sum, 25% of the country is lumpenproletariat and I am one of them. It’s a humiliation ritual to demoralize. Like it isn’t even faceless greed, this is smug, malevolent malice porks are doing simply because they can. Lumpenproletariat have also historically been easier to redirect to fascist elements, which is good for porky as it serves to increase the loyalty of the poor.

On your recommendation I started absolute Batman and it’s been a pretty cool series so far. Thanks for the suggestion!

Youtube has been recommending me shorts from this one channel called "Breezy Politics" which is some reactionary anti-zionist clip channel. There's clips from Tucker and MTG but then there's also clips from Mehdi Hasan's recent Jubilee appearance. Just watched one where they called Mamdani an "America First" politician which I found funny.

Also from this channel I found out that Matt Gaetz has apparently joined the right-wing anti-Israel side.

Edit: Just saw Matt Gaetz talk about how Israel killed Shireen Abu-Akleh and he listed a few other Palestinian-Americans. That made me notice that they never mention Rachel Corrie, a blonde white girl, which should be right up their alley. Do they just not know about her? I don't see any reason, not even a sinister one, for why you wouldn't want to bring her up if you wanted to talk about how Israel kills Americans. They love yapping about the USS Liberty and that was decades ago, so it's not like her death was too long ago.

Edit 2: Spamming Jackson Hinkle replies with "Never forget Rachel Corrie" would probably be decent propaganda to stoke the flames among anti-zionist reactionaries. Too cynical for me though.

Dairy

Every time I make coffee my cat turns up as if I just opened a can of tuna. I usually give him a small amount of half and half as a treat. I have turned the tables though. Now, when I'm not sure if the half and half is still okay to drink, I pour a little bit into his ramekin and let him decide. Despite having no discretion or self control whatsoever, his standards are actually higher than mine. He will not drink sour milk, even if it's on the edge. He's my personal food tester now.

i know that, ackshully, lord of the rings is one big book nerd only published in its three segments at the insistence of Tolkiens publisher…

but for the sake of putting Good Boy Points on the board in terms of annual books read, i am going to count each of the three parts as one. which puts me at….two completed books this year :/

Communism is only good on paper remember folks

Democracy on the other hand while good on paper, should always chase its idealized and in fact is perfect. Nevermind that you are never truly represented in a democracy, most people tend to check out of politics because of it and it always ends in a oligarchal control tool.
