MODERATORS

I'll give mine to get the ball rolling.

There was a user that, before getting banned, declared that every single living human being alive on Earth right now should not exist because no one had the benefit of a pre-conception device on hand to somehow determine each individual's consent to exist before they started to exist.

I don't know if that take would make David Benatar blush, make David Benatar cackle with glee, or if that was posted by David Benatar himself.

There was a person who was convinced that nobody actually enjoys music or art. They said everyone is just performatively pretending to enjoy these things for some reason. Or maybe everyone is just imagining their emotional responses to music/art, like some sort of mass delusion. I don’t remember all the particulars; this was a while ago.

I still kinda wonder if that person was just a really good troll

what i have learned more than anything in my work is that it is pretty incredible how sociopaths tattle on themselves constantly

Good find.

I don't like coffee, like, at all, but that doesn't mean that other people can't derive enjoyment from coffee and that their claims of enjoyment are all lies. I'd be pretty solipsistic to believe otherwise.

I remember replying to them. This was back in the very beginning Chapo chat days. Very weird account.

I completely do not recall who said this so I can't vouch for activity or not.

But my favourite obscure hot take was during urban planning discussions and someone gave a very spirited description of how there should be absolutely no personal kitchens in apartments, so that communal canteens could be used to socially engineer the people into more virtuous cuisine choices(not primarily in terms of vegan v meat but like regional cuisines.)

Don't recall exactly the following reactions but I do think there was some revisions to the original idea after people pointed out that this would probably end up either killing people with allergies, or result in segregation based on medical conditions.

Came here to post this, they were so certain that nobody actually enjoys making their own food, they refused to acknowledge that anyone might want to make their own meals

[–] PorkrollPosadist@hexbear.net 44 points 1 week ago (4 children)

I love making food. What we need is a commune dedicated to washing my dishes. garf-troll

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 27 points 1 week ago

The Communists built a giant dishwasher to put all their dirty dishes into instead of wasting all their water like god-fearing individuals

I want to build a robot to do it for me

For sure the dude who kept making accounts with names based on Hanna Barbera cartoons who was really fucking pissed off at women enjoying pumpkin spice things. I think about them every fall now and it's right around the corner. Such a silly thing to get irrationally angry at, especially on hexbear, like you think we're going to tolerate you shitting on women because they won't fuck you?

Didn't black-mold-futures get banned for those kinds of takes? I may have misheard.

BMF just had a penchant for ragging on anarchists.

BMF

BMF is way up there in the all time leaderboard of posters. One of this site’s greatest, and we banned them. Societies inevitably fall because they don’t know what’s best for them, and yet we live in one

Comrades, are pinned posts authoritarian?

[–] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 36 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Do you remember the user, during the early Chapo chat days, that got their account banned because they kept down voting pinned/featured posts? They down voted every pinned or featured post because they didn't like them appearing on their feed. This was back when some idiots kept down voting every trans positive post. A pinned post was then made highlighting this, pointing out that users who continue to down vote anything trans positive would be banned. Then a trans positive megathread was made. They proceeded to down vote the megathread and get banned.

[–] booty@hexbear.net 31 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I remember they made a new account to discuss and dispute the ban and on that new account immediately downvoted the pinned post and got banned for it again michael-laugh

[–] ashinadash@hexbear.net 27 points 1 week ago

Absolute commitment to the bit

[–] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 24 points 1 week ago

They went down with the ship lol, really sticking to the principle of down voting any pinned thread

There was a user, like in the first 12mths of the site, who popped up at least twice (the second time with a new account) to suggest the solution to California's water problems should be a pipeline from the great lakes. And they seemed to really thought it was a good idea beyond simple trolling.

And they kept arguing back when people pointed out how that wasn't possibly legally or politically as there's treaties between the USA and Canada. That it wasn't practical in terms of cost or logistics. That it would damage the ecosystem of the great lakes. That California would be fine if they just stopped water intensive crop farming and recycled water (even before considering solar powered desalinisation).

And they weren't like a lib (or more than any of us). Their answer to things like treaties or costs was often things like "well after a socialist revolution there won't be a Canada and USA with those treaties" or "we could build this pipeline with a centrally planned economy" etc

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 22 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Even with all of that aside, pipes leak. Pipes rupture. A pipe that long has a staggering number of points of failure all the way to where it's going, and not all of them would be accidental.

California doing less bazinga shit with water like golf courses and rich asshole amusements would matter a lot, and also less almonds and alfalfa crops, but...

[–] ComradeMonotreme@hexbear.net 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Then their answer would be something like "but under communism we'll have better pipes that don't leak"

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 21 points 1 week ago

Communism is about rich assholes in California getting to keep their golf courses. marx-joker

Remember DroneRights? They seemed to be genuinely mentally ill so I don’t want to make fun of them, but right before they got banned they tried to make some argument about how reality didn’t exist, like it’s just a social construct. Wild stuff.

[–] heggs_bayer@hexbear.net 28 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It still posts cringe to this day.

Oh I do remember DroneRights. I don't want to assume DroneRights was deliberately trolling but the takes got more and more, well... "agree with DroneRights about the fundamental nature of mind and consciousness or you are posting hatespeech against DroneRights."
